type of game

Post by Sunbolt » Wed Jan 04, 2006 10:01 pm

Just so I have an idea what type of games you enjoy playing. Since the polls only seem to allow for one vote - your messages can be used to indicate second choices etc.

In addition to voting for what you want MOST (even if it is most by a tiny tiny bit) I'd like you to put a 1-10 next to each option in your message with a 10 being MUST HAVE IT and a 1 being OH GOSH PLEASE NO! NOT THAT! ANYTHING BUT THAT! A 5 would be - oh, ok. This is kinda fun, too.

1. Combat! HACK AND SLASH!
2. Puzzles
3. Strategy
4. Riddles
5. Lateral Logic
6. Role Play - Politics/Intrigue
7. Dungeon Crawl
8. Role Play - Diplomacy with NPCs - non political
9. Role Play - Bars and Barter
10. Unusual Environments (water, underwater, mountains, elemental plains, Deserts, etc.)

1 - I think this is self explanatory
2 - I'll post actual puzzles - anything from crosswords to a virtual rubic's cube - you'll have to figure a way to solve it or bypass it to "advance".
3 - Usually combat related, but often with armys as opposed to single or small group combat. Setting a trap for a giant would fall under this, or heading off the goblin army - a siege etc. As opposed to going behind enemy lines to directly confront the leader - see option 1.
4 - Read the hobbit? We're talking real riddles - word puzzles that play on metaphor, analagies and other connections. A true riddle has only one right answer that works for all its parts - but might still have a false trail that almost works....
5 - Lateral logic - or thinking outside the box is a big craze these days. 2 and 2 is 22 not 4. It's sometimes called sideways thinking.
6 - Also self explanatory - the fate of the kingdom or the world depends on how you manipulate situations - less combat often city based, so less travel - except on diplomatic missions.
7 - Self explanatory - goes with 1 - offers more in the way of treasure as well.
8 - Like 6 but not a lot of politics. Meet the farmer and his daughter, woo the maiden - or win the groom, lots of people populate a world - and you'll spend a lot of time with all of them in their natural environments.
9 - More limited than 8. Takes the place of Gather information rolls. You actually play out the encounters. Want to trade in that +1 dagger or get a mage to add a few pounds of additional extra dimential space to a bag of holding? This is what you would rate high.
10 - Lots of travel and survival in the "natural" world becomes an issue. This Stromwrack, Frostburn, Planar travel etc.

I'd put 2, 4, and 5 last, because I'm a half-orc in real life :)

The rest sound like good fun to me!
