Burnt Offerings: Thistletop Goblins

Post by Duniagdra » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:10 pm

You spend the remainder of your day continuing on and telling the tale of your exploration in the catacomb, and of the goblin uprising, and your suspicions. Tarkiah tells some of her stories of her adventures from her home, but never really goes into much more detail. You've all heard stories of the country she comes from, and it's embrace of demons and devils after the fall of Aroden, so you feel to be just something natural, a closed off safeguard, survival tactic people there must learn. Thelios gives tails of some of his encounters in his travels, and tells how he managed to help take down a Dire Worg by casting entangle while the people he was teamed up with peppered it with ranged attacks.

In all however, your trip has gone well, making good time. You eventually reach a landmark given to you in town on where Thistletop should be close. Thelios makes a search of the land ahead and soon points out a hidden passage leading into a dense thicket. There is a "path" of sorts carved out through the thicket.

There are many small humanoid footprints resembling goblin prints all traveling through this point. Thelios' indicating a patchwork of bramble and brier seemingly woven together to make something like a door.

Tuck joins Thelios and has a look himself. No doubt. This must definitely be the spot.

Out beyond the top of the thicket, you can just see the top of two towers, which confirms that this must be the place.

Vi will cast detect magic, just on general principle, and take a position somewhere toward the back of the order, but not rearguard.

For anywhere Vi would have range/area effect, she picks up nothing magical.

OUT OF CHARACTER
Disregard my comment of Tarkiah and her home about demons and devils. I confused things when there was mention of Cheliax in a pm. She is not Chelaxian.

Tuck would stay near the front this time. Being more comfortable in the woods, he will offer to scout ahead (no more then 20 feet)

Kiah, being rather adept at scouting, will take one of the lead positions, looking for unsafe terrain. Should battle break out, she can use her mount's speed to gain flanking opportunities.

With effort, Thelios and Tuck manage to work open the patchwork hatch and find what seems to be the likes of tunnels as paths cut through the thicket. The height if it is about five feet, so anyone of five feet or taller would need to enter by crouching, or cutting their way through. A good look soon reveals that cutting through would take some considerable time and may result in some injury from the thorns and spines.

Before you seems to be at least two possible directions to begin heading.

Looks as if this is going to be more sized for me then you guys. Let me take lead, try not to get too far behind.

Looking in, he realizes there two paths ahead. I am going to head left first. If we get seperated, it will be hard to find each other again. Tuck will then move in 20' to X23

As Tuck leads the way into the Thicket tunnel, with Mak following crouched (Mak is considered to be "squeezing"), they note that the immediate area is dimly lit. You know that if the daylight fades, you'll be in complete darkness. You see that what you thought was a passage, was really just a continuation of the open area, but now see that there is a path leading to the right.

Turning back towards Mak, Tuck says Lets get Vi in here. She should have some type of light magic to make sure we don't get stuck in the dark. Then we can check out this opening.

Did someone ask for some light? Vi will crouch her way into the thicket-tunnel. She is 5'9" and, therefore, not very happy about this. To make up for the inconvenience, when she casts her light spells (one on Mak and one on Tuck, in case they decide to split up), she gives the illumination an extremely feminine pinkish hue. She hopes that any goblins they encounter will mock Mak and Tuck about this...

Durmisht moves into the tunnel following Dregs with his scimitar at the ready. The scowl on his face shows his obvious dislike of the situation.

As Tuck is talking to Mak, he realizes that he was talking louder then intended hearing Vi respond. She's clearly not happy with this cramped situation and knows her spells may well be effected by her lack of freedom. Durmisht too does not seem happy, and shows it plainly on his face. Dregs on the other hand finds it all quite comfortable.

Vi opts to cast a light spell, but is deciding which one to cast it on, Mak or Tuck.

Vi will cast her spell on Mak, since she's right next to him. The light will be pink, possibly calling Mak's manhood into question.

Dregs ventures out a bit further and finds that what was thought to be three passages, turned out to be just a larger clearing of the area they are in and two passages, one going west (toward the coast) and slightly south, the other north then west (toward the coast).

Vi casts her light spell touching Mak. Suddenly his clothing takes on a soft pinkish hue and the area they are in illuminates in a pink light, bright enough to see as a torch, but making everything seem pink, or more reddish in hue. Being the focus of the spell, Mak's clothing takes on a more hot pink tone.

Mak stops in his track.
Vi, what did you do? Remove this from me at this instant He says, obviously annoyed at Vi's childish games, while they are walking into danger.
OUT OF CHARACTER
If Vi does not remove the spell she misplaced on Mak, Mak will retreat out of the Area until it has dispelled.

Fine, fine. You'd think someone with your talents and skills would be a little more secure... Vi casts light on one of her scarves, making it glow a slight blue to match its dye. This should dismiss the light spell on Mak.
OUT OF CHARACTER
Okay, I've now read the spell description for light under the PF CRB. Can't cast it on people, only objects, and can only have one light active at a time. Got it.

that's the same for 3.5, one light at a time. Mak suddenly dims as Vi uses her scarf as the focus for a new light casting, this time a blue.

For some reason, Mak thinks he heard someone say, but the color brought out your eyes so well.

I also made a mistake. From where Dregs stands, he sees that there is actually a path cleared to the west of his position. Though is seems to hook south, he feels it actually goes west. Would that change Dregs' position?

Durmisht snickers when Mak's clothes glow pink and is trying to hide a smile. He winks at Vi and gives her thumbs up and wide grin at her little joke.

Kiah, not yet willing to dismount, awaits her companions. She paid a lot of money for her horse, and would not like to lose it. Should bringing it along prove impossible, she would prefer to stay outside and keep her mount safe until her companions return. If she can squeeze her mount through, she would try that, instead.

Let me know if I should remain behind with my horse, or if you believe I can bring my horse with me into there.

If Kiah were to look into the paths cut from the thickets and bramble, she'd see that bringing her horse would not be easy in any way. Though the dampness has softened much of the thorns and spines, she knows that remaining quiet may prove to be difficult unless she devotes time to hacking at the overhead growth.
