While the rest of the party waits, Prost moves to one of the other doors and checks it for traps. He doesn't find any.

Prost being Prost, doesn’t trust the doppelgänger. Hey, you said all the doors are trapped . I just checked one, it’s not trapped . You wouldn’t be lying to us would you? Prost doesn’t do anything else, he just follows, leery of the doppelgänger.

Pat, trap sense, my understanding of goes off within 10 feet of a trap since all the doors are going to be within 5 feet of Prost, or 10 at the most, do you roll and tell me if I sense the doors trapped or does it require an action on my part?

Thanks for reminding me about that feature! I forgot about it. I'll roll and alert you if spot anything. You didn't notice any traps anywhere in this half of the hallway.

 

Some of the doors are definitely trapped, says the doppelganger, I just don't remember which ones.

Unless otherwise instructed, the doppelganger will move to the door at 1715 and open it. I'll make a new post with the results of that this weekend, if no one objects before then

Prost comments I believe he may mean the later… perhaps I should move more to the front since I’m more likely to spot any trap. Prost offers to move to the front…to 1414

As he moves to the front of the marching order, Prost comments I believe he may mean the latter… perhaps I should move more to the front since I’m more likely to spot any trap.

Yes, says the doppelganger, Dangerous traps, not just alarms. He leads the group to the door at 1715. Prost does not notice any traps as the group advances.

The doppelganger opens the door to an oddly shaped bedroom with two beds (1718 and 1818), a washbasin, a large wardrobe (1816), and a full-length mirror (at what would be 2015 where I'm showing a door). That mirror over there is an illusion, says the doppelganger, There's a door behind it. It's not trapped and the boss' chambers are a just a little ways farther beyond.

He waits to see if the group has any questions or instructions for him...

Prost advances towards the double doors at the end of the hall, then leaps back as he feels the floor begin to tilt underneath him. Seems like there's a cleverly hidden pit trap at the end of the hall that he failed to spot!

I included the +3 to perception and Prost didn't spot the pit. It was indeed very cleverly hidden!

 

The doppelganger comments, Like I said. Traps. The right way to go is through the illusionary mirror over here.

Worrel shakes the rope gently before saying, Lead on, then.

Worrel would normally feel better with his sword in hand but, at the moment, keeping hold of the doppelganger seems like a better option.

Prost steps into the room, past the doppelganger. He doesn't spot any traps. It appears to be an ordinary bedroom.

The doppelganger leads the party into the room, walks up to the mirror, and steps right through it. It does indeed seem to be an illusion.

Worrel feels a gentle tug on the rope. It feels like the doppelganger is attempting to continue further to the southeast on the other side of the mirror.

I've just now realized I've got Worrel still in gaseous form, but also holding the doppelganger's rope, which doesn't actually work, since a creature in gaseous form can't manipulate objects.

Should we say that Worrel dismissed the gaseous form and picked the rope back up after crossing the beams? Or that he's till gaseous and Cyrius is holding the rope (as per here)?

Gaseous form is 2 minutes/level, so it started at 10 minutes. I'm still showing 3.9 minutes remaining.

Prost makes a quick check of room before stepping through(spending enough time, checking to allow time to pass with Cyrius on the other side of the mirror)…ie only stepping though if he doesn’t spot anything of interest, and/or if he hears anything a foot on the other side of the mirror

Cyrius follows the doppelganger through the mirror, followed by Fluffy, Tex, Ardrea, and Lola. Worrel drifts along, rising in the air so that he is hovering over his companions.

Prost delays to check for anything of interest in the bedroom. He has time to open the wardrobe and notice that there are a variety of expensive-looking outfits hanging inside before things start happening on the other side of the mirror...

The doppelganger leads the party towards the center of an octagonal room that has no obvious exits. The ceiling is hidden by thick silvery spider webs 30 feet above the floor. The doppelganger suddenly calls out, help! I am a prisoner! These intruders would assault our home!

Tex and Lola spot four bloated, human-sized spiders hiding amongst the webs above. Each of them has a hunchbacked body and a gleam of intelligence in its multiple eyes. No one else sees them in time...

SURPRISE ROUND BEGINS!

The first spider (A1) remains up among the webs and casts a spell that has no effect at all.

It was a sleep spell. Only Fluffy had low enough HD to be effected and he made the save.
The other three spiders use their webs to break their fall as they descend from the ceiling like angry falling leaves. A2 and A3 slam into Cyrius from above [14 hp damage total, but the spiders, respectively, take 3 and 5 hp damage themselves. A4 crashes into Tex with a crunching sound 6 hp damage, but the spider also takes 6 hp]

The doppelganger leans all its weight into the rope, attempting to rip it from Cyrius' grasp. Cyrius holds fast.

Tex and Lola will go now in the surprise round. Then the enemies will go again, then everyone will get to act in initiative order.
