As the group sorts itself into travel order, Van feels a familiar excitement, a tingling in the limbs, a sharpening of vision: a Hunt! Yet in the far corner of his mind, a quiet, sober voice asks, "Isn't this how you got sent out to perform penance?"

Van suggests Falas and Van in one sled, Siril and Mazer in the other. That way each sled has a someone with tracking skills and one person with healing skills.

Van reporting for duty. Assuming we are maxxing our firewood.

Can Van get answers as to how long it will take to get across the bay with the sleds? And also without the sleds (using them purely as firewood carriers)

Van agrees that it is fair to reimburse rentals before split. He really does think it's fair and he's worried that if he does the renting he will be broke.

Van will take advantage of Falas' Guidance and approach the theft site slowly, with head very low to the ground looking for variations in the surface of the snow that would not show up looking straight down on them; specifically looking for non-humanoid footprints. What do we know of Zan's death? I ...

Van signals surreptitiously to Siril. In sylvan,I think we should check the ground around this last theft.Even quieter,If it wasn't Zan sneaking breakfast, this is our best chance to get some idea of what we're hunting.

Van asks the serving boy how far up the coast the forest goes and what White Fang peninsula is like. Otherwise, he fills up with breakfast.

Van yawns and wishes the others goodnight. He goes to bed still dressed: needing only a coat and boots to be ready to run outside. He leaves his boots and coat handy to be donned hurriedly if needed.

Van replies to Falas,“You heard right. The innkeeper said gnome. The gnome said Elf. I suppose shape-changing can affect your identity.”

In which case the answer is "Not really, once I finish with these gentlemen." Turning to the fishermen, "By the way, how long does it take to dry these fish? How long have these been drying?"

Van chats with the fishermen trying to get their opinions about the monster as well as (openly) pumping them for information about the terrain surrounding Whitefang Bay.

Van steps between the (in his opinion) justifiably furious Zan and the approaching fishermen. Taking a conciliatory tone he says, Why did you think our comrade Zan here was here to raid your catch? Does the robber look like a fox? Have you seen it? I can see why you are protective, those are a beaut...

Van says in Sylvan “Can you change back? It might be wise under the circumstances.”
