LoF: The Carrion King; Day Six - Taking Back Kelmarane

The wishes unleashed over the ages by two genies have warped the Pale Mountain region to keep alive both a terrible beast and a heroic protector. These wishes have subtly warped the weave of the world to put a handful of adventurers on a trail to Kelmarane. It is these adventurers who will tread the path of fate at its most treacherous juncture, and it is they who will ultimately chart the course of history.

Ox is correct. We need to get some information on the current state of building, and potentially of the remaining enemy. A couple of us could see if we can sneak in and see what we can learn, then we would know better how to take them on. I'm willing to scout ahead. Anyone able to join me?

Eli looks over at Croft i'll join if there are no other takers, it'd probabley be worth bringing anyone else who's not scouting ahead at least to the edge of the town. That way if something goes wrong the scouts can let the rest know easily. Or at least have somewhere to fall back to.

After a while, Katja returns and Laron spends a few moments in quiet contemplation as he sorts out her messages.

Right. The east and west sides are both heavily guarded with a couple dozen armed people on each. The north side has a guard of six on the bridge, each with some heavy duty equipment. It seems the south would be the best approach, there are only four down there. Although there is another creature down near the cemetary. I can't quite understand what Katja was relaying to me it, but it almost seemed like a werewolf. He thanks Katja by stroking her plumage. It would seem that the obvious choice would be to take the southern entrance, if we could avoid this werewolf. I'd definitely advise to steer clear of the east and west, but the north looks almost viable as well. He then drops his voice to a whisper meant just for his companions. “If we want to get rid of our supposed allies, this might be a good time to give them some false information...”

I'm not liking this heavy equipment. What is this heavy equipment?

As far as we know, there are no werewolf in this region, but ruin cemetery never a good thing.
Hargk is clearly not happy about this tactic.

Erin, using her charmes diplomatic skill diplomacy to convince gnolls (1d20+7=21)
"Hargk... your tribe is the strongest here, you would not allow those foolish tribes to think they are stronger then your tribe! if you take them we will turn around south and make sure they don't get behind."

Wait Ox says, holding his hand, nodding his thanks to Laron's Intel.
With our Gnoll allies, we are also 12. With our superior tactics and strength, we could take on one of the heavily guarded position and do as much damage as we can, then retreat. There are still too many enemies around to get rid of them all in one swoop. We should do a big hit & run. If those big equipment are siege engines, we don't want to go against those just now. If that is a were-creature at the south gate, we might need more preparations to take it on.

So I propose we do take west side. Attack them from a distance, in the hopes of drawing them toward us, while our bows whittle them down. We could take cover in the Ruins, coming from here [Ox indicates the western side on the map - red arrow]. Then we can retreat before reinforcements arrives. What think you? he asks of his companions.

That's not a bad ides, but either way, its not going to take long before the North/South groups run around to the west side of the Market. Especially if they raise an alarm. which is likely. That said, it's probably better to not divide our forces.

Scratching an itch in a place you'd rather he not, Hargk comments, This plan sounds good. Full frontal attack. We match them one to one. They would have a slight advantage though. As you see, this dark line were your Ox shows, this is a ridge. Not very high, but we would struggle some to get up there. If they have ranged weapons, they will have slight advantage, but I think not by much. I think this can work.

Only if we can see in the dark and they cannot. Kroft makes a half-chuckle. Unfortunately, I don't see much of anything in the dark. Hargk, you're people can see well at night, right?

So either we wait for the night, which will give us cover until we arrive nearby, or we do it now, not knowing if our approach will be seen. We're a large group to be moving in town unnoticed during the Day. We could also go at night, but from the East side... No ridge on that side... We need to decide.

Erin isn't confident that attacking by night is the best way to go so she waits until she sees what the other people vote.

Laron shakes his head. Your plan is a good one Ox, but I know I would much rather attack in the daylight. Night-time would be better for our sneaks, but both Katja and I will be blind and we will lose our aerial reconnaisance.

Don't you spell casters have ways to make light at a distance? If so, we could attack from the darkness, into a lighted area...! Os suggests.

Eki shakes her head.
I have no light casting spells prepared, i could say the appropriate benedictions next time i pray but i fear that would be to late.
After a moment of thoughtfull contemplation she adds...
What about flames? We could sneak into position in the dark with Big H and his gnolls scouting ahead to make sure nothing is waiting for us. we'll use a hooded lantern to make sure we aren't seen and keep it as closed as possible. Once we get their we can light some arrows from the lantern and open fire. our first shots won't be able to see but we should be able to make out the market even in the dark. Chances are that some of the arrows will land close and then we can focus on using the lights to hit the guards. It'll throw the whole defence into confusion if we do it right and we can melt away before they bring up reinforcements.
For a moment she looks a little unsure of herself.
Did Katje say she saw Gnolls or people at the gate? People would need to have their own torches for the night watch, that would save us bothering with flame arrows at all if they are all lit up.

I vote we go in tonight from the east.
