Character Creation

Post by patransom »

Here are the basics:

Contradicting my previous post, I'd like everyone to start at 5th level, not 6th. With 10 players, it will keep the starting challenge level a little more balanced.

Ability Scores:
Choose one of the following methods:
(a) Use a 30-point buy, as per the DMG (and as set up for you on the customize sheet)

(b) Ask me to roll for you using the standard 4d6, drop the lowest die method, you distribute as desired

(c) Ask me to roll for you using the "organic character" method in the DMG: 4d6 drop the lowest die, but they are fixed in the order rolled (STR, DEX, etc.), you can then ask me to reroll any one score of your choice, and switch any two scores. (I love this method, because it makes for such interesting characters)

If you choose (b) or (c) and don't like what you get, I'll reroll all the scores once and you are stuck with the second set. You can't go back to the point buy.

Classes: Any of the standard classes, plus those from the Complete series. No psionics (sorry). Other classes might be OK, too, upon approval.

Races: Any of the standard races. Others might be OK upon approval.

Alignment: Good and neutral preferred. Evil upon approval.

Hit Points: Full at first level, 75% at each level thereafter (alternating 7 and 8 if you are d10 hit dice).

Equipment: Spent 9,000 gp on equipment from the PHB and DMG, including magic items within reason. Unusual equipment may be OK, upon approval. Unusual items may be given to you at the start, as well, depending on background.

Deities: see separate post, soon to come.

Background: I'd like a little background on each character, as long or as short as you like. The more detailed and interesting it is, the more likely I am to give you some extra goodies. See the setting post, soon to come, for more info on appropriate backgrounds.

I'd like mcs files and backgrounds from each of you by this time next week, so that we can get started the following week.

Also, if players want to post to this thread with an indication of what type of character they might play (assuming you don't want to keep it secret), please go ahead. Might help others plan their characters.

A middle-aged human noble who loves to read, Oldin of the Sargash family has been running a small congregation within the heirarchy of the Seker church. For some unknown reason, he left the congregation to the guidance of a junior member of the clergy in order to heed the call of Shah Leayh. Oldin was the first adventurer to arrive, only a day after the Shah's boy went missing. Since then, he has assisted the Shah in finding other adventurers.

While Oldin has led his congregation for many years, he doesn't mind following the lead of others. In fact, following is where he truly shines. Seker shall always lead him on the correct path.

Esias Lightfoot hails from a small village in the Smoke Mountains along the southwest border of Caithness, where he was an auxiliary scout for military expeditions against the orcs until the new baron decided such ventures were too expensive. Working as a guide and escort for caravans and other groups of travelers across southern Caithness and the northwestern provinces of the Empire since then, he finds himself stranded in Tak Shire when his latest employer was arrested on charges of smuggling before he got paid; considering that human sacrifice is an accepted practice in the Empire, he'd like to get a stake and leave before somebody decides he'd be a likely candidate for such a position. So he's interested in the Shah's offer of employment...

A Brief Background of Rúadhnait

Post by whtknt »

Rúadhnait (ROO-un-it) is a proud Keltic warrior-woman. She was part of a raiding party into Tharbria, but was left for dead after being rendered unconscious during the raid. She has spent the last few weeks wandering the land and has only recently crossed into the Veridian Empire. She desires only to return home, to the lands and people that she knows. Perhaps this Shah can do this, if she is willing to do a favor for him.

Jermain was originally from the borderland between the Viridian Empire and Tharbria from a small hamlet along the Sharryn River. When he was younger he apprenticed with a local priest, but found that his calling was more towards focused studying and controlled magic than the raw potential of his divine counterparts. When he came of age he saved enough money to travel with a caravan to Viridistan, where he managed through sheer luck to be schooled with the College of Mages until they deemed him ready to re-enter as a mage. He now travels the lands of Viridia both in search of knowledge, and those who will help him further his arcane power.

Leenah is a quiet young woman. Often working a manipulative puzzle in her fingers. She has the look of one of noble Viridian blood. Though when questioned she will give away little of her past.
Perearth: Tana Lattia, Monk of the Order of St. Cuthbert, human female
Brave New Peareath: Leenah, Viridian female rogue
TOS 100+: Belladona Southfarthing, halfling rogue/swashbuckler/thief acrobat
