Judges:
If you want to be a judge, you CANNOT judge an arena fight you are in and MUST remain neutral about all. You must participate in at least 2 games or have DM'd 2 games. I am not worried about other specifics except that you MUST KNOW THE RULES of the books that the character is playing from, or at least have them! If you have questions, feel free to ask other judges, however the final decision rests on YOU.
Remember that just like you, these players play the game as well and can get upset if a ruling can be deemed wrong, however, if this happens, you can escalate it to me for final say OR you can ask for a judges ruling.
Either way, just PM me for an application and you will be sent one.

This sounds like a very fun idea. You have it very well thought out.
Questions:
Who approves character builds?
If it is you, who will approve your characters?
Are you allowing all books? Custom classes? Variants?
How about Action Points?
How are you handling the leadership feat?
I would like to participate. Heck, if you need someone to help out while you are involved in a match I would be willing to help out there too.

I had a though about this... IC allows us to limit cheating.. but what about a person trying to cheat by 'rolling' a LOT of PCs (i.e. using different names), then only keeping the one that god the BEST dice result? would it be possible for someone to 'cheat' like that ?BusyCowboy wrote:Each gladiator is rolled using the 5d6 method, dropping the lowest two and assigning as per normal. All stats are to be rolled using the Invisible Castle. Here is about what you need to do:
Name: Gladiator Name
Campaign Name: (Name of your school) AoA Gladiators
Type of stats: d20
Dice: 5d6.minroll(2).takeHighest(3)

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
Yes, it IS very much so possible, but no dice roller is fool-proof on such, at least unless someone can think of a way to come up with a way for them not to be able to?
AMENDMENT:
When rolling your character, just put in AoA School
NOTHING else on that part please.

Whoa. Sounds really thought out. Kudos!
If we create a character, what do we do with them? PM them to you? Post them?

You can do either/or when it comes to posting your characters. They will be posted anyway, so why not go ahead and just PM them to me and once I get other parts set up, I will put them in there.

BusyCowboy, how about giving us an answer to this?klakxor wrote:This sounds like a very fun idea. You have it very well thought out.

Also, it may be posted elsewhere, but what's the starting wealth/equipment?

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
Ooops, sorry, didn't see that:
1. I will either deny or approve all character builds, later on, if there are more and more, judges will assist with this before they get to me.
2. I follow the same guidelines as you, however I will allow another to approve my builds if someone wants to.
3. No, I added the books allowed into the original posting. No custom classes, but yes, variants are allowed from the books.
4. No use of Action Points
5. There really is no use for the leadership feat that I have seen. If your class allows you a companion, then you get one when your class allows.
Another couple of things:
Wealth/Equipment: Base per your class selection
HP: Max HP at first level.

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
Oh, I just thought of a few more questions: If a race has a level adjustment, could one take it as a racial class? For instance, the Thri-Kreen in Expanded Psionics Handbook has 2 racial hit dice and a +2 level adjustment, but WotC has created the Racial Class in Complete Psionic (pp 149-151). Since Complete Psionic is one of the allowed books, and the thri-kreen would start as an ECL +0, then simply gain "non-HD" levels, would that be acceptable?
What about the Elan? It is an Aberration. According to the Rules of the Game articles, only Humanoid creatures of one HD drop their first HD when gaining class levels. Since the Elan is not a Humanoid, would it be required to have one HD of Aberration before it is allowed to take its first level in a class? Most players and DMs seem to revert to the old 3.0 ruling on this matter (any 1-HD creature, regardless of type, drops its racial HD when gaining class levels), with only a few accepting the new ruling, although I wouldn't mind either way.

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
The rules state that no gladiator may have an LA (regardless) unless they have at least retired one Level 20 gladiator and that then they only can have a max of +1 LA for such (2 Gladiators retired = +2 LA) etc...

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
That's just it, the racial classes REMOVE the level adjustment from races. Instead, you level up in your race rather than using the racial hit dice + level adjustments. A thri-kreen using the racial class is a +0 level adjustment race. He then may take four levels of Thri-Kreen (a class found in Complete Psionic, a valid resource). Hence the question. If you are saying that a racial class is treated as though it were a level adjustment race, that is a different story . I had no intention of playing a thri-kreen. I was just wondering .
Also, what about the Elan? They are a +0 level adjustment race, and in fact a base race. Would they keep their one racial hit die?

Re: [Playtest] Arena of Ages
Elans are the special case when it comes down to it. Yes I know about the 1HD that they do get, but they are a base class with a +0 LA, so therefore they do follow the rules, regardless of the fact that they get the HD
