Eric suggests one of the chemical light sticks he has be activated, tied or otherwise fastened (he has duct tape) to some rope or twine, weighted with some stones, and used to plumb the submerged area to get an idea of how deep it seems to be. If it's a descent into the murky depths, the group will probably have to get scuba gear before proceeding further.
BTW, are those of use who were fatigued still in that condition?
