LoF: The Carrion King; Day Four

The wishes unleashed over the ages by two genies have warped the Pale Mountain region to keep alive both a terrible beast and a heroic protector. These wishes have subtly warped the weave of the world to put a handful of adventurers on a trail to Kelmarane. It is these adventurers who will tread the path of fate at its most treacherous juncture, and it is they who will ultimately chart the course of history.

Laron nods a greeting to Oxvard before moving over to the Geier. He calls Katja down to his shoulder and checks over the creature to see if he remembers anything else.

 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
Mostly checking to see if they roam in flocks, and whether they are edible.

Laron recalls that geier (Pro Gyer) travel alone unless nesting, in which case they might be with hatchlings or young. Geier are no different that vultures other than their size. They have immunity to disease due to their diet, but nothing more.

Erin looks at the bird..."it's huge... and it's also sad that we had to kill it..."
she moves away from the bird and finds a quiet place along the wall to sit and wait.

So, Laron. Can we expect another one, or are we able to get back to our rest?

I think we'll be safe. Laron replies, stepping up from the corpse. We might as well get some rest, a bird this size will likely take a while to properly cook anyway.

That would certainly be most unfortunate. Simi says as he walks over to find a bit of shade to relax in.

After a while, the two drivers, Hadrod and his wife Hadrah, return with a set of knives and some sheets of leather.
All these dammed feathers. Wonder what can be made from them. Hadrah says to her husband. He merely raises an eyebrow.
The two get to roping the dead bird when Hadrod looks back and finds something missing. With a whistle Rombard comes trotting in with his small cart. The couple waste no time in gutting the bird. Pulling out the liver, kidney, heart, and stomach and laying them on a leather sheet, Hadrod promptly pulls the ends of the leather and then ties it shut, tight. The then set to cutting out whole lengths of muscle from the bird's chest. The meat is very lean. Indeed, this will make for good eating a very long time.
Do you think we have enough seasonings to cure the meat with? Hadrod asks.
Plenty I think. Don't forget the innards neither. You always forget the innards. His wife replies.
With this all taken care of, the group of you return to doing your own thing, as does everyone else. The mercs set to patrolling the perimeter with one or two of you joining the patrol to kill time.
Evening falls and Simi finds himself being summoned by Almah. She's in need of your advice on something. Garavel leaves expecting that your following him. A moment later you rise and follow. He's leading you into her chambers, the old ruined library. There's a table set out there with two chairs. Garavel shows you to a chair and then goes to the tent in the middle of the room. You see that the guards are stationed at each corner of the room on the balcony above. The repairs seem to be holding. Garavel leaves after speaking into the opening of the tent and you're alone, sort of.

The flap opens and Almah comes out. She sits at the table.
I wish for a reading. I must know what the stars have laid ahead of me. Will you do this?

Uh, I'm sorry? Simi asks, confused. I dont understand. I would do anything in my ability to help you retake this city, but I dont know anything about reading the stars unfortunately. Perhaps Oxvard could work some divination for you?

You don't know astrology? It's not different from religion. Surely you know something from your faith that you can connect to astrology.

I could probably tell you the names of some of the constellations, but that's about it I'm afraid. I'm not a scholar ma'am, I'm a sword and shield, pledged in service to Abadar. I'm sorry to say that astrology was not a part of my training. I would not lie to you, or steer you on an untrue path.

Seeming not at all please by the rejection, Fine. Then what do you know of this Eli person? I'm not feeling her reliable enough, but if you feel she is capable, then send her to me. You may leave me now.

Thoroughly confused, Simi gets up from his chair as Almah goes back in her tent. As he leaves the library he shrugs his shoulders, not knowing any way he could've helped her and wanders in search of Eli.

After finding her, he says Eli, how's things... Uh, look, Almah is in a mood and looking to the stars for help, or something. She thought I would be able to read something from astrology, but that is not my strong suit or something i know anything about really. She asked me to find you and send you to her, maybe you can Divine something for her. I'll walk you over there if you like.

Erin stands up and starts wandering around the camp, observing and watching the camp life.
She excercises her climbing skills and soon she looks from a higher point down at the camp...

She thinks of her wayfinder and how it helped a little with the peyrton monster. She studys the wayfinder carefully. It's actually the first time she really looks at it.
She remembers her task from the society (that gave her the wayfinder) and writes a short report and sketches how she remembers the monster and maps of the locations that she has visited. She makes some additional notes about the monestary and the monsters found and even puts in some kind words about Almah and also about her party members.

Spoiler: show
Erin didn't speak of this but she would tell her companions this information if they ask what she is doing.
sourcebook: page 10, Legends of Fire Player Guide: Your first assignment is to accompany Garavel’s group to Kelmarane—the Pathfinder Society has heard rumors of several ancient structures in the area, including a ruined monastery once dedicated to Sarenrae, and would like to learn more about them. —the Pathfinder Society has heard rumors of several ancient structures in the area, including a ruined monastery once dedicated to Sarenrae, and would like to learn more about them. Even more pressing is the mystery of what brought about Kelmarane’s ruin in the first place—reports of which are vague at best. If you can determine the cause of the village’s abandonment so many years ago, you’re sure the Society would be impressed.
Erin also knows about ioun stones since this is knowledge that she has learned in her initiation of becoming a pathfinder society member. (sourcebook: "seeker of knowledge")

Kroft can also be found walking restlessly around camp. He can't quite settle his mind enough to sleep, so he pulls out his everburning torch and does some extra poking around on the upper level of the ruined monastary. He does avoid those areas where folk have made quarters, but there are several other areas into which he can wander without disturbing others. He quietly looks through piles of rubble and debris and inspects unsearched corners. He does not expect to find anything, but at least his hands are busy.

Between stops, his mind goes back to that woeful night his hometown died. He tries to recall any details of the great tragedy, but all he seems to remember is his father's wracking sobs turning into somber, blank-faced depression. Finding nothing new in that line of thinking, he tries to go further back. His mother is an even deeper mystery to him. All he knows is that she was likely some kind of adventurer, since she had a suit of fine leather armor -- the only item of hers he still owns. He wonders if she ever visited this once-holy place. Again, his memory is devoid of any details.

He continues wandering the ruins, passing beneath Erin's perch without seeming to notice her....

As Erin and Kroft wander about, they find themselves at some point passing Dashki's "quarters". Odd that he would choose such confined space, but passing soon reveals his reasons. You each see him busy at work scraping off the little bits of gold relief that still remains in the carvings on the walls. Far too much work for such little return, but it keeps him busy I suppose.
