Carter listens to what Father Zantus has to say about the evidence left at the scene. Afterwards, he asks his companions who remain within the mill about what to ask the unfortunate dead woman.

[talk]I am not sure - there is a high probability that the killer was undead - so asking what killed her might not reveal much else. How about if we asked her something in the lines of <<tell us information that would help us locate your killer>> ... perhaps she would provide us with with something useful...?[/talk] Mak comments.

Since you knew the attacker to most likely be undead, asking the spirit this would likely waste your time. You're also assuming she would know the difference.
The spell I'll be using is Speak with Dead. The spell itself is pretty straight forward, but we're dealing with spirits. Anything you may ask know that the answer is limited to what was known in life, prior to death, and not all the answers you get should be expected to be direct and straight forward.
Keeping your questions to yes or no answers might be your best service

Having my fair share of investigations, I'd have to say yes Carter. If any two questions had most importance, those two would my choice.

Father Zantus considers and then concedes. He informs that it will take a bit of time to set up, but once under way, the girls spirit will be here for a brief time. Its ten minutes of preparations and prayer, with the girls head and bust placed in the center of all gathered. Eerily, the face begins to flex and the eyelids open revealing milky white eyes. The eyes move from one to another taking in those in front of her. Father Zantus asks the first question and she affirms that her killer was a resident of Sandpoint. He asks the second and she affirms her killer was male. At that point Ven bursts through the the door and into the space you occupy, dragging with him two of the guards attempting to restraining him. Ven's daughter looks her father and the corners of her mouth rise to form a smile then her face slackens and returns to death.

It may not seem much, but what more did you have before this.

Durmisht's search outside eventually leads him to the far shore where he notes that something had lingered here for some time. All signs indicate bipedal and human like. He also notices a strong smell of rot in the muddy foot prints. What ever this being is, it lingered here watching the mill and waiting.

He sighs, not convinced how helpful the information really is.

Carter Jenkins pauses for a moment, trying to appear sympathetic and sorrowful before going to speak with the father of the murdered girl. Carter moves to where Ven Vinder is being restrained and puts himself between the man and Katrine's body. [talk]Mister Vinder ... please accept our condolences. And our apologies, too. We have been asked to help find the creature that did this to your daughter.[/talk]

[talk]We asked Father Zantus to examine some things here and, since he could, ask some questions of your daughter. We wish to catch the killer as quickly as possible so that justice can be done. What can you tell us of your daughter and Harker?[/talk]

Carter is trying to be as conciliatory as possible with the father of the dead girl.

Ven looks to Carter and after a brief glance to his daughter again responds with a shrug and shake of his head.

I knew nothing of this. Had I known, I would not have approved his courting my daughter. Find her killer. Find whoever it may be and bring the sum to me.

His last words trail off with a tone of anguish, revenge, and hatred.

Once Ven Vinder has left, Carter turns to his companions and motions for them to come together. [whisper]I think that we're done here unless anyone has an idea that we haven't explored. From here, I'd suggest going to talk to Ibor Thorn, the man who discovered the bodies. The Sheriff has him locked up but I think that we have permission to talk to him.[/whisper]

[whisper]Beyond that, I couldn't recall anything about the mark on the body. Is there someone in town who may know something about it? If none of us can recall, maybe the Sheriff point us in the right direction.[/whisper]

[whisper]Then, finally, ask the Sheriff about the first three murders. He told us before that the surviving guard is confined to an asylum near here so we may wish to go there to learn what we can. Any suggestions?[/whisper]

This way we can find out what each knows and compare notes. We can meet at Ameiko's in two hours and plan where to go from there. I'd rather talk to Thorn myself. If Vi can think of anyone who might know, she'll lead a group to go talk to them. Otherwise, she'll volunteer to be part of the group talking to Ibor Thorn (providing the bluff and intimidate; if diplomacy is needed, she'd probably just use charm person instead).

[ooc]I just double-checked the copy from on here and what Admin said is true. With Rage deactivated he has a Bluff +2, Diplomacy +2, Heal+1, Intimidate +14, and Sense Motive +1.[/ooc]

[ooc]Yes, I found that turning off the rage all went to normal. I would have posted sooner, but I had computer issues. Once I have who wishes to be where for questioning I'll put you there, in two separate threads. Giving me a "it does not matter which group" will not satisfy me. Please pick a group and know that Hemlock and Zantus will not be present. You will be granted an unused office at the garrison for collecting evidence and notes as well as to discuss and report findings and status. The Mayor and Sheriff will expect you to lead with this on your own, relying on them only when their support is unavoidable.[/ooc]

It's about a few miles distant. Just follow the Lost Coast Road south to Cougar Creek and follow the creek to Ashen Rise. You'll see the sanatorium before you can reach the creek's head.
