Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Horrified by the tiefling's action, Cyrius points his mind blade rapier at Edgar and growls, "Give it another piece from that poor fellow's body and I'll learn how it likes your fresh-spilled guts! Maybe a dead mortal isn't accorded much respect in the Demon Empires, but in human lands we honor the fallen, and don't see 'em as part of the larder!"

And we're supposed to be putting the remains of a ghost boy to rest? Let's have at least at semblance of common decency, people. Somehow, I rather doubt that anthropophagy is an accepted custom in Rastingdrung. |

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Rice shrugs at Cyrius' comment.
“Let's begin searching the house and see if his family is actually here. Considering that the owlbear was nesting here, I expect they're not. But maybe we might find something else?”

partially registering the threat edgar says “When i first came in here i noticed a pile of bones if thats what your refering to.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“i saw them when i entered, but i was in too much of a hurry to leave to exactly remember where that was. i believe it was over here.” edgar will lead the group to 0512.
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
The bones Edgar saw, as it turns out, are fresh. They are those associated with the tattooed human arm and with the other dead full-sized owlbear. Additional searching of the house turns up the following: thick, sludgy puddles of dried blood and unidentifiable fleshy chunks litter the wooden floor immediately inside the front door. A trail of dried blood leads from there back down the hill toward the empty graves.

“Well. We certainly found why whomever looted the graves ran off in such a hurry, but we've found nothing further to tell us why. We'll need that tattoo to get a better idea of who might have been up to this. Any of you more familiar with local organizations than I am?”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“nah, not realy. never paid much attention to that sort of thing.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“It would appear our grave robbers didn't tarry here,” Cyrius opines, dispelling his mind blade. “I suppose we should search the house more thoroughly, just to be sure, but I suspect we'll wind up tracking 'em after all.”

You have searched the house thoroughly and found all there is to find. No one in the party has any ranks in Knowledge: Local, so you'll have to come up with another way to figure out what that tattoo signifies... |

“That'd be me i s'pose. lemme see what I can get.”
Tex starts concentrating on teh tracks, and begins following the obvious ones, picking up more and more signs of passage.
Follow Tracks (Survival) (1d20+10=30) - That oughta do.
“Yup, I got 'em...” He says as he starts headin off.

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Edgar follows Tex and checks to see if the owlbear is following.
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Tex picks up the wheelbarrow tracks quite easily and begins following them. The rest of the group follows behind. The wheel tracks appear to lead along the trail right back toward Rastingdrung.
As the party proceeds back toward town, the baby owlbear waddles along following Edgar. The small creature is rather slow and clumsy on its feet, but, since the party is moving slowly so that Tex can keep an eye on the tracks, it is able to keep up.
Eventually, the wheelbarrow tracks approach Rastingdrung itself. At this point, however the trail into town becomes a full dirt street created by the passage of mine wagons and other trade. The road is, as usual for this time in early spring, a muddy mess and Tex is no longer able to sort out the wheelbarrow tracks in the muck. All he can conclude is that whoever was pushing it brought the cargo near or straight into town.

“So, who or where do you propose we start with for the tattoo?”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“I dunno, teh Inn maybe. But be discreet, or it could be trouble we dont want yet.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“what do you suppose we do with Jr. here?” edgar motions to the baby owlbear.
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“Find someone to buy him. lets check with the Horse Trader, maybe he knows someone.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“I'd consult the wizard, Allustan Penkawr, about the tattoo first,”Cyrius suggests. “And then Celeste if he draws a blank.”

By "Horse Trader," I assume you mean the Lakeside Stables (number 13 on the map here). If you meant somewhere else, let me know, but I'll assume you stop by the Stables with the owlbear either way, just to cover your bases... |
During a visit to the Lakeside Stables (which are not particularly close to the Lake), Edgar speaks with the owner: Lanch Faraday, a portly half-Ghinoran/half-Elf, who is grumblingly cleaning out stalls around the back. The baby owlbear looks at the horses hungrily, which makes them rather nervous. Lanch seems unconcerned about the creature's effect on his charges, but also is not the least bit interested in purchasing it. He might, however, have some idea about who around town would be interested... [Anyone who desires can make a diplomacy check for gather information to follow up on Lanch's leads about a buyer for the baby owlbear].
A stop at Master Penkawr's house (which is number 18 on the map, by the way) finds him sitting over tea with none other than the mysterious Celeste. Celeste notes Edgar's presence with the group and comments, “So you found your way here, did you? And somehow fell in with other friends of ours in the process? What an odd coincidence.” She gives a rather sly grin and addresses the rest of the party, “Although this demonbrood didn't give me his full story when we met on the trail south of here, I suspect he's got some particular skills that might be of use to you. If you are still taking my advice about being adventurers and tomb explorers, that is...”
Showing Penkawr the tattoo elicits an immediate response. He identifies the symbol as that of Garavin Vesst, a greedy mine manager who branded his employees with it as a badge of status. He explains further, “Vesst was bankrupted by Balabar Smenk years ago, and died early last year. Many of his workers are now Smenk's employees or slaves. The person wearing that tattoo was likely one of Smenk's servants, if he was still in the area after all these years.”
