LoF: The Carrion King; Day Three

The wishes unleashed over the ages by two genies have warped the Pale Mountain region to keep alive both a terrible beast and a heroic protector. These wishes have subtly warped the weave of the world to put a handful of adventurers on a trail to Kelmarane. It is these adventurers who will tread the path of fate at its most treacherous juncture, and it is they who will ultimately chart the course of history.

Erin looks at Ox...
I haven't seen other living things inside. i.... admit, i was occupied with the beast, so i am not 100% sure, but if i was a gnoll i would not go near it.
Erin looks at the others..."so what now? do we attack it? who knows how powerfull it is... ? "

Simi draws his sword, hefts his shield and says, Lets get it done and get out of here, hopefully before they realize their boar is dead. He walks toward the door (which i assume is near A13), and waits for everyone else.

He's ready to go.

yeah, let's attack this thing head on: someone opens the Door, and Simi and I charge in, trying to surprise that thing...

A little disappointed at not having his curiosity satified, Kroft goes along with the group's decision. He pulls out his blade and gets in position behind Ox and Simi, ready to move in after their initial charge.

By Erin's indication, the creature is near the middle of this building.
Erin sets the trigger. As quietly as possible, you all make it to the door and Erin makes ready to open. It's a large barn-type of door and looks easy enough to push open. With everyone set, Erin is ready to push in, and hold back the large door so it does not swing back against her companions.

Ox can do a half-charge (std action as opposed to a full round action) at 20' distance only in the surprise round. Is the creature further away than 20' from Ox? This is not visible on the Map.

IF the creature is further away than 20', Ox will move 20' in the Building toward the creature.

Kroft attempts a tactical maneuver.

    Round 1
  1. Creature <--- At Bat (Knowledge (arcana) to identify, DC 15)
  2. Laron Jilliet <--- At Bat
  3. Erin Ookapala <--- At Bat
  4. Ox <--- At Bat
  5. Elisandra <--- At Bat
  6. Simi <--- At Bat
  7. Kroft Gypsum <--- At Bat
Peryton.png

The sudden opening of the door and intrusion to its lair sets the creature to posture, the half-eaten heart of some creature still in its maw. Caught off guard, the creature leaps into the air briefly and lands some feet back.
With her team mostly in, Erin makes for a corner that has enough shade for her to hide in. From cover of shadow, Erin takes a shot, but seeing this horror is proving more distracting to her than anticipated. Her shot is off.
Ox charges at the creature with all his force, landing a solid hit to the creature, but it seems to him the damage is not as much as it should have been. (Creature, 4 Damage)
Eli joins Ox on the other side just catching the creature in the flank, again not doing as much damage as she thought should have been sustained. (Creature, 7 Damage)
Simi does his best at charging, but with Ox and Eli both there, he has trouble focusing on the target and misses.
 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
Kroft has a full action for Round 1 missing.

    Round 2
  1. Creature <--- At Bat (Knowledge (arcana) to identify, DC 15)
  2. Laron Jilliet <--- At Bat
  3. Erin Ookapala <--- At Bat
  4. Ox <--- At Bat
  5. Elisandra <--- At Bat
  6. Simi <--- At Bat
  7. Kroft Gypsum <--- At Bat
The creature lashes out at Simi, Gore and 2 Hooves Attack/Damage vs Simi, AC-2 from Charge (1d20+8=16, 2d4+3=8, 1d20+5=15, 1d4+1=5, 1d20+5=20, 1d4+1=5) Simi lucks out when he's hit only by one of the creature's hooves. (Simi, 23/28)
    Conditions/Effects:
    • Eirn, 24/25
    • Ox, 31/33
    • Simi, 23/28
    • Creature, 7 Damage
    • Bless, All PCs
 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
If you feel I've made a mistake, please correct. I'm owed an action from Kroft for Round 1 and now Round 2 too. If anyone would have made different actions, please explain. If you're happy with above, then just declare your action as Round 2.

  3. Erin Ookapala <--- At Bat
  4. Ox <--- At Bat
  5. Elisandra <--- At Bat
  6. Simi <--- At Bat
  7. Kroft Gypsum <--- At Bat
The creature lashes out at Simi, Gore and 2 Hooves Attack/Damage vs Simi, AC-2 from Charge (1d20+8=16, 2d4+3=8, 1d20+5=15, 1d4+1=5, 1d20+5=20, 1d4+1=5) Simi lucks out when he's hit only by one of the creature's hooves. (Simi, 23/28)

Laron, agreeable to trapping this thing in the building with them, pulls the large door shut and keeps it shut. Should the creature try to escape, it'll have to get through him.

In mid swing of his battleaxe, the creature contours its body that he know will cause him to miss, Ox adjusts to match and connects. A hit that could have opened a serious wound, instead opens another lesser cut. What is this thing made of? (Creature, 11 damage)
Eli attempts to add more power to her swing, but somehow throws her balance off instead, missing horribly. She gave enough over swing that missing caused her to trip and is now prone. (Eli, Prone)

 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
I forgot that you were trying that before, detect evil, and that it would be always active, right, when not involved in other activities requiring focus? Yes, this thing is quite evil and indeed magical.
On another note, How is Simi getting flanking? Who's he flanking with? Not that it matters, as he still hits the thing.
If detecting evil would have prompted the use of a paladin ability, you can post that with this attack as you would have known already it was evil.
Simi bears down on the creature, encouraged by his team. Simi's longsword slashes into the creature, but does not damage it as much as it should have. (Creature, 14 Damage)

From Round 1 Kroft sweeps in, feeling his skills can add to a more timely end to this abomination, and brings himself into flanking position opposite Simi.
For Round 2 Kroft's rapier is fast and true as it slices into the flank of this thing.
 OUT-OF-CHARACTER:
I'm not sure which way to go with DR on this. Damage would be as follows in one of three ways:
Damage taken 5 = Attack 7 + 3 Crit - 5 DR / Extra Damage 0 = SA 3 - DR 5
Damage taken 8 = Attack 7 + 3 Crit - 5 DR + SA 3
Damage taken 8 = Attack 7 + 3 Crit + SA 3 - 5 DR

Let me know and I'll finalize round 2 and start round 3.

    Conditions/Effects:
    • Eirn, 24/25
    • Ox, 31/33
    • Simi, 23/28
    • Creature, 7 Damage
    • Bless, All PCs

Okay, got the answer I was looking for with Kroft's attack, just waiting on confirmation with SImi's attack before I finalize.

Yes, i didnt think to check the Init order, but was going on Krofts move to N35 for the flank. Didnt realize he went after Simi. Also forgot that Simi activated Detect Evil when outside. either way, he'll activate Smite Evil next time around.

RE: DR, since that is all 1 attack, the damage for that attack is 13, minus DR (5) would be 8.

Sorry about leaving out the round 1 actions.

Round 1:
What ... is ... that?
Double move to get around behind the creature. Should be able to get to N-35 with out AoO.
Round 2:
As he approaches the creature, Kroft's curiosity quickly fades. Now he is determined to remove this unnatural thing from the world. Once in position opposite his companions, he stabs at the creature with his rapier.
Attack (w/ flank and bless); Damage; SA dmg, if appl (1d20+5+2+1=27, 1d6+2=7, 1d6=3)
Crit conf (w/ flank and bless); Damage (1d20+5+2+1=19, 1d6+2=3)
From Round 1 Kroft sweeps in, feeling his skills can add to a more timely end to this abomination, and brings himself into flanking position opposite Simi.
For Round 2 Kroft's rapier is fast and true as it slices into the flank of this thing.

Kroft's hit delivers more damage to this creature. (Creature, 22 Damage)

    Round 3
  1. Creature <--- At Bat (Knowledge (arcana) to identify, DC 15)
  2. Laron Jilliet <--- At Bat
  3. Erin Ookapala <--- At Bat
  4. Ox <--- At Bat
  5. Elisandra <--- At Bat
  6. Simi <--- At Bat
  7. Kroft Gypsum <--- At Bat
The creature leaps into the air provoking opp attacks from Kroft Simi and Ox. In the air, it swoops over Kroft and as it does so, it passes through a beam of light piercing the roof, causing it's shadow to touch him. Kroft feels a sudden chill wash over him. The creature's shadow suddenly shifts form and blends into Kroft's shadow as if replacing it. Dread fills Kroft. The creature then ascends into the rafters and the darkness above. Kroft turns and runs into a corner as if trying to get away from his own shadow. (Kroft, Frightened)
Kroft (with flank), Ox, Simi (with flank) Opp Attack/Damage vs Creature. (1d20+5+2+1=15, 1d6+2=6, 1d20+5+1=14, 2d6+4=14, 1d20+7+1=17, 1d8+3=11) Simi is able to just catch the creature as it leaps into the air while the other two miss. (Creature, 28 Damage)
    Conditions/Effects:
    • Eirn, 24/25
    • Ox, 31/33
    • Simi, 23/28
    • Eli, Prone
    • Creature, 28 Damage
