Character Creation

Thryn, the port city, now under the potential of being in ruin by the massive amounts of problems the are having, has called upon groups of people to fix the problems that are plaguing them in hopes of becoming the once great city it was.

Character Creation

Post by BusyCowboy » Thu Jan 15, 2009 5:59 pm

Okay, since it's a base level 1 game, obviously we need to go standard from the books that I had listed (reference). Stats are rolled as per 4d6 drop lowest, standard gold for level 1 for your class.

I guess you could use the invisible castle for rolls. I'm still learning it myself, so just thought I would make it an open option.

If you use Invisible Castle (you need to register - it's free!), here is how:

Character Name: [CharacterName]
Campaign Name: Song of Thryn on TOS+ Forum
Number of Rolls: 6
Dice: 4d6.takeHighest(3)
Note: Rolls for the Creation of [CharacterName]

Then, once you click on Roll the Dice, you will get a LINK at the bottom called BBCODE. Copy the code that follows that, and paste it back in your Post here on the forum.

Starting stats: (4d6.takeHighest(3)=13, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=16, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=9, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=8, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=14, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=13)
Starting gold: (2d4=3) (Multiplied by 10 = 30)

13 - Intelligence
16 - Wisdom
9 - Strength
8 - Charisma
14 - Constitution
13 - Dexterity

Tirrin "Tir" Kindralith: Male Aventi Druid.

***

Do you want backgrounds now? Is everything I've done so far okay? Bit disappointed with the stats and money, but it'll work out :D

Looks good.

As for backgrounds, probably just a paragraph or two should suffice. :)

Brash Waterschild - Hadozee Swashbuckler - Former sailor aboard the Lady of the Sea

Stats (unmodified by race)
[6,4,4]= (14) ; [6,6,4] = (16) ; [6,5,3] = (14) ; [6,4,3] = (13) ; [6,5,5] = (16) ; [5,4,3] = (12)
Str: 14
Dex: 16
Con: 14
Int: 16
Wis: 13
Cha: 12

Starting Gold:
6d4 → [4,1,4,4,1,2] = (16)
Brash grew up on the docks of Thryn. As a child, he would watch the ships coming in and leaving the port. He began learning seamanship during his teen years while he worked on the docks, unloading ships, learning knots from the sailors and listening to their stories on the sea.

During his twentieth year, he signed aboard the crew of the Lady of the Sea. This is when he took the name Waterschild, in honor of his time on the ship. He learned how to work the sails and spent a year aboard ship before returning to port in Thryn once more. He took a leave of the ship to take care of his ailing father who could no longer care for himself.

Three months passed by before his father passed on. Brash has been waiting another six months, knowing that in thre more months the Lady of the Sea will return and he can once again join her crew and continue his adventures on the sea.

Now with the recent disappearance of ships and strange storms off the coasts, Brash is unsure whether his Lady will return or not.

I'm still working on my racial stuff, I'm planning on a Shoal Halfling Spirit Shaman.
Here's the basic character concept (based on an old Gurps character actually):
"Cooky" has been (or has until recently) a cook/doctor on a ship for a few years now. They originally picked him up from his island home where he had been apprentice to the tribe's shaman. Unfortunately for Cooky, while he had been out on his Spirit Quest to finalize his full status as Shaman, there was a bit of tribal warfare (as happened between island tribes in that part of the world) and he was the only survivor of his island. He was a bit of a sight, being a rather savage halfling, dressed in feathers and grass, face painted, teeth filed to points, various fetishes hanging from thongs and tied into his hair. He did understand the common tongue in a basic way, since ships had stopped at the island occasionally for resupply and trade. The captain decided to be merciful and take the lad on board, where he soon became something of a ship's mascot. He showed talent at cooking and at some strange magics, but he had some less than savory habits. On the first ship to ship combat he was involved in, he cut out the heart of a man he killed, and ate it on the spot, grinning as the blood dripped down his chin. He seemed convinced this would give him strength and wisdom. It took some time, but the captain managed to break him of this practice, and over time he learned Common, and eventually became a valued (and more civilized) member of the crew as the cook and doctor. He still has one carryover habit from his older days: He grows herbs to season the food with, in little pots. One of them is rather...aromatic, and he puts a tiny bit in all his pots of stew, to keep the crew calm and happy. It's also good for smoking, or so he claims. His primary weapon is a large cleaver, secondary is a large kitchen knife (hand axe and dagger).

As a Shoal Halfling he would be amphibious, but not have the climb bonus that regular halflings have (which is handy on ship), so I'm not that hard wedded to the racial idea. I may just wimp out and make him a regular halfling.

Ok, here we go. Basic stat rolls
STR 10, DEX 11, CON 13, INT 15, WIS 16, CHA 15

Modified for race that becomes:Str 8, Dx 12, Con 13, Int 15, Wis 16, Cha 15.

HP: 9 (got an error result on the Invis Castle die roller for this for some odd reason. Just rolled on my downloaded program)

I uploaded my character.

Hopefully I'm not too late to sign up ?
I'm still quite new to D&D and never done PbP before but eager and fast to learn.
If I still have time then here's my stats as rolled by Invisible Castle....

STR 16, DEX 15, CON 15, INT 13, WIS 14, CHA 10

note: For some reason the Invisible Castle site kept crashing when getting results but when looking back it said I'd rolled 3 times so I did a completely new name so to be able to take the first set of rolled stats.

If you could let me know if there's still room, and if ok I'll assign these stats to a class / race, etc...

Cool, I'm going to create a Seacliff Dwarf but as I don't have the Stormwrack source book I just want to clarify that they are the same as "core" dwarves but they lose the +1 attack vs goblinoids and gain +2 to swim ?

Well, they ARE aquatic-type dwarves so therefore I would be surprised if they didn't get the swim bonus. I don't think they also deal much with goblinoids.

Here's the full text on them:

Most dwarves prefer to have as little to do with the ocean
as possible, whether that means living beside, upon, or
certainly within it. Nonetheless, some regard the open
sea with incredible fascination. These rare few, referred
to as “salt beards” by other dwarves, take to shipboard
life as readily as any human or hadozee. They are expert
armorers, weaponeers, and engineers, and their services
are highly sought after by many captains.
SEACLIFF DWARVES
Some clans of dwarves settled not in the mountain delves
favored by most of their race but in the tall, impregnable
cliffs that overlook the sea. These seacliff dwarves are
considered by other dwarves to all be salt beards, though
in truth most of them prefer the safety and security of
their subterranean homes as much as any other dwarf. The
difference is that those rare few among them who would
be salt beards don’t have far to go.
All seacliff dwarves are good swimmers, as behooves
folk whose lower passages can fill with seawater during
major storms. Living areas and the like are always situated
well above even the highest such waterline.
Seacliff dwarves are identical to the dwarves described
in the Player’s Handbook, except as noted below.
• Strong Swimmers: Seacliff dwarves gain a +2 racial
bonus on Swim checks. Additionally, a seacliff dwarf
doubles his Constitution score for the purposes of
determining how long he can hold his breath before he
must begin making checks against suffocation (see the
Dungeon Master’s Guide, page 304 for details on holding
one’s breath).
• Seacliff dwarves do not gain the +1 racial bonus to hit
orcs and goblinoids that most dwarves do, since they
have not encountered these creatures nearly as often
as their mountain-dwelling cousins.

Thx all for the info.

Here's my character...

Starting Gold (6d4*10=) 140

Thoric has always found it hard to make good friends, primarily due to his gruff demeanour.
This, combined with the fact that he seems to get bored easily and hence is often travelling, has made him into somewhat of a mercenary - not stopping anywhere too long before moving on to make some more coin.

If Thoric did belong anywhere it would have to be the seas and oceans, vast expanses of everchanging chaos that seem to match and suit his personality - it would take a powerful magic indeed to tame the seas and Thoric likes to think the same about himself.

Travelling close to the coast Thoric felt his stomach grumble as he stopped to read a signpost, he had been moving for several days without sign of civilisation and he hadn't anything to eat except dry rations - rabbit or better yet, venison, all washed down with several tankards of ale - this is what Thoric craved, and with that thought spurring him on he turned to the direction the signpost pointed and headed off towards Port Thryn.
