[talk]Hey there dosen't seem to be any other other way out of here. Let's turn the wheel and see what happens[/talk] Valeros lays his hands on the wheel waiting for comment or for someone to help.

Kyra mutters something about messing with things they don't really understand, but does nothing to stop Valeros from turning the wheel...

[ooc]The Wheel cannot be turned any further, as you see there is much chain already wrapped around it. But you can remove the lock, which would enable you to 'unwind' the chain so that whatever it is pulling on would be released. Does Valeros do this?[/ooc]

[ooc]This is probably some kind of dungeoneering check, but let's see if an untrained Int roll does anything useful...

Valeors pulls his hands back like he just touched a hot iron. Looking to Merisiel... [talk]What? Do you think it’s trapped?[/talk] Valeros steps away from the wheel and waits.

It would be Knowledge: Engineering to be precise... I don't think anyone here has that skill :P[/ooc]

Merisiel does not know anything else about this...

Valeros cautiously removes the lock and begins to watch for changes in the area. Moving the wheel only half a turn, stopping, checking, and then moving it again.
Valeros comments to the group...[talk]If anyone sees something bad, let me know and I will stop.[/talk]

The moment Valeros removes the lock, the wheels starts moving to unwind the chain, which is pulling on it.
It seems as if the chain (which goes up to disappear into the ceiling) is being pulled from somewhere else now that the lock allows movement. Metallic noises fill the humid room as the rusted links of the chain slide off the wheel

[ooc]Does Valeros lets the chain completely 'unwind' from the wheel?[/ooc]

The wheel squeals metal sounds as it is re-wound into place. Valeros noted that he had to put some muscle into this... !

Valeros groans with one last tug and put the lock in place... [talk]So where do you want to search? Maybe at the bottom of these pools?[/talk] Valeros suggest that we could use Merisiel's short sword as a light source under water, and tether a rope around the swimmer’s waist to pull them back to the surface when they give a tug on the rope. Valeros looks at Merrisiel and comments... [talk]Would you like to be the swimmer? Your vision would be better than the rest of us.[/talk]

[talk]Well, I'm certainly not the best choice to go for a swim,[/talk] says Krya, looking at her heavy armor. [talk]But be careful, Ezren said there was another skeleton down there.[/talk]

OUT OF CHARACTER
Valeros as a 2 in swim with armor and I believe Merisiel has a 1. Valeros may have a better chance surviving an encounter, but Merisiel with her low light vision & perception will have a better chance of finding item/s...and the rope can help whom ever is swiming to surface.. Just saying :hmm:

[talk]Ezern said there was a skeleton in the pit he was in. Maybe we should save that one for last and if need be I will go in or we could take turns...I would of course need to use your sword for light.[/talk] Valeros comments

I know :P I was just trying to delay things :P

[talk]Probably best if you do it then.[/talk] Merisiel says to Valeros. [talk]Here's the ring, and here's the sword. Bring both back![/talk]

Valeros nods in agreement, removes his pack, pulls out the silk rope, wraps it around his waist and gives the other end to Ezern, Merisiel, and Kyra to manage. Putting on the swim ring and taking Merisiel's Short sword (in his off hand, leaving primary free to draw his club or MW Long sword)... [talk]So, I'm ready. Three quick tugs on the rope means I want you to pull me up, four means in a hurry.[/talk] Valeros prepares to jump in the pool to his left @ P17, and jumps in as soon as the others are ready.

Valeros jumps in the water, and indeed notices that he can swim better then normally possible - his Chainmail armor should have more effect then it currently has!
The water is quite cold; it was one thing to have his legs in the cold waters, but something else to be submerged by it!

With the others holding the rope, he dives courageously; although Merisiel's magical sword should provide plenty of illumination, he realizes that the water is very dirty - dirt that even gets in his eyes as he tries to see underwater. The visibility is about 4 inches, and that is when he holds the sword close to his eyes... Clearly, navigating this 'dirty soup' will be very difficult at best...

[ooc]Does Valeros continues downward even though he can barely see anything?[/ooc]

Valeros continues downward. If anything, vision is worst, with higher density particles more present as he nears the bottom.
Then, he feels something scratching him - best guess would be a Skeleton, as Ezren has described when he went for his pleasant swim.

Ezren snaps out of his trance like state, still traumatized by the water and skeleton [talk]Was I not right Valeros, the skeleton... skeleton underwater.... clawing at you.[/talk]
Ezren looks a little distraught, but coming around[talk]You know there is probably something down there, and I am far from being even an average swimmer.[/talk]
Thinking for a moment [talk]This wheel must be a mechanism for something further away than this room. It's chain goes into the ceiling and as far as I can tell there's nothing in this room it connects to.[/talk]

[talk]How deep is the water, Valeros?[/talk] says Kyra thoughtfully, [talk]If not too deep, I might be able to exterminate that horror tomorrow from a distance, so you could search safely. For now, isn't it more important to try to locate Dimira, if she's still alive, and search watery pits for secrets and treasures later? Is there anywhere we've not yet searched for the living?[/talk]
