A dabber at the gates
[Since posting seems to have slowed to a crawl, possibly because of the holidays, I'm officially moving this game to a one a week validation schedule. Actually, I've been doing that for the last few weeks anyway, but I figured I'd make it official.
Validations will occur on Friday or Saturday ... this one was delayed due to my actual live game yesterday.
If anyone has an issue with this, let me know via PM or post. Also, if anyone has decided to drop out, or is going to have issues posting for a period, please let me know.
On with the validation ...]
Oldin's flying prayerbook circles around the Dabber, checking it out, relaying its general feelings about the creature back to Oldin.
Oldin says, "It looks harmless enough. If it was a prisoner of the dudes, perhaps we should look after it. Maybe it possesses information about the layout of their base."
Shareev comments, "I am more concerned with what they are doing. They haven't moved and I am certain that guy knew we were here waiting. Oldin, could you do the same trick as you did in the desert, where you caught them in mud."
Jiam, spotting no movement, finally makes his way down and over to the Dabber. Hearing Oldin's comment, he steps forward and helps the Dabber up. "He is not an "it". He is a he." Turning his attention to the Dabber, "Are you OK? Can we get you something to eat? Some water to drink?"
The Dabber smiles at Jiam, "Pehneeteehth is okay. Just tied up." He gestures with his bound hands.
"How can you help us?" Leenah asks the dabber.
Brand nods at Leenah's question, and waits for an answer.
The Dabber responds, "If you untie Pehneethehth, he can help you fight the bad men. Pehneethehth knows lots about their base, and is good with kuhns, too!"

Jiam kneels down and pulls a knife and holds it to his throat. "I was about to untie you, yet I sense you hold back the truth. Now tell me all or you will prove no value at all. I shall end your life instead."
"Hey where did the thief go? He was standing right where that pile of goo is just a second ago... Uh Oh... There wasn't a pile of goo there a second ago. Dang it! We go through thieves like peasants through a dragon."
Esias will be scanning the horizon in the direction from whence the jeef came, looking for any movement.

The dabber looks frightened when Jiam puts his knife to its throat. "Okay, okay. Pehneeteehth is sorry, but he's embarrassed about his past. He used to be a part of bad men's gang. They paid him with shiny things to scout out towns and stuff. But then Pehneeteehth found out the bad men killed and tortured and raped in the towns. Pehneeteehth complained and the bad men made him prisoner. Poor Pehneeteehth!"
[To everyone listening, it sounds like the dabber is telling the truth.]
Scouting the horizon for any movement, Esias doesn't see anything. If the dudes are out there, Thanis can't find them through his scope. [Shareev's device showed the dudes on the other side of town where you crashed the decoy jif. If they're still there, the town would be blocking your view.]

Jiam pauses only a moment, then cuts the Dabber loose from his bonds. "You are free to go as you choose. But if you wish to help us by telling us what you know of them, you may help to end their exploits of terror on these towns." Jiam hands him a flask of water.

Shareev is wary of the Dabber. "Jiam, perhaps you could take him into the town and try to get more information on their base from him. It looks like the jifs are still sitting out there not moving. I am sure Thanis would see them on the horizon if they decided to take to foot and leave the jifs behind."
Shareev talks into his wrist device. "Sam, are you hearing anything on the Dudes air band. We took out their advance escort, but I think he let them know we were waiting."
Shareev will also take another look at the tracking device to see if there has been any movement on it. He will also call Oldin over to show him how to read the device.

"I will take the Dabber into town. If he is willing to talk about what he knows, I will listen." Jiam then turns and helps the Dabber to his feet. "Regardless, you need a meal to decide what to do with your life. Even if you don't choose to help us, you need a hot plate of food, and to be treated with respect for a change." With that, Jiam leads the Dabber back into to town to the inn.

With no immediate sign of the foe, Esias will return to his vantage point atop the building (Square 1711, as shown here) and keep watch for activity, looking both outwards and towards the interior of the town.

Leenah will wait to see on the position of the Dudes before deciding what her best placement is going to be.
Perearth: Tana Lattia, Monk of the Order of St. Cuthbert, human female
Brave New Peareath: Leenah, Viridian female rogue
TOS 100+: Belladona Southfarthing, halfling rogue/swashbuckler/thief acrobat

The Dabber smiles at being released and happily accepts the water. He doesn't respond right away, instead occupied with stretching out his arms and taking a long drink
Brand wonders what is taking the Dude's so long. "Shareev, do you think they would abandon their vehicles and try to ambush us on foot? Would they abandon their chance for retreat?"
Shareev is wary of the Dabber. "Jiam, perhaps you could take him into the town and try to get more information on their base from him. It looks like the jifs are still sitting out there not moving. Oldin heads over to learn about the tracking device. "Very interesting. I should like to learn more about this one day."
Sam replies, "Yes, they've been talking up a storm. Mostly getting instructions from their base. Sounds like they've guessed you took out their scout, but they don't seem too concerned about it. They found an abandoned jif … I guess you put it there … and are trying to get it moving again. After that they're being told to return to 'ready station,' whatever that means …"
[It's easy for Oldin to understand what the lights on the device mean. If you want to teach him how to operate it -- zoom in and out and read the displays that indicate distance and compass direction -- that will take a few minutes…]

The Dabber gets up and follows Jiam with a smile, "Pehneeteehth will help, but you are right, nice human -- food would be good first. What is your name?"
While Esias returns to his vantage point atop the building and Leenah waits, Thanis circles around to get a vantage point on the Dudes. Aeless creeps around along the fenceline. Ruadhnait does nothing.
[The map below shows where Thanis and Aeless are, relative to the rest of you, the town, and the Dudes. One square = 200 feet! Thanis can see the Dudes through his scope, and can make out the following: they appear to have parked their jifs and are moving around your decoy jif, doing something. Aeless can't see any details yet, except that there's something other than just wasteland over there: objects and something moving.
Remember that the rest of you don't know what Thanis and Aeless are seeing, unless they shout it to you … maybe some more of those two way wrist hoomauneeheethers would be useful, eh?
Jiam, I will start a separate thread for you taking Pehneeteehth to the inn]

Seeing the dudes jifs all appear to be stationary and Sam seems to believe they are not coming directly to us, Shareev will call out to Thanis.
"Thanis, come get the hoomauneeheether."
Turning to Oldin and the others, "I think perhaps we should head into the town real quick. We can check our wounds and stop in with Sam. Thanis should be able to use the hoomauneeheether to let Sam know what is going on and Oldin can check on the boy/"

Thanis, moves back the direction he came from so he is out of view of the dudes, then heads toward Shareev. cant run in guille suit.
"hey fellas, looks like they are doing something at teh jif we sent off to the other side of town, cant tell what though. So we have another hoomauneeheether? that would be handy.
What was the deal with the Dabber? where'd he go?"

"We just have the one Thanis, but I would rather have your sharp eyes out here while we go into the town. I will see if we can get Sam to hook us up with some more. Just take it and keep Sam informed. As far as the dabber, Jiam took it inside to talk to it. Hopefully it can provide us with more informatin about the dudes home base"
Esias will continue to scan the surrounding area from his vantage point. In the event that things start developing, he will join the main group of the party.
OOC: I have to go out of town Tuesday thru Friday, so I probably won't be able to get back to the TOS Forum until Saturday.

To clarify: I have Thanis remaining at the gates with the hoomauneeheether; Esias staying atop a building just inside the gates; Oldin trotting toward Sams, followed by Shareev, Leenah, and Brand. Jiam's already at the inn with the Dabber.
How about Aeless and Ruadhnait? Staying here or following to Sam's?
Those of you waiting at the gates can post what you do here ... positions or what have you ... I'll start a new thread for those going to Sam's ..
As a note, there might not be a validation next week. I'll be out of town and it will depend on how soon I get back on Saturday.
