Choose the 32-bit over the 64-bit version of Office!!

Post by admin »

NOTE: With the release of TOS+ v5, this became moot!! indeed this new major update does not requires any special control, as was required for the treeview control!

TOS+ 64 bits is created using the 32 bits version, then removing the reference to Common Controls.

So installing the 32 bits version of Excel allows you to run all he previous controls - some of which have not been created (by Microsoft) for the 64 bits version.
Usually, the 64 bits version is useful for HUGE files! Even Microsoft advises normal people to use the 32 bits version:
In most cases, install the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office. We recommend the 32-bit version of Office, because it helps prevent compatibility issues with most other applications, especially third-party add-ins.

It is the Treeview Control that is not part of the 64 bits edition (it is located in ComCtl!)
And this control is used for the QuickPick feature.
The following are some things not in the 64-bit version of Office.
* ActiveX controls library, ComCtl This library contains ActiveX controls used to build solutions. It is most commonly used in Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

Well, for whatever reason, it worked for me way back when...when you first put it in.

Never mind, I must have just opened the 32 bit version.

So, why would I need to install a 32 bit version of excel, if my 64 bit opens the 32 bit file?

the 64-bit version of Excel will open the 32-bit version of the file, but the tree view control used in the quick picks will not function because that is part of MSCOMTL which does not exist for 64-bit and is only a 32-bit control

Well never mind, I apparently have the 32 bit version, however, not quite sure how I can open the 64 bit files then. Unless thats normal...maybe its frontwards compatible!!

64 bits version of the sheet IS the 32 bits version, MINUS the Tree View Control... that's all!
(Excel workbooks are not 'compiled' as 32 or 64 bits!!)

The Quick Picks are totally awesome... I love them so much that I took the time to add them in the Loot Divider as well! The Loot Divider has like over 3,000 items to select... The quick pick makes it a breeze to find stuff - AND it will jump to words when you start typing in a sub-section!! mouhahaha
