LoF: The Carrion King; Below the Old Monastery

The wishes unleashed over the ages by two genies have warped the Pale Mountain region to keep alive both a terrible beast and a heroic protector. These wishes have subtly warped the weave of the world to put a handful of adventurers on a trail to Kelmarane. It is these adventurers who will tread the path of fate at its most treacherous juncture, and it is they who will ultimately chart the course of history.

Blinking slightly, Laron dubiously follows his long time friend.

Kroft curses again, but moves quickly to follow Ox. This can't be good.

He cautiously follows Ox to the Courtyard.

Ox makes his way back to the courtyard above, expecting everyone to follow.
Once Ox arrives he quickly surveys the courtyard, and when he feels most of his friends behind him, he turns toward them.
We missed something here... in the courtyard.. that mist thing.... gave me that very strong... Shrugging at the difficulty of explaining, he continues Please, help me search this area... he asks.

Then Ox begins to carefully search the courtyard.

Simi arrives to find Ox diligently searching the area for something. He also starts looking around, but not knowing what he's looking for makes it a little difficult.

Everyone follows Ox up the fungal encrusted stairs through the room with the bunks into the main hall and straight to the courtyard. In the courtyard, Ox begins diligently searching about the area. The wild growth of the vegetation here would seem to everyone that searching here and finding anything would be impossible, but...

an inquisitive tone, Simi asks: Ox, what is it we're looking for?
a distracted way, Ox says: I'm not sure yet. But I know it's here.

Ox then sees something and pushes through the bramble and brush. When some of you follow, you see that you're in a large nest with three melon-sized eggs. Ox doesn't even pay them any mind as he begins rummaging through the debris that makes up the nest. Soon, he smiles.

a pleased tone, Ox says: Tempest, I've found you. Ox raises a large battleaxe over his head.

The Monastery is now clear of any threats as far as you've found. You go to report to Almah the status and everyone soon takes to the task of cleaning out the monastery of the filth left behind. The guards waste no time declaring Room 15 as theirs and Almah takes possession of the library for herself. Dashki takes claim of room 12. The mercenaries take room 12. The remaining persons of this team take other sections, leaving room 18 for the six of you. Everyone takes their part working on patching holes in the roof where sleeping and eating and planning would be. Security detail is doled out by Almah and is looking for one or two to watch from the balcony window at the north end of the church. From this window, all of the landscape from here to Ketepesh can be watched.

Ox, how did you know that was there? Have you seen it before? Simi asks respectfully, not wanting to be a tester for the new axe.

Anyone know what these eggs are?

Hey guys, meet Tempest, my new toy! Ox smiles at his friends, showing them the new weapon. Just then, a perplexed look comes to his face.
Hmmm 'Tempest'... how the hell did I know it was its name...?! Was it that mist that I accidentally breathed in? Ox walks over to his friend Laron.

I had no idea Simi... Ox replies

Forgot about the eggs.

When Simi looks at the eggs, he notes with a few taps to the shell that there is some form of liquid mass inside.

I'll need a knowledge nature roll to identify.

That's pretty interesting Ox, do you trust it?

Simi activates Detect Evil, and concentrates on the Axe, then Ox. Ruling out any major changes or perhaps possession.

And what if that creature is smart enough NOT to land in our mists and use its flight advantage against us?
Perhaps we would do well to prepare a Trap for it when it lands... to catch it on the ground....
Ox says, grinning at his own deviousness.

Then we could have eggs AND meat! he grins even wider

Laron looks at the eggs and recognizes the speckled pattern right away. It's a large vulture-like bird called a geier (pronounced GYRE, rhymes with tire), a Katapeshi carrion bird well known for both its size and aggressive nature. It could be a tough creature to fight if not planned well, but there would only be one judging from the nest and the fact that they don't nest in pairs. It could also be days before it returns.

Kroft volunteers to take a watch on the Balcony, expecially given the discovery of the eggs. I might be able to help set up a trap or possibly an alarm should the creature return.

Alright... Laron says, thinking. No real need to worry. There should only be one bird, a large one though. I could possibly recognise it if it came back, so I'll take a high point to keep my watch on.

I should think so. Laron says after a moment's thought. It will fight us all to keep it's nest safe, so as long as we stay away from there, we might be fine. Of course, if we do do something to annoy it then it's quite capable of tearing us to shreds. He strokes Katja fondly. I suppose you could just think about something about five or six times as big as Katja and you'll be close enough to the truth.
