Marcus keeps watch while Cyrius, Prost, and Tex all successfully stab the grimitch, while giving directions to Lola [19 hp total, including sneak attack].

Lola moves to her left as directed, receiving a stab wound from the grimitch for her trouble [remember it's difficult terrain, so you can't 5 ft step; 12 hp damage from the AoO]. Lola responds by murdering the grimitch very much [crit confirmed, 11 hp].

Like everywhere you've been so far, the entire floor of the cavern is difficult terrain. Ascending or moving around on the rock pile requires a DC10 Acrobatics (balance) check at half speed (DC15 if moving at full speed). From the top of the rock pile, it's a relatively easy (DC15) climb 10 feet up and reach the corners of the ledge at 0227 or 0628.

Worrell picks up his shield and secures it before retrieving his bow. Only then does he clean and sheathe his sword. Once that weapon is secured, the paladin turns towards where the party has come from with an arrow nocked on his bow.

Lola puts her sword away and readies her crossbow and looks up to the ledge for the baddies.

While everyone else readies weapons and/or keeps watch, Prost searches the dead grimich, then climbs the rock pile to search the dead chokers and their surroundings.

Amongst the grimitches possessions, Prost finds the following:

• studded leather armor of very high quality (hint, hint: might be magic)
• 2 daggers of very high quality (hint, hint: might be magic)
• sling with 10 bullets (mundane quality)

She also has a bloodstained burlap sack containing the following:

• the preserved severed head of a female elf
• a wand (hint, hint: almost certainly magic, because who carries around non-magical wands?)
• a pair of fine ivory dice
• 221 gold

Climbing up to the chokers, Prost finds that the creatures have no possessions on them. However, buried in debris pile nearby, he notices a glint of shiny metal. A quick dig amongst the stones turns up the following:

• the gnawed bones of at least two humanoids, likely grimlocks from the shape of the skulls
• a broken morningstar
• a leather necklace set with four rubies
• a cold iron longsword

Marcus determines that the Studded Leather Armor is +1. The wand is a Wand of Cure Light Wounds with 34 charges remaining. The daggers are of masterwork quality, but not magical. Nothing else is magical. So this updates the loot found in this area to:

• studded leather armor +1 (Cyrius)
• 2 medium masterwork daggers = 2 small masterwork short swords (Prost)
• sling
• 10 bullets (Prost)
• the preserved severed head of a female elf
• wand of cure light wounds with 34 charges (Lola or Worrel?)

• Unless someone agrees to carry it, Cyrius will have to leave his old MW chain shirt armor in this area (it will not fit in Prost's haversack); maybe it will still be here when (if) you come back
• I gave the wand of CLW to Lola
• I had Lola transfer 1 crossbow bolt to Prost, in order to keep her at light load
• I have updated everyone's character sheet (it's been almost a year). Except for ammo, potions, spells used, etc., they should be up to date. Please take a look and make sure you agree.

Prost voices concern about trying to scale the rock pile to the ledge and suggests that they return to the tunnel @ 518 and then make there way forward to the rope bridge

In spite of Prost's concerns, Tex and Cyrius make their way up the rock pile and climb up onto the corners of the ledge. As he pulls himself up onto the ledge, Cyrius realizes that it's very dark here -- because the sunrod is down on the floor of the cavern and the ledge overhangs, he can't see anything atop the ledge or to the south. With his darkvision, Tex is not similarly hampered. He can see that a passage leads off the ledge to the south, and rises steeply upwards. He can also clearly see the three Grimlocks as they creep down the passage and emerge onto the ledge, brandishing their crude morningstars!

OUT OF CHARACTER

Cyrius, unfortunately, failed his perception check to hear the Grimlocks coming toward him. Thus, there will be a surprise round. Tex gets to act, then the Grimlocks, then we will proceed in normal combat order. Both Tex and Cyrius are empty handed, having just completed climbing up onto the ledge.
