You move cautiously down the stairs. Brad, Eric, and Marcus each carry a Molotov cocktail in one hand and a disposable lighter in the other. Sahid hangs back a step, holding the fire extinguisher. As you reach level ground, you can see the beetle swarm suddenly spring into more frantic motion. It appears your presence is not unnoticed...
OUT OF CHARACTER
The swarm's second listen check beat your DC10 move silently, so it's time for initiative... Based on results below, Brad should wait a validation before planning anything. Of course, you might all want to delay until the beetle swarm moves into throwing range.

Initiative order:
ROUND 1
Marcus Tilsworth
Sahid Khan - 7 hp damage
Eric Lightner - 12 hp damage
Beetle Swarm
---> validation
Brad Laskin
ROUND 2
Marcus Tilsworth
Sahid Khan
Eric Lightner
Beetle Swarm
---> validation

I think we should wait till they're within ten feet, then light 'em and smash 'em and scram up the stairs, Eric suggests with tight-lipped nervousness as the swarm approaches. (If the swarm is that close when his time to act comes, that's what he'll do: litht the cocktail, throw it to the floor where the swarm is, then charge up the stairs.)

ROUND 1

You all wait for the swarm to come into range. It comes skittering toward you as fast as it can, but isn't quite as close as you would have hoped.
OUT OF CHARACTER
I treated everyone's post as a delay action, so I just resorted the initiative...

Initiative:
ROUND 1 CONTINUES
Marcus Tilsworth
Sahid Khan - 7 hp damage
Eric Lightner - 12 hp damage
Brad Laskin
ROUND 2
Beetle Swarm

---> validation

Eric also steps back one square, ready to light and fling -- and retreat -- as soon as the swarm gets within ten feet.

I know I have two.
OUT OF CHARACTER
How many, in all did we make? The five that I'm finding was regarding the gallons of gas and a sufficient number of bottles to match. Here's that post. Doing the math, 5 gallons would end up being way to much. That amount could make 53 Cocktails assuming each bottle to be 12 ounces, which is common for bear in the U.S. Perhaps we acquire two six packs and used one gallon to make ten Cocktails? the rest of the fuel could be poured around the swarm if it still lives, or we just say we got 1 gallon.

This is what I recall also. I think five should be enough for one swarm. So the count then is: Eric 2, Brad 1, Marcus 2, Sahid standing by.

Per Readying an Action, you can ready a move action or a standard action, but not both. So getting ready to both light (move action) and throw (standard action) won't work. You can each 5 foot step and light, then ready an action to throw once the swarm comes within 10'. That okay?

As for the molotov cocktails, let's say you bought a gallon of gas and a 12 pack of bottles, enough to make 12 cocktails (the cocktails don't fill the bottles completely), and you have made 5 up to this point. I think that should be more than enough to get you through this adventure.

In unison, Marcus, Brad, and Eric step back and light their Molotov cocktails, awaiting the approach of the teeming mass of beetles. As the beetles come swarming forward, oblivious to the danger that awaits it, they each fling their bottles toward the swarm...

Marcus' throw is dead on [Natural 20, but critical not confirmed]. Numerous beetles begin to burn in the splash of fiery gasoline, but the swarm keeps coming.

Eric's throw is also quite good. More and more beetles ignite, but there are still enough to keep the mass moving forward.

Fortunately, Brad's aim is also accurate. His Molotov was apparently better made than the first two, as the explosion is a bit larger. The smell of burning insects fills the air.

Oblivious to the flames, some of the beetles keep tumbling toward you. However, just before they reach you, these last beetles ignite and burn to a crisp right at your feet!
OUT OF CHARACTER
The swarm is gone. The last bottle (Brad's) did just enough damage to disable the swarm, and when it tried to make the second half of it's double move to reach you, the last beetles died.

You are now free to continue your exploration of the mysterious tomb. Here's the map again for reference.

Turn the sarcophagus again. Marcus doesn't wait for the flames to be extinguished and steps around them. He begins turning the sarcophagus as soon as he gets to it. While we don't know what may be down there, we do know what is up there, he says pointing to each alcove respectively. I'm itching to know what that face protects and if turning this will disable the trap.

I agree that we should prepare some more molotovs before continuing, Eric proposes, and I'm willing to swing the sarcophagus around to see what happens. But considerin' that Sahid and I aren't exactly in the best of shape, we may want to postpone anything further until we've had an opportunity to heal up.

Marcus coughs at the recollection of his teammates condition and his abscessing over the discoveries that await. THINKING: Here, come sit and I'll have a look at your wounds. Marcus opens his pack and removes a medical kit, setting it beside him. Once Eric and Sahid take a seat near him, he examines the wounds and removes the necessary dressing, cleaner, disinfectant, and anything else and gets to work at mending them.

Well, okay. Since I've gotten here, I've been dying to see this face. I'd really like to see what's behind it before we turn this sarcophagus any further. We have an elevator in one alcove, a hole in another, and this face above this. I think that's enough for now. I'm not an experienced climber though, so I may be needing assistance in getting up. Marcus heads over to the lantern and begins to try climbing up, the decision apparently already made.
Climbing to the top (1d20-1=4)

Marcus begins his climb only to get a few feet up and promptly looses his grip and is back where he started. I may take some time if I keep trying on my own, he says with a bit of a smile.

Seeing that he's only at fifty percent, and considering the account he's heard of the last party that ventured into the raised passage, Eric elects to wait in the alcove... in square 2107, to avoid any possible falling teammates. He will keep an eye on the main chamber.

No one has a rope (I'm pretty sure), so Brad climbs to the top and then stabilizes the chain for Marcus (aid another) so that he can also make it to the top, taking his time and bracing his feet against the wall. Nothing has changed in the corridor. The face is still there, looking menacing.
