How to Divide Loot?

The board has been set, the pieces have been moved into their proper places, and the opponents and their moves have been studied. The time to begin the series of events that will lead to possibly the greatest war since the times of the ancient Azlanti has come. The hands behind the final pulling of the strings...nothing more than a small band of villains forged to their purpose by a cult the likes the world has not yet seen.

How to Divide Loot?

Postby admin » Tue Jan 18, 2011 6:47 pm

I would like to bring up (at the start of this PbP!) that we should agree on an 'easy' method on HOW to distribute Loot... before Loot comes into play! This would avoid the 'stalls' that other PbPs have experience when Loot arrived.

I *THINK* that the best way to do this is to appoint a kind of "Loot Captain" (NOT ME :P ).
He would balance both who gets what, while being fair to players (as much as possible), yet try to optimize item usage.

Is this a fair method to go about dividing loot?
Do you have an easier method to propose?

I get it all :thumb1:

Other than that, I have not other comments to give. I'll go with how the rest opt.

In a party like this, roleplaying the division of loot would result in it being no fair. I know that Shank, for one, would probably let greed take over and try to steal as much as he can, figuring to either use it himself or sell it off.

As a player, I'm still a firm believer in 'Need before Greed', but as I mentioned, that wouldn't work in this group.

I have two suggestions:

1. Use the 'Loot Captain', but make it the DM instead of a player.

2. Use the 'Dip' system (I.e. everyone rolls percentile dice, highest roller chooses first and so on.)

I agree with the loot captain idea. As far as who that is I have no preference.

Would you really steal from your teammates?

You've grown to know each other and the role each is to play given any circumstance.

As per that description, I doubt it.
Alignment needs not be black or white!!
While you might be totally Chaotic in general, you probably would be more Lawful toward your own team!
Right?

Stealing was probably the wrong word. It would probably be more like finding something, taking it, and not bothering to share.

In my humble opinion, this would not represent the correct Role Playing aspect within the given frame of reference. At least, that is not how I would play a rogue in such a 'brainwashed' situation.

In such a brainwashed situation, a rogue is still a rogue and in this environment while still being part of a team, it would not be out of scope to be selfish, rogue or not.

Looking out for the team is all well and good, and definitely something that Shank will be doing. For example, a magical greatsword would go straight to the party, but if he found a magical dagger, or a nice suit of leather armour, he'd be wanting it for himself.

Exactly - and Nox would want YOU to have that cloak of protection, for when you come up against magical traps - so that you get the best chances of survival - which means that Nox would then have a better chance of surviving as well :D

Heh. I think we could possibly be allowed a bit of OOC-ness here. Maybe use something along these lines:

1. If only one person can use it, and they will use it, it goes to that person.
2. If multiple people can use it, but only one of them will use it, or will use it much more often, it goes to that person.
3. If multiple people can use it, and they can use it with equal effectiveness, it goes to the person who it would be more of an upgrade for.
4. If multiple people can use it, and they can use it with equal effectiveness, and it would be the same amount of an upgrade for both of them, then: ???
5. If nobody can use it, it's party treasure.
6. Potions, scrolls and wands (to an extent) get split amongst the eligible party members in an equal fashion, with the most eligible character taking them first.

I think this is fair, the only step I'm not sure about is 4, but I think that might be a quite rare occurence.

I'll approve Benji's proposal. In regards to item #4, that would then become a draw and to be haggled by those involved. As it won't involve everyone, it shouldn't take very long.

Item #4) When reduced to a haggle those involved can begin bidding on the item to what they would offer the party in return for having the item. They would in effect be offering to buy it from the party.

Another option is that they only haggle until the other(s) give in and it becomes settled.

I still say give it all to me.

This is exactly what a Loot Captain would follow - rule wise. And COMPLETELY avoid ANY haggling to boot!
For #4, the LC would decide, by looking at what ppl already have received...

Welp, I think we've decided on a method. Haggling is good, but in a PbP it takes up far too much time. I think a loot captain would work fairly well for that purpose.

For what it's worth, I'll offer my services as Loot Captain. Don't worry, as a player I'm quite fair. It's just Shank who's greedy :P

AWESOME! You get my vote!!!
And since you're a contributor to boot, you have access to the Loot Divider, and any of the 'support' sheet it has (should you wish to use it to track the player's Loot)

Nox started out with a Ring of Protection +1

We need to know if everyone else is OK with this idea - so please reply (and tell the LC what item you have, so as to help him decide future stuff)
