Idea for tracking parties that change members...

Postby ScryingEye » Fri Apr 23, 2010 11:15 pm

The item builder is great!!! What you did with the scrolls wasn't what I expected, but it works very well. I like!!!

I've shown Loot Divider around to a few people, and they loved the idea. What I've seen is that most people want a way to track treasure division with parties that changes its players/characters. (Our own group has several players and NPC's who get standard shares, but they don't go on every mission.)

I've put together an idea that would make it more useful for most people, if you are interested:

1) Make the first "player name" slot a Group slot. Anything that gets posted to this slot does not get divided up into shares.

2) Make columns with checkboxes on the right side of the Treasure! sheet for each player (including the group). One check box is for "assigned to", the other box is for "Share of". This allows three things:

a) "Assigned" only: Someone is carrying group equipment, but the gp value does not get counted aginst the individuals who earned it. (If that character gets lost, then so does that equipment.)
b) "Share of" only: Player/NPC gets a share of that loot, but doen't have that allocated aginst them as a percentage. This also means Loot can be divided up between different players based on who went on that mission/game session, not as an overall number assinged to everyone on the list.
c) Both "Share of" and "Assinged": Calculates that that person got that item, and the entire amount goes aginst his percentage. This also allows tracking of items that are "gifts" or "stolen" to specific players if an item only has a single person checked as "Share of".

3) The columns in the Item Tracker is now set up to auto-sort each player by two criteria: Assigned and Percentage. Breaks it down into 'What I own" and "what I'm carrying for the party", and still lists all the "Group" items in a single column.

4) Delete the Group and Item Tracker sheets, if desired.

I hope this makes sense...

For a suggestion, it would be preferable that you explain what functionality you want, as opposed to the 'how' it should be implemented. Most of the times, suggestions that deal with the 'How' are not as useful as suggestions that explains the 'What'!! This has always been true for TOS+, as those who suggest do not know the inner-workings and programming behind the curtains (meaning that they can't take those into consideration!!)

Would it be possible for you to rephrase your suggestion to explain what feature/ability you are suggesting?

Thanks!!!

Ah, sorry...

What I'm looking at was three different things:

1) For the Player Name Setup to have an additional "Group" listing, so some loot can be designated as group property but not counted in the percentages.

2) Have the Player's Loot sheet automatically fill out based on the entries from the Treasure! sheet.

3) Have a way for each line on the Treasure! sheet to be divided between specific individuals, not the entire group.

(Hope that makes sense of what I posted earlier...)

Ok I implemented this for the next update. Here is how it works:

In the Player's Loot Sheet, you will be able to define a player's name as "GROUP" to represent the loot assigned to the group. I also added a toggle to have the Sheet include or exclude the gold value assigned to the group, depending if you want your total to include it or not. Finally, you can define this 'GROUP' player in any of the slots!

As a bonus, I made this "GROUP" player a re-definable name: You could redefine it as the group name like "The Black Rats" or whatever, from the Tables sheet!

That would be awesome - but it is not profitable to work on such a feature, unfortunately... :(

hmm technically, this is doable, but again much work for little gain.
If you *do* have something that you split between several individuals, you can just add the names of the people who gets it.
For example, when we find 3 potions for our group of four, I will write:

Qty: 3
Desc: Potion of Cure Light Wounds
Notes: (Player1, player2, player4)

An alternative, is to split the item onto 3 rows... each player having that potion (with only his name shown)
