Eric stays where he is, ready to help haul Marcus out of the water if things get nasty.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    Here's an annoying development: my workplace just added "Games" sites to those banned by the network filter, and this site is defined as a "Games" site. So I can't check in at breaks and lunchtime, just after I get home. I think the object was to block access to things such as online poker and the like, and we poor RPGers just got swept up in the slipstream.

Round 1 Continues

Marcus takes a swing at the elemental with his bare fists. Due to his unfamiliarity with underwater fighting, Marcus misses.

Dr. Alexander moves forward onto the steps, firing his Colt at the elemental in hopes of aiding Marcus. His shot is on target, but the bullet shatters into tiny bits as it passes the surface of the water and the fragments do no damage to the elemental. [This is just saying he missed due to the -2 penalty for shooting through 5 feet of water]

Round 2

Sahid stands back waiting to see what Marcus does. He sees Marcus trying to fight...

Eric stays where he is, ready to help haul Marcus out of the water if things get nasty.

The elemental swats Marcus again with its squishy fists. [another 1 hp damage]

Marcus has firm footing; therefore, his bludgeoning fists are at -2 to attack and half damage. Tex and the doctor are firing through 5 feet of water and, therefore, take a -2 on attack rolls. Note 2: apologies for the map quality. I'm having computer issues.

Marcus swings into the elemental and hits its denser core inflicting a bit of bludgeoning damage.

Bowing to the will of the majority -- pound on the water elemental -- Eric steps to 1215 and takes a poke at the creature with a martial strike.

1d20+4-2 = 6 + 4 - 2 = 8, which presumably misses.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER:    Sorry. It seems klaxkor's lost interest in this game and, to be honest, I haven't been very enthusiastic about it either lately. I will try to get us back on a quick validation schedule so that we can bring this adventure to it's conclusion.

Round 2 Continues

Marcus bops the elemental right in its... uh... element. [Elementals are indeed immune to critical hits; although Marcus' didn't confirm anyway]

Dr. Alexander tries to fire his Colt over Sahid's and Eric's heads into the water. His shot being nearly blind, he misses.

Round 3

Sahid, with a clearer shot, still also misses. He then backs away from the stairs.

Tex takes aim near the glow stick, squeezes off a shot, and misses again. “Damnit! try to get it out of the water!” Tex shouts as he takes a step backwards. “Yes,” the doctor agrees, “Maybe it will be easier to hit if it's out of its element.”

For a third time, the elemental swats Marcus with its squishy fists. [another 1 hp damage]

Marcus continues his experiment, seeing results from his last attempt and encouraged to continue. Repeating last Underwater Unarmed Attack/Damage vs Water Elemental (1d20+2-2=2, 1d4+1=3)
Unfortunately, the density of the water interferes with his attack.

“Haha! I think that got 'im.” Tex squeezes off another round into the water.

As he takes another poke at the elemental, Eric declares, “If we want it to leave the water, we'll have to get out of it ourselves and see if the critter follows. Marcus, get up on the stairs with me, then we'll withdraw and see if it pursues.”

Eric's martial strike: 1d20+4-2 = 9 + 4 - 2 = 11. If that hits (unlikely), damage is (1d4+3)/2 = (3+3)/2 = 3

Marcus continues his experiment, seeing results from his last attempt and encouraged to continue. Unfortunately, the density of the water interferes with his attack.

Dr. Alexander tries again to shoot the elemental. Again, he misses in the chaos of the underwater melee.

Round 4

Sahid's shot is even worse that the doctor's.

As he takes an unsuccessful poke at the elemental, Eric declares, “If we want it to leave the water, we'll have to get out of it ourselves and see if the critter follows. Marcus, get up on the stairs with me, then we'll withdraw and see if it pursues.”

“Haha! I think that got 'im.” Tex declares as he squeezes off another round into the water. Indeed, it does seem Tex "got 'im," since the bullet leaves a large hole in the elemental's blobish mass that does not seem to be repairing itself.

Perhaps disturbed by this new hole in its shape, the elemental is unable to connect with Marcus this round.

Experiment Continued Unarmed Underwater Attack/Damage vs Water Elemental (1d20+2-2=4, 1d4+1=2)

Waiting for Marcus to retreat up the stairs, Eric launches a ferocious strike that almost surely misses.

Eric's latest futile attempt to hit the silly thing: 1d20+4-2 = 2 + 4 - 2 = 4. Would have inflicted (1d4+3)/2 = (4+3)/2 = 3 points of damage.

Still zinging shots right past Eric, Tex lets loose another round.

“Someone grab teh Dr, he probably cant hear you under water.”

Round 4 Continues

Marcus continues to have no luck at the art of underwater combat.

Dr. Alexander, however, fires a miraculously lucky shot that intersects with the water elemental and dissipates it into harmless floating globules that soon merge with the ordinary, inanimate water.

Marcus emerges from the water regain a fresh breath if air. “That was interesting. not only can it be effected by fists, but I never thought bullets would hurt it. I'm ready to try again at crossing through to the other side, or at least seeing how far this goes.” If the others are ready, Marcus will again draw a deep breath and dive under.

“Holy Cow son, you sure are a glutten for punishment, eh? But i guess if you 're going back down there, I'll hold the rope.”

[CGM3]

“I think we should follow the original plan and both of us venture in,” Eric states. “Who'll anchor me?”

With Sahid and Tex playing out the rope, Eric and Marcus each take a deep breath and return to the water. They head east and pass around the narrow wall that's been preventing the group from seeing the whole of the submerged room. Now that they can see more of it, it's pretty clear that this room was a sort of communal bathing area. There are four pillars and a larger central structure composed of tan stone. The surfaces of each have what are obviously ancient shower spigots. It seems that something has blocked off drains (wherever they might be) and these spigots have caused the entire facility to fill with water.

Marcus notes that there appears to be a passageway out of the shower room leading to the east...

Marcus will reach to tap Eric and point to the passage. He will then head for it.

Tex Continues to play out the rope until there is none left, he then gives a little tug on the rope, and will move forward a few steps to give the, more if they need it.

Eric will follow Marcus, though directing his attention to the northern wall (there might be another tunnel.)
