LoF: The Carrion King; Day Six - Taking Back Kelmarane

The wishes unleashed over the ages by two genies have warped the Pale Mountain region to keep alive both a terrible beast and a heroic protector. These wishes have subtly warped the weave of the world to put a handful of adventurers on a trail to Kelmarane. It is these adventurers who will tread the path of fate at its most treacherous juncture, and it is they who will ultimately chart the course of history.

Laron will move up simultaneously with the group, keeping his sling in hand, but otherwise waiting for someone else to start the attack.

Meanwhile, the gnoll will move up with the rest of his own companions, thinking gloriously of the blood he will shed today.

Eli readies her crossbow and takes aim at the Guard 3, waiting for the alarm to be raised either by, Erin's attack or by the guards spotting the rogue. She will open fire as soon as the alarm is raised.

1d20+3=16
if she hits
1d8=3

Albi (Gnoll 1) will move to BG20 before readying his spear. He will likewise wait for the attack from Erin before charging into combat with guard 1. He would throw the weapon but the likelyhood of him being able to get close enough to launch it without being seen is slim.

1d20+5=19
1d8+3=10

You all advance as Erin disappears in the night. At times you think you can see her silhouette but that could just be a trick of the moonlit shadows. The guard post does not seems to react, at all.

 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
I've opted to just move you forward making my own rolls. This is as far as I've got you. This should also be your last round of surprise movement undetected. I expect that Erin will continue with her same action to attack? I've changed the Init order feeling that everything is pending on her action.

Hargk also doubles, to BI 11.

After Erin's initial attack, Laron's Gnoll will gnash his teeth in pleasure and run full pelt at the enemy, eager to whet his weapon with blood. (He does a run action to BI9).

Laron meanwhile, hangs back, ready to reinforce anyone who looks in trouble. He simply moves to BM16

Now that the attack has begun, Kroft takes a shot at guard 2.
Attack guard 2; damage (1d20+6=23, 1d8+2=4)

The gnoll also rushes forward with the main group (30 ft to BH-17).

attack 1 = 24 / dmg 4 + sneak dmg 4 = 8 dmg | attack 2 = 19 / dmg 2 x2 = 4 for a total dmg: 12
she knows that when she attacks the others will attack too and that the surprise will be complete for these guards who presumably look to the outside of the city to locate enemys.

//OOC: After reading some articles: i think i can't make a FULL attack when i am sneaking up behind a target? Unless i could have sneaked up to the intended square without bieng noticed... So that would make my initial strike 4+4 = 8 dmg. Or am i interpreting it wrong?
Erin deftly skulks up behind the guards and with one swing (her first attack) connects with a critical slice to the back of the neck. She hears tearing as the blade cuts through. Then the head tilts forward and rips from the body. Straw and stuffing are visible from the neck and the body still stands.

There's no attack from the guards and you notice that not even the other two posts show signs of movement. Erin lifts the head and throws it out to you and kicks the body down. The other two guards, with spear and arrow and bolt piercing them, are motionless. You begin to realize you've all been duped.

Erin feels stupid and takes a defensive posture while retreating..
THINKING: how could i fall for that? silently she moves backward keeping an eye out to any possible enemies waving to the others to stop closing in (not yelling)..THINKING: i hope they didn't detect us!

Erin is carefully look for ambush (1d20+8=15)

Eli reloads her crossbow and holds position, settling to one knee to check the surroundings.
THINKING: If this is a decoy then where is the snare? You'd expect them to hit us whilst we're unprepared. She glances at the others and whispers as loud as she dares.

“This is dangerous. Do we pull back like we had planned or push on to the main target?”

Albi the gnoll rushes forwards to recover his spear from the target.

Rather than a trap, this might simply be misdirection. Maybe they don't have as many defenders as we thought. Either way, lets push on. Simi says as he sets the first dummy's head back on.

I found the other two places exactly the same. No one real, no one watching either. At elast i didn't see anything around. She shows the carat that she found. This was a nose stuck on one of the "guards" grinning she puts it away.
I didn't find anything suspiscious in the town either. just some lit torches and nothing else. Any other news? is Kroft already back? or want me to check that other position (4-1) too?

When Kroft returns, he seems just a bit unnerved. Clearly he saw something that rattled him. After a couple breaths, he is able to calmly report. To the west, the four gnolls are real enough. And that other creature with them is no werewolf. I still don't know what it is, but it's a bit like a minotaur. The gnolls keep their distance but don't seem particulary frightened by it. He pauses for a moment; then resumes noticabley quieter. There is something else out there, near the cemetary. something dreadful. I'm not certain, but I think I saw two glowing eyes watching me from the darkness. With that, Kroft falls silent, even recalling the sight visibly disturbing him.

hmmm Ox thinks aloud.
Turning toward the Gnolls: Do you people know what those things might be?

and to everyone: I don't think we should attack the battle market without first taking care of these two threats... So perhaps we should focus on those right now he says.
