WHITEFANG BAY CROSSING

Post by admin »

OUT OF CHARACTER
Reminder: Each PC has ONE Hero Point available to him!

Sled #1: (Leading)
Driver: Mazer (Champion) Exploration Activity: SEARCH
Passenger: Siril (Ranger) Exploration Activity: TRACK

Sled #2: (Following)
Driver Falas (Rogue) Exploration Activity: INVESTIGATE
Passenger: Van (Cleric) Exploration Activity: SEARCH

Mazer and Siril take the lead with their dog-pulled sled, expertly guiding the team across the frozen expanse of Whitefang Bay. Falas and Van follow closely, their sled gliding smoothly over the ice. The dogs prove to be skilled and efficient, making good progress as the village of Aaminiut gradually fades from sight.

As the companions venture farther into the vastness of the bay, they notice that the frozen surface is not as uniform as one might expect. Underneath the ice, strong currents have caused certain areas to rise, creating sizable ice mounds, towering at least twice the height of a human. The sky is partially overcast, preventing the glaring sun from impeding their journey, and they can gaze across the stark white landscape without discomfort.

The trail they are following appears distinct and relatively easy to follow at first. However, Siril knows that maintaining focus on the tracks is crucial, given the sled's swift speed. As an experienced tracker, Siril is usually accustomed to moving at a slower pace to scrutinize the terrain thoroughly. Tracking at sled speed proves to be quite a challenge, but he remains determined to keep a keen eye on the trail.

The frozen bay seems eerily silent, save for the rhythmic sounds of the sled runners gliding over the ice and the soft panting of the dogs as they pull their loads. The companions are enveloped in a serene and otherworldly atmosphere, accompanied only by the whispers of the chilling wind that whips across the icy landscape.

As an hour passes, the adventurers continue onward, vigilant in their tracking efforts, determined to uncover the mystery behind the elusive beast. The vastness of the Whitefang Bay stretches out before them, an enigmatic and foreboding realm, concealing secrets that only time and perseverance will unveil...

Even though Falas is trailing behind, his keen elven eyes don't miss a beat. Suddenly, he spots something suspicious ahead, a peculiar patch of ice directly in front of Mazer's sled. With urgency in his voice, he shouts a warning to his companion, prompting Mazer to take swift action. Reacting quickly, Mazer expertly maneuvers the dog team southward, skillfully avoiding the treacherous area.

As the sleds come to a halt, the companions gather to investigate the ice that nearly spelled disaster. Falas carefully examines the thin, fragile-looking ice to the east and confirms his suspicion – it is incredibly weak and unstable. Even a nimble Goblin would be unable to traverse this perilous ice without breaking through and plunging into the freezing waters below. Falas realizes that if he hadn't raised the alarm and if Mazer hadn't acted swiftly, the leading sled would have met a disastrous fate.

It becomes evident as they discuss the situation that this was no mere coincidence. The tracks they've been following were deliberately aimed at this vulnerable spot on the ice, as if someone had set a trap for them. The unsettling realization dawns upon the companions that their quarry, the so-called 'beast,' may be more cunning and malevolent than they initially thought.

Cautious and vigilant, the companions press on, their minds now alert to the possibility of more dangers lurking ahead. The snowy landscape, once perceived as serene and benign, now seems to conceal a sinister force. The mysteries of Whitefang Bay deepen as the companions continue their journey, determined to uncover the truth behind this thieving creature and the traps it has set in their path.

Mazer looks for tracks to refollow. A lot more carefully and if he can...a little slower.

As Mazer's keen eyes catch sight of an alternate trail cunningly concealed from view. Grateful for the discovery, the companions resume their journey, cautiously navigating the new path on their sleds. With their senses heightened after the close call with the trap, they proceed carefully, determined not to be caught off guard again.

The trail leads them through the breathtaking expanse of Whitefang Bay, where the snowy landscape stretches endlessly before them. Despite the cold and the challenge of the terrain, the companions make remarkable progress on their sleds. The icy winds whip around them, but they push forward with unwavering resolve.

Finally, they arrive at a sight that both intrigues and unnerves them – an icy cavern nestled within a massive upthrust of ice rising from the center of Whitefang Bay. The cavern's entrance appears almost ethereal, its icy facade shimmering in the diffused light. The companions exchange cautious glances, realizing that they have found the potential lair of the enigmatic creature.

The atmosphere is filled with a sense of mystery and anticipation as they prepare to venture into the icy cavern. What secrets lie hidden within its frosty walls? What challenges and dangers await them in the heart of this frozen domain? With a shared determination, the companions take a deep breath and step forward, ready to confront whatever lies ahead in their quest to uncover the truth behind the elusive serpent creature.

Falas tells the group he will be in stealth mode [avoid notice] which means he moves half speed, while he also is checking for traps [given its already tried a trap once already]

Siril has no problem if a light spell is used, if they need it.

Assuming they are now getting off the sleds, he'll start Scouting ahead.
You scout ahead and behind the group to watch danger, moving at half speed. At the start of the next encounter, every creature in your party gains a +1 circumstance bonus to their initiative rolls.

Pf2 says I can't do both. Sneak and search for traps ... I would like to sneak/avoid notice. Anyone got a decent perception want to search for traps? [Likely there is traps here. ]

Seems i needed to take a feat to sneak and search for traps at same time...can consider to take that at level 2 rogue
