Chapter Three: We're off to see the Wizard... Er... Sage

Tagrel just shrugs and says, “Tracks are gone. Too many rocks. He coulda gone either way. Whichever we check first, he'll probably be at the other, unless he came here and then left by magic or something.”

“Most likely he went totally nuts and takes over Krills place.

Any plans?”

Did we ever determine who was carrying the other treasure from Krill's lair? I know I declared that I took some of the money, a dagger, and bronze ring with a stone pattern but that leaves the rest of the money, another dagger, a MW large longsword, and two unidentified rings. Just curious how everyone wanted to split up the rest. For right now I'm just going to stuff everything in my bag until someone wants to claim something.

By what I recall, Vernon took the gloves, Gir took a ring, and Nain took the bag and remaining two rings, so the only thing left was the short sword and remaining coins. I guess that's what you now have too.

 

“Divide and conquer, or divide and be conquered? I say we stick together. We don't know what that flame is and considering it's effect on the gnome and Therass, we should remain cautious in approaching it. We know what to expect in Krill's lair. Let's head there and rule that out before we consider seeking a way to the top as no other option.” Ny looks to the others for agreement or argument.

“Well, last time Krill's lair was more dangerous then the flame. At least in the sense of physical danger. I will climb up to get a look at the flame and see if Therass is up there as long as you watch my back from down here.”

Rift looks up the rocky ledge, “I have no intention of actually going near the flame or in it and I think Therass' reaction to the flame was meant for him specifically.” With that, Rift begins climbing, not really waiting for an answer

jest to Rift, Ny says: “Maybe we should tie a rope to you then. This way if you get all funny, I can pull it and bring you back down.”

Nain shakes here head and focuses on guarding Rifts back.She will keep an eye on all locations in his back.

That's my recollection too, although I believe Nain only took the bag and rings as someone to hold on to them? I've been assuming that Gir/Vornon have been wearing the ring/gloves since they took them, but if Nain has also been wearing the rings then could you please let me know?

 

As one of the original ones who tries climbing the rocks, Rift immediately notices one thing. It's nowhere near as hot as it once was. It's still warm, and you can feel the sweat trickling down your back, but it's no longer completely impossible to climb higher. He eventually reaches the top to see Therrass sitting cross legged in front of the flame with his back to you.

Seeing Rift successfully make it to the top, Ny's just about to yell up to him when he thinks twice about it.
THINKING: That would not have been a good idea yet.

Once he makes it up and sees Therass, Rift will try to signal the others that everything is ok on the top and will slowly move towards Therass.

“Therass, what are you doing? You were gravely ill yesterday and should be getting taken care of.”

Once Gir sees that Rift has reached the top safely, he starts making his way up as well.

There aren't any obvious injuries on him. There may possibly be some underneath his armour, but he's otherwise fine. I'll let apwhite do the replying for him.

Therrass turns to Rift with a dreamy smile on his face. “I am fine, my friend. I felt the need to commune for a while. You shouldn't have worried, I would have been ready for what lies ahead in the near future and we could continue with helping the rest of you.” Once the others have ascended the rockface, Therrass turns to each of them in turns. “Ah, I see you all came after me. Such worthy companions...” He tilts his head to one side, almost as if he's listening to someone else that you can't see. “Ah. I understand. Come my friends! Let us continue with our adventures!”

Rift scratches at his head for a moment. “But....where do we go next then. You made a statement that we were going to ask a sage about, however with your sudden recuperation perhaps you can answer it yourself. You said we needed to find our opposite equals, do you remember that?”

[Benji]

“Yes. I remember saying that. It's quite simple really. We need to find the opposites of our equal selves. Just like I did.”

[Duniagdra]

“Therass, it's good to see up up and able again. You seem... happy? What have you remembered?” Ny seems perplexed by this turn of events.

Tagrel is confused by Therass' answer, but this doesn't bother him too much, since he's used to being confused. “So is gnome the opposite of catfolk? Or is fire the opposite?”

“We need to find what opposites. What is the opposite of a Dwarf”

“If we look at the words literally, Then for me, the opposite equal should be someone, or something, of peace, being that my training, skill, and expertise is based in combat.” Ny contemplates what this is supposed to mean and how close to being right he may be. “Therass, would this be correct?”

Rift sits down next to Therass on the ground. “Perhaps more reflection on these things is needed. Is it wise for us to continue to seek out the sage in the city? Knowing that you are better and that your words are as you spoke them. Perhaps our quests should instead be finding what our equal selves are and ascertaining their opposites.”

[Benji]

Therrass will hold up one hand, as is asking for silence, and then tilt his head again, listening to that silent voice. “Yes. Yes. Very well. My friends, I am sorry, but I have not been granted clearance to illuminate your minds at this point. Onwards!” He will then stand up and after swaying for a while, promptly fall face down on the ground. “Ow... Er... A little help here? Hehehe...”

Tagrel sniffs the air and looks around quizzically, trying to determine the location of whoever's giving Therass instructions.

Since his senses to extend to voices in people's head, I assume he finds nothing

 

Unable to find anyone, he gives up and helps Therass to his feet.
