Encounter at Shadow Castle Keep Parts 1 and 2

“Sorry!” Cyrius calls to Marcus as he attacks L25 (rather than Kushak) to assist his inadvertently blinded comrade.


He then re-charges his weapon with psychic energy.

Marcus steps back 5' and hoping no one has moved he shifts his aim slightly to the right to target L25. After discharging another missile he asks, “did I hit?”

Round 8

Prost attacks L6 with his sling staff, but misses. He retrieves another CLW potions to feed to Fluffy. Prost tries to calm Fluffy “Easy boy...” Fluffy waits patiently for his treat.

Marcus steps back 5' and hoping no one has moved he shifts his aim slightly to the right to target L25. After discharging his wand, Marcus hears a couple of satisfying thumps [missile got past concealment to do 4 hp damage and kill L25!]. Uncertain of the exact results though, he asks “Did I hit?”

Worrel tries again, attacking all three of the lizardmen. Unfortunately, he misses the first lizardman and is unable to continue.

Tex replies to Marcus, “You hit good, good, my friend!” Trying to emulate Marcus' results, he fires two arrows into the melee. The force of his second shot impales L23 through the uppermost part of their toppling body [6 hp damage kills L23].

Lola drops her crossbow, draws her short sword +1 and attacks what stands in front of her, but misses.

“Sorry!” Cyrius calls to Marcus as he attacks L24 (redirected, since Marcus took care of L25 himself) to assist his inadvertently blinded comrade. With a cavalier disregard for the danger facing him, Cyrius haughtily dispatches the foe with a slash and a smile [12 hp damage kills L24]. 

Thanks only to Kushak's blindness, Cyrius avoids that lizard's powerful swipe by less than a hair [a potential crit that only missed because of the 50% miss chance!]. The other lizards, blind and sighted, that surround Cyrius aren't even close to hitting him.

The lizards fighting Worrel also aren't even close to hitting.

L10, however, executes a mighty overhand swing that produces a loud crack as it smacks into Lola [9 hp damage].

On the very far side of the keep, the last group of lizards (L1-5) continues moving.

Again going by memory, Marcus targets in the direction he recalls L26 at. He discharges his wand in hope of another successful attack.

Again going by memory, Marcus targets in the direction he recalls L26 at. He discharges his wand in hope of another successful attack. He suspects success when he hears two solid objects connect producing a booming clang [2 hp damage].

Worrel continues trying to cut down the three lizardmen. He hacks into L8 with a devastating assault [8 hp damage], but doesn't get around to swinging on the rest.

Tex takes a step closer to the melee to keep within point blank range. Both his arrows fly wide, though.

Lola shrugs off the damage and swings her +1 short sword at L10, to no avail.

Cyrius turns his attention to Kushak, hewing at the lizardman with his psychically-charged mind blade. A whorling chop whips across the lizard's gut, leaving behind a stained mark [8 hp damage]. Cyrius re-charges his mind blade with psychic energy.

None of lizards around Cyrius can penetrate his defenses.

One of Worrel's foes manages a swing that collides with thunderous force [8 hp damage], but the others aren't so lucky.

Lola's opponent makes a quick jab lands with jarring force [3 hp damage].

On the very far side of the keep, the last group of lizards (L1-5) continues approaching.

Round 10

Prost fires at the lizardman just south of Worrel. Due to the chaos of melee, he misses. He reloads his slingstaff, commenting “Easy Fluffy, let's stand our ground.”

With his arm still in its same position, Marcus discharges the wand again at the same target. He hears a loud splat as the power of the magic smashes into what he assumes (correctly) his enemy [3 hp damage]

Worrel continues trying to dispatch all three lizard-men around him. Delivering a powerful sundering strike to L8, he anticipates that opponent's defeat and continues swinging through its collapsing form, grazing L9, then hewing through L6 [5 hp damage kills L8, 9 hp to L9, and 12 hp kills L6].

Tex's first arrow spikes into L26 enemy landing where it will do the most harm, as is evident by the lizard's prompt collapse [11 hp damage kills L26]. His second arrow does some harm, but not quite as much, to L28 [9 hp damage].

Lola once again swings her +1 sword, but misses again.

Cyrius strikes at Kushak once more, but misses. He recharges his mind blade with psychic energy after the attack.

Blind, Kushak has no luck swinging and biting at Cyrius. One of his supporters (L28), however, steps into a flanking position and gets in a lucky swipe with his crude morningstar [natural 20, critical not confirmed, gets him a whopping 2 hp damage]

L9 has no success attacking Worrel.

In a moment of savagery, L10 briefly overwhelms Lola's defense with a brutal strike [3 hp damage].

The last group of lizards (L1-5) begins coming into medium range.

Still trained to where 26 was, Marcus continues his aim in that direction hoping that there was still a foe in that direction. He also eagerly anticipates this blindness will end soon.

Round 11

Prost snaps off a shot at L10. The bullet bucks and bounces off the target in a stinging impact [critical not confirmed due to shooting into melee and cover, but still 7 hp damage]. “Come on Fluffy” Prost comments as he mounts Fluffy, successfully but less gracefully than intended.

Still trained to where L26 was, Marcus continues his aim in that direction hoping that there was still a foe. The Wand of the Blind Mage Emeral results in a high-pitched clink will echo in L28's ears as the lizard journeys to its swampy afterlife [2 hp damage is enough to kill L28]. As anticipated, Marcus' blindness ends just in time to see the lizardman fall.

Worrel attacks the final lizardman he faces, hoping to dispatch this opponent. As hoped, his strong swing rips completely through the enemy's body, leaving L9 as dead as dead can be [6 hp damage kills L9].

Tex's fires two arrows that miss L22.

Lola, feeling a bit frustrated, once again swings the +1 sword. In a moment of dramatic showmanship, she forces L10 to lose sight of her weapon for one costly instant [3 hp damage]

Still concentrating on Kushak, Cyrius makes another attack. He makes an unorthodox move that lands unexpectedly and rakes against the lizard leader [12 hp damage]. He infuses his mind blade with psychic energy afterwards.

Kushak swipes his club and bites at Cyrius, missing by a narrow margin only due to his blindness. His vision clears just in time to see the rest of his folk begin to flee! Seeing the lizard corpses littering the ground around him, he understands why. Even on Kushak's inhuman face, Cyrius can read the signs of fear, suggesting the leader might soon follow his fellows...

L10 and L22 withdraw from their respective opponents. L1-L5 reverse direction and beginning running away (they are off the left side of the map now).

Prost yells out...We should consider giving quarter to Kushak if he yelds to us. Prost then yells...KUSHAK do you surrender!

Prost then comments...“We will learn nothing of this assault if he is dead.” Prost lowering his voice assuming he has everyone's attention. Prost then rides Fluffy within 30' of Kushak to here his answer should he survive.
