Basement of the Abbey

You and your newfound companions have been contracted to investigate Slip Gallows Abbey, the past headquarters of the late (and unlamented) Gray Deacons. Over forty years ago, all of the Gray Deacons were claimed by an unknown curse and their headquarters sealed by the same magic. Your employer has learned of a way inside and has hired your group of adventurers to slip inside and claim the treasure of the Gray Deacons

Striker prepares to act in the event of an obvious threat. Mugtork also prepares himself, ready for action.

Thoros acts decisively by moving ahead and then calling upon his connection to the positive planes. The humanoid flinches, obviously injured by the channeling of positive energy.

Garoth puts his dagger away and then prepares for engaging any opponent from a distance by drawing and loading his crossbow.

The humanoid begins to move towards Thoros' and his companions, weapons out and ready. Striker responds by firing his two arrows, hitting with both. Mugtork can also respond, if he wishes.

The orc will move up, but not enough to give an AoO and ready his attack for the next round if the thing moves closer or if he can do so without giving it an AoO.

Are you intending to double move all the way up to the humanoid (which you could do without triggering AoO) or stop somewhere short (like, beside Thoros)?

Kasidra will move up to 3315 and be ready to respond in case of attack. She will also take the time to look again at the humanoid once she is closer in order to attempt to identify it.

Mugtork moves ahead, passing Thoros and climbing the first set of stairs. Looking upwards around the corner, the half-orc barbarian spots a dark outline amidst the gloom so he halts. The stairs continue upwards into a large room, dimly lit by narrow windows so that it is cloaked in shadows.

(Mugtork still has a Standard or Move action to use, considering it to be Held.)

The orc will wait to see what happens. He will have his weapon ready to attack anything that needs to be killed.

The humanoid steps forward and drives its shortsword deep into Mugtork’s shoulder. (9 hp piercing damage)

A second humanoid erupts from the shadows and slams its shortsword past Thoros’ shield and deep into the oracle’s side. (18 piercing damage)

The other creature moves ahead and reaches to touch Mugtork. Its slips past Mugtork’s defenses and chills the half-orc so much that he is weakened. Those with training immediately recognize the creature as a shadow. (3 Strength damage)

Mugtork responds to the attack by swinging at the humanoid. He just manages to hit the humanoid but does enough damage to remove that threat. The humanoid falls limply to the floor, toppling away from the half-orc’s blade.

Cleart fires at the other humanoid, hitting once. Kasidra moves up to engage that opponent, swinging her blade and connecting.

Round 2

Thoros moves slightly and swings his mace at the humanoid, hitting solidly. His backswing, however, went badly wide and the oracle barely recovered without losing his weapon or leaving himself open to attack.

Garoth moves ahead, storing his crossbow and drawing a dagger as he does.

Striker fires twice, hitting with his second shot and driving an arrow deep into the humanoid’s side.

The first humanoid lies bleeding at the top of the stairs by Mugtork. The half-orc notices that the bleeding has not stopped.

Mugtork swings at the shadow, hitting it well enough to destroy it.

Several of the party notice that three other shadows are moving along or through the walls in an attempt to move past the party.

The second humanoid attempts to move past Kasidra. The paladin is more nimble than she appears, though, and the humanoid fails.

Round 2 (continued)

Kasidra hits the humanoid when it tried to slip past her and it wobbles, nearly falling to the ground before recovering. Cleart then hits it with an arrow and the humanoid falls to the floor. While everyone watches, the body slowly fades until it is nearly the colour of the shadow-covered floor. Then, the body seems to fall apart into patches of shadow that shift and shimmer as they leach away into the darkness.
