LoF: The Carrion King; Day Six - Taking Back Kelmarane

Seeing that Ox is intent on interrogating Kardswann by bringing him too, Haleen intervenes. “I do understand your need to understand, but Kardswann is much too dangerous to risk reviving. I truly doubt we have anything that would hold him for long. If you're seriously intent in getting what you can from him, then you best be well prepared to attack him should he even flinch. I know him. I've been here long enough to know that he'll not give you the answers you seek. Especially if he's under control of something he claims to be more powerful than he. I'm sure there's something somewhere, possibly at that very church, that would grant enough of the information you seek without putting anyone at risk. He'll fight till slain, even if bound.”

“Some nice stuff here”she says to Kroft as he starts helping her searching.
Erin takes the exceptional chainmail and the dagger from the closet and tries to fit it on. “How do i look?”she asks him. “Finders keepers...”she laughs... and smiles at Kroft.
She keeps the two items and starts gathering the other items all together. “Kroft, maybe we should gather all the stuff in the central hall?” she suggests. “It is too much to carry all at once.”

On his question about what happened to Ox she replies “yeah, it worries me a little, but i guess that not all possessed people are evil.”

Simi retrieves his rope, and silently heads outside. He stands solemnly outside the market, looking to the sky. His hand resting on his fathers sword that's hanging from his belt.

After a moment, he looks about, wondering what will happen next.

Kroft returns Erin's smile. A little embarasment shows on his face, making him look closer to his actual young age. “Just take out a few links in the waist -- it'll be a perfect fit.” He laughs a little at the situation. Then, he gets back to the task at hand. “Let's just keep an eye on Ox and friends. OK?” He lends his hands to the hauling of the goods, helping gather everything in the main hall.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    Pertaining to Erin and Kroft

When Erin tries to fit the chainmail, she finds that it's just one size too big, but can easily be altered to fit, at a cost or barter. Maybe even one of the merchants in the market might be swayed to do it for less.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    For the group.

If any of you, or all of you, attempt to move the apparatus that the harpy was tinkering with, you find the task impossible. In all, it weighs over nine hundred pounds. In parts, dismantlement will prove tedious and time consuming and the risk of breakage is high, thus making any value to this device nil should enough of it be broken.

As Dashki recognises Katja, Laron will grin ruefully to himself and ruffle his feathers through the mindlink. Satisfied that Dashki got back safely, Katja will circle the area, looking for other items of interest until he sees the mercenarys head back to the city.

Erin laughs... “"Don't look so embarrased Kroft, ... a few adjustments here and there and it looks spiffy!..."”
She removes the armor “"i'll find someone to adjust it for me"” she stuffs the chainmail in here backpack.
while she packs the chainmail in her backpack she continues to talk.“"I'm glad this battle is over. I don't like harpys. They sound sooooo nice... and are so lethal."”
She shivers... “"What do you think of that woman? haalin? hallie?"” she grins... “"i have no clue where he learned of this woman."”
She points at the chest “"Let's move this one to the central hall, it's easy to guard it there. I might even find a merchant to fix my..."” her mouth opens wide and a big YAAAAAWWWN sounds “"sorry i'm a little tired"” she excuses herself to Kroft and then continues “"my new armor!, although i guess i have to wait until later this morning. first i need some sleep"”

“She seems safe enough, but she survived dealing with those bad guys, so she could very well be dangerous to anyone who opposes her.” Kroft helps Erin drag all the goods into the central hall. “To the victors go the spoils, right?” he says to the team. “Let's see what we can use before the royalty gets here.”

Scully will cast detect magic and look over the items to see if he sees anything magical, and if so, to see if he can tell what the item is.

Erin sits down and grabs her little black book. she writes a few lines about what has happened and some details on the harpy and kardeswan.
As she looks over the stack of loot she sees the amulet they found earlyer. She picks up the amulet. “"Scully, what do you make of this one?"”

Scully examines all the items intently and they soon give up their hidden secrets. Auras abound, from this and that. Looking past Haleen, he even sees auras emanating from her. His study was long and slow, having so much time to kill, he maximized all the detail he could get. By this time, report of the caravan arriving to Kelmarane comes from Laron and soon thereafter Katja soars into the battle market and perches on the balcony railing. Katja caws and shrieks as if making sure everyone knows his return.

It doesn't take long for Almah and her guard to arrive, Katja making a clear point to go to the battle market. Garavel is with her. The drivers, Hadrod and Hadrah are carrying sacks of gear with them. “We've packed up all at the Monastery and brought it here. We've brought all that we thought to belong to the five of you.” Hadrod says to you all. This includes any of what you had taken from previous skirmishes before your final assault on the market, which Scully had also examined.

Father Zastoran approaches Ox and studies him intently the moment he enters the market. “Most peculiar...” he says in thought. “Dashki mentioned something of you acting possessed, but yet I see nothing. What was this name you mentioned?”

Almah also approaches, “Would it be safer to confine him until we know what this may have been? Do you think he's a risk to anyone?” Zastoran shakes his head, “I can't say either way. I see nothing in his aura. If he were truly possessed, there'd be some abnormality to his aura as the entity struggles for control. It could have been just a random phenomenon. No, I expect he's no threat to any of us, or the now free people of Kelmarane.”

Laron looks over the assembled horde of treasure. Eventually, he picks out the pair of slippers and the magical suit of studded leather armour. “If nobody objects, I would quite like to make use of these items.” He waits patiently to see if anyone else would rather take them.

Simi walks back in with the caravan, and looks through the gathered items. He holds up one of the cloaks (Cloak of Charisma) the headband (Charisma) and says, “I certainly wouldn't mind using this, unless anyone has any objections.”


Simi, with the cloak draped over his arm, looks about for Oxvard. If he finds him, he says “We found some things in a closet back there, among them was this cloak. I think they might've belonged to your companions. If you dont mind, I would like to use it.”

Eventually, Oxvard enters and Simi presents him with their findings. “All I'd like returned is my splint mail. Have you found Felliped yet? Was he here? Have you been through town yet searching?”

ACTIVE EFFECTS & CONDITIONS for All Players    A special note regarding the items mentioned in the above post of mine and the Cloak of Charisma +2. This is not a Pathfinder item and is instead to be replaced by the headband of alluring charisma +2. Not much difference other than the body slot worn. I will update the loot divider and the report posted in the treasure thread.

Ox shrugs at the worried looks
“Bah! What ever it was, it's gone now. Good riddance!” he says of that weird voice, trying to get this uncomfortable event behind him.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    I am of the belief that armor/protective items should be prioritized to the front line people (Simi & Ox) - those who statistically are targeted by more attacks (meat shields). At least, those of higher protective values. When a 'stronger' item is found, the 'old' one it can be 'given down' the line to secondary fighters (Rogues/Clerics). Splitting treasure in a PbP is extremely difficult and I've yet to find an 'easy' way to do it, although the Loot Divider could help track who got what to attempt to balance things out. Any suggestions on how to go about this? In any case, the items that Ox can certainly use are: Ring of Protection +1 Chainmail Armor [+1] Amulet of Natural Armor +1 Greataxe [+1,Bane] Potions of CMW

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    Simi isnt interested in the Chainmail, but the Ring +1 or the Natural Armor +1, he'd use. BUt, Firstly, He would use the head band since it bumps his primary stat, and directly enhances his saves, among other things.

But, I could use more crossbow bolts, protection that will work with this ring (ring of protection +1) and the headband of CHR would help with my skills, which in turn will help you. But, I understand if you say no."”

As you all begin haggling over the spoils, Almah approaches Haleen, “Well met. I am Princess Almah. May family were the original founding merchant family of Kelmarane. I see you are familiar with some of the champions I have hired for freeing Kelmarane. While I would continue to employ champions of Kelmarane to continue to maintain the peace, I'd like for you to consider the same. Some of the local merchants I've met speak well of you.”

Haleen considers for a moment, “I'm flattered Princess, but allow me some time to think of it?” Amlah nod.

“My heroes!” Almah exclaims to the lot of you, “As was the condition of your employ, those conditions now met, I have for you the gold as promised. But there is still uncertainty within this town. We must be sure all is well and secure. While there is mention of a demon below the church, I will not sanction a mission just yet taking you in that direction. I fear you will suffer too great a cost if you go now. No. I'm understanding something dark and sinister lurking in the ruined cemetery and mention of a horned creature that was in the service of the gnolls. No one recalls seeing it leave. You have lots of time to squabble over trinkets. The town must be secured. Decide what you each can put best to use, but your skill and training, the be on with it.” This by far was the best praise any of you can ever recall receiving from Almah. You must have really impressed her.

“"We did it all together..."” she states “"so i have no more right to it then any one of you... "”

She sits down... and waits for other people to decide what they all want to take. She fiddles a little with the strange slippers... they feel... strange... as she sifts through the items she takes the dagger, it's very nice balanced and sure a good addition as second weapon.
“"i am thinking"” she continues “"the chainmail will hamper my movement, slow me down... and i need to adjust it for my size as well. Maybe one of the tough guys would like to have it?"”
She stands up and searches through the simple leather armors until she finds one small enough to fit “"and is any one of you interested in this dagger or those funny sticky slippers?"”

Erin sees Ox gawk with big eyes at 'her' beautiful shiny chainmail armor, so she hands it over to him... “i guess it suits you better then me!”

“"Ah look.. this leather will do fine as a form of armor!"”she moves over to the potions and puts two potions of silversheen and two cure moderate wounds aside. “"This silvery stuff is to apply to weapons isn't it?"” she asks.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    Erin isn't after the leather +1, she already has some nice options for now. she will take 2 cure moderate wound potions (one for herself to use in dire times and one for a comrade that is in need) and she wants to take 2 silversheen potions.. Erin level 4
