[OFFICIAL] Arena Rules

Post by BusyCowboy » Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:02 pm

The Official Rules are now on the WIKI for everyone to see!

Please do not modify these rules, unless you are one of the Moderators of the Arena.

What is the Starting gold of Gladiators?
How much can we equip him?

Speaking of gold, what was the prize amount for Horris? He needs to purchase something I need to know if he has the money.

Based on the rules above, Horris now has 200gp. BC overruled any changes to XP/GP winnings. The system he has implemented is done so that people can use their winnings to fund TOS+. (BC pays for upgrades/subscriptions/etc. on behalf of the players)

Okay. I'm at a loss here. How much will a 5 level gladiator get for winning a match? 200 gp? that's all I read above. the table above only indicates what he gets when leveling, and that's only if he has not leveled from all losses. I'll be spending my 200 gp to by a new weapon or two.

Yes, that is what the current rules are. BC may wind up changing it, but from what he was telling me, he wants to keep it like that for now.

So, we're implementing the three wins, six losses to level rule, but only getting 200 gp per win. That is really week and far off scale.

350,000gp/200gp = 1,250 wins.

Assuming you can win one game per week, that's 1,250 wins required, thus 1250/52 = 24 Years of playing... (assuming you don't SPEND any of your gold to better-equip yourself!!!!!)

Yep, this is ridiculous - not to insult you BC or undermine the effort, but this does not work.

I think it would be more logical to REMOVE the "I pay you subscription for 300Kgp trade-ins" part, BC. I can instead, figure out a system in which I freely give out subscription Months - This way, BC don't have to pay for it, and we can get these numbers down to more interesting levels...

No, BC did not approve of the alternate XP system, either. He rejected the XP system, as well. No changes to XP were allowed. Horris is still at 0 XP.

ok I reviewed this further - gaining a level will give you Gold, so my basic computation needs to take that into account.
With 15% XP gained, you need 7 wins to level up. So here is a better rundown of the gold gained, with the assumption that you ALWAYS win (which means the result won't be as good) AND that you never spend (ouch!)

Initial gold (as per class - assumed that it is spend)

Level 2: 7x200gp + 200gp = 1,600gp
Level 3: 7x200gp + 400gp = 1,800gp
Level 4: 7x200gp + 600gp = 2,000gp
Level 5: 7x200gp + 1,000gp = 2,400gp
Level 6: 7x200gp + 1,500gp = 2,900gp
Level 7: 7x200gp + 2,000gp = 3,400gp
Level 8: 7x200gp + 2,500gp = 3,900gp
Level 9: 7x200gp + 3,000gp = 4,400gp
Level 10: 7x200gp + 5,000gp = 6,400gp
Level 11: 7x200gp + 10,000gp = 11,400gp
Level 12: 7x200gp + 15,000gp = 16,400gp
Level 13: 7x200gp + 20,000gp = 21,400gp
Level 14: 7x200gp + 25,000gp = 26,400gp (104,400gp)
Level 15: 7x200gp + 35,000gp = 36,400gp (148,800gp)
Level 16: 7x200gp + 45,000gp = 46,400gp (187,200gp)
Level 17: 7x200gp + 55,000gp = 56,400gp (243,600gp)
Level 18: 7x200gp + 55,000gp = 56,400gp (300,000gp)
Level 19: 7x200gp + 65,000gp = 66,400gp (366,400gp) *whew* !

ok so a player that can win 7*18 = 126 games, without spending his cash to buy anything, will require, at one win per week 126 weeks (almost 2 and a half years!) to get his 350,000gp to 'buy' 6 months...

So the flaw in this system is using the gold to BOTH buy stuff, AND try to 'buy' a subscription...AND having BC 'pay' for it, which ties HIM PERSONALLY with this.

So I want these change for the ARENA:

A) BC, I do not want you to "finance" the Arena - not only the numbers make it impossible to even reach these subscription 'prices', but if we lower them and make them more accessible, then you might not be able to afford it... :P I GREATLY appreciate the idea, but I do not think you should shoulder this. By making the numbers 'lower', this will allow people more 'chance' to realistically reach for subscription prizes!

B) Remove the link between GOLD and "Buying" subscription time. Gladiators should use their gold to equip their Characters! (Is the Magic Items Compendium allowed!? It should be!). I want another mechanism that can be used to 'track' Gladiators, and their Participation. THAT should be used to 'acquire' subscription time. (I will open a NEW thread in the ARENA for this (here) to examine what we can setup for "rewards" (basically, I want idea for how to manage that))

C) I am officially placing SHAI and DUNI as Moderators for ARENA. Why? Because this will INCREASE visibility of the ARENA and because both of them are very active on the Forum. If we can get MANY games running @ the same time, the better! Active people will be mandatory to get Arena game flowing. (I hope that is ok with you guys?)

Should Pathfinder characters have Traits? By the traits packet, every character should have two, unless the DM deems otherwise. Also, how many hp would each character start with? Max HP or double HP?

1st> I don't fully recall saying that it's just 200 gp a level. I thought I had the GP chart available, but apparently that got lost along the way. LOL

2nd> Why am I being sent a PFRPG character? *Looks around to see where this was written for playtesting PFRPG at this time*. The reason why I had that delayed was so the kinks could be worked out with the general workings first, but yet now I am being sent one.

3rd> I have no problems with the moderators that you've chosen. I was going to suggest it sooner or later. LOL

Ummm... You said that you were running two separate arenas, one for 3.5 and one for PF. To quote YOU:
BusyCowboy wrote:System Used: There are going to be two separate areas set up. One for the PF system, and one for D&D 3.5. You can play in both; however you have to create two separate schools for each of them.

Books: D&D Books are as follows: PHB, Completes (All), Tome of Battle, Expanded Psionics Handbook (Just for starters, more will become available as time passes). PF: Beta/Release.
Haha, I am pretty sure that I'm reading that I can have two gladiators, one for 3.5 and one for PF. I already sent in the 3.5 character. Here is my PF character. If this is changed, you should amend the rules that you are delaying the PF arena.

I do recall it being said somewhere, chat or otherwise, that PF would not yet be implemented, either until the rules are hashed out or TOS+ v3.0 is out. The fact that it does not appear in the rules may just be an oversight when posting it. I say we hold off on Pathfinder for now, and get this working first.

the PF version is to not be tested as of yet. This would cause more strain on what we already DO have. Not to mention it'd just be a pain at this time. I am opting myself to wait for 3.0 to come out so that way we have a better idea as to what we are up against AND also to test that when we hash out all the other stuff for the basic core rules.

Once we also have the 'final' version or 1.0.0 version of the rules, I am going to do both a Word and Adobe format of them so that way we can post it.
