So much for Back Together [Jear, Rain, and Sunim]

Sharn, the City of Towers, is known as a place to find anything. As Night rises, this city's mettle will be put to the test.

Easy there, friend. I don't think I trust house Tarkanan at the moment. They're linked to my associates. Then again, so is this place, but they do not recognize me or my companions. Provided we can get a room here, we'll be alright. Rain reassures the tablet.

"My good sir, where will our sleeping quarters be?" he says to the halfling.

Rain looks to his comrades for either a nod of approval or an indication to go elsewhere.

Sleeping out in the open was not in the plan. Perhaps elsewhere would be a better place, as I am sure you agree.

However, sleeping in the den of assassins? Is that wise?

Rain looks to the halfling and says

"I thank you for your hospitality, my friend, unfortunatly I think it is best we stay elsewhere. I had not realized there would be no privacy here. Thank you for your aid."

He hands the halfling another 5 gold.

"For your troubles, sir. Have a good evening."

Rain turns to leave.

I hope you are right, my friend.

Jear follows. To Rain he says, "I need healing, bad...."

OUT OF CHARACTER
I thought we got healing? Or did I miss something? I'm sorry, I've been very busy with work. If not all the necissary healing was taken care of, then Rain would definitely make sure his friends were set before they left.[/00c]

Because Rain has still not identified himself as working for Clan Boromar, the discount does not apply. All healing services are at full price, so it is 5gp per CLW and 50gp per CLW potion.

The party taps out the spells first.

After 4 spells, Rain is still slightly injured.

Next, the party begins chugging Cure Light Wounds potions. They have ten in stock. Jear goes next. After three potions, he is doing much better.

Finally, Sunim, who is the least damaged of the group, goes last. After 6 potions, he is nearly healed. Rain drinks the last potion, but is still not healed all the way.

Total damage remaining:
Rain 7hp
Jear 3hp
Sunim 2hp

Total cost of services: 500gp for the potions, 20gp for the spells, grand total of 520gp.

"We still need a good nights sleep, then we need to try and find out what befell Grug. I hate not going back to help, but there was no way to assist or prevent whatever happened to him by the time we got back. Still, we need to know if there is a chance he is still alive. But first things first. Sleep. At this point I would take a stable. And we need to get a note to your employers about the spy that exists in their ranks. Is there a way to send a coded message to them that we are sure will get to the intended recipients? "

You must have forgotten, but during character creation, I told you that if you wanted the ability to send encrypted messages, you should put a rank or two in Decypher Script. You did, so yes, Rain is INCREDIBLY adept at both decrypting and encrypting messages (+9 modifier)

Rain nods to Jear.

"Yes, there is a way to send a message. We'll find a place to get some sleep behind doors that lock, and I'll write a message in the morning."

I really hope you are right about this, my friend. Also, should we get injured again, I believe I have an item you can use to help us.

Once outside,

"I think I know of a small inn that's a non-affiliate, just up the street. Might be a good place to hole up for the night."

Sorry, friend, but rest is a necessity and we can't afford to be wandering around the city much longer. I should be able to fortify the place if it's got a door, though. We'll rest safe.

Rain, Jear, and Sunim head up the street to the inn that Rain mentioned, The Hornless Ram. Rooms cost 3sp per person, or 9sp total. A meal is an additional 5sp per person for a total of 2g4sp for room and board.

Keep in mind that traps are costly. If you want the materials to be recoverable whether or not the trap is sprung, you are going to need to put some extra effort into it (and some extra materials). Otherwise, it will be a very low-DC trap easily avoidable. Well-crafted traps take time and effort. If you are willing to drop an additional 100gp, your trap will be recoverable and you will be capable of putting it together with plenty of time. For each 10gp you "cheap out" will increase the DC by 1 (consider it that you can make the DC by taking a 10 at 100gp, but if you drop it by 100gp, you will need a 20 which would take a week or a roll of a natural 20).

OUT OF CHARACTER
In the effort of discretion and security, Rain goes out using whatever materials are necissary to fortify the door and any windows in his room.

Jear takes a different approach and pushes his bed up against the door. He then takes off his gear and keeps it packed and handy to be picked up, but unsheathes his swords and sleeps with a hand on each on his bedroll in the corner. He makes sure that he is not visible by the window and puts his pack into the bed to make it looks like someone is sleeping there.

With Jear's bed placed inconveniently in front of the door that Rain is trying to set up a trap for, Rain is forced to crawl under the bed, over the bed, and before Jear knows it, there is a trap built around his bed. He better be careful while trancing* for his four hours. If he moves around too much, he may very well set off the trap himself, but in the end, the bed is in front of the trapped door. Rain writes his letter, carefully encoding it, ready for delivery in the morning.

With a group that requires so little rest, you could easily keep one person awake at all times during a six-hour night, especially since Sunim wears a ring of sustenance and requires only two hours of sleep.

*For those not familiar with the term "trancing":
Player's Handbook 3.5 page 15 wrote:Physical Description: ...
Elves do not sleep, as members of the other common races do. Instead, an elf meditates in deep trance for 4 hours a day. An elf resting in this fashion gains the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep. While meditating, an elf dreams, though these dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. The Common word for an elf's meditation is "trance," as in "four hours of trance."

"Jear, I recomment sleeping on the floor."

Rain drapes a sheet over the table in the room and slides it under the window. He then sits under the table and begins his trance, his swords sheathed but in his lap, hands on the grips.
