Re: [Active Thread] The Second Face of Evil
Round 5 Continues
Worrell fires at grimlock 6, still hoping to dispatch it. He misses again.
Prost continues his attack, hoping for better results. He loads his crossbow and fires at grimlock 3. He also misses.
Tex takes aim at grimlock 3, and lets loose. His shot is well aimed and wounds the creature [10 hp damage]
Cyrius again reloads his crossbow and shoots, this time at grimlock 6. He has no luck.
Round 6 Begins
Marcus does nothing.
Lola, seeing she does not a very clear shot, casts Bless on her friends.
Four grimlocks (5, 6, 7, and 8) throw javelins at Worrel. None is able to get through his armor. There is a grunting exchange between grimlock 3 and someone in the shadows.
That someone soon emerges from the shadows. A large grimlock (GC on the map), covered in tattoos and scars, rushes into the corridor. He screams in surprisingly literate common, Carry my regards to our common master, minions of Amon-Ibor! I shall prove my worth to his Sibilance! He swings a shining greataxe at Worrel and even the paladin's heavy armor proves insufficient protection [15 hp damage].
Grimlock 3 comes down from the ledge and grimlock 2 re-emerges from the shadows. They reach their longspears over their leader's head to poke at Worrel, but are unable to do any harm.

Note that only F and higher letters have line of sight to the grimlocks. Dotted black lines show the line of sight available to those farther back than L. When/if you get into the chamber, you'll see more of the purple dashed contour lines on the map. These represent steep slopes. Lola will lead the retreat back. If there is a time when she can use her last channel energy to heal the group and not the bad guys she will. If there is no time she feels she can do this she will just keep moving back.

Round 6 Continues
“We might want to consider withdrawing,” Cyrius opines... in tacit agreement, Worrell waits for Prost to move back... agreeing with the others, Prost, in turn, waits for Tex to retreat...
“Yeah, move back to the last ledge!” says Tex as he fires at the grimlock chief. Tex takes a very precise shot that wounds the creature [8 hp damage]. He moves back to the end of the line.
Prost takes a step back, reloads his crossbow, and fires at the grimlock chieftan, missing.
Worrel also steps back away from the big, new grimlock. “I cannot withstand another attack like that.” he comments in an understated manner. Once he is clear, he nocks an arrow and draws it back to his ear before loosing it at the new grimlock. Perhaps shaken from the recent injuries, he misses.
Cyrius reloads his crossbow and shoots at grimlock #2. He just manages to hit [3 hp damage].
Round 7 Begins
“Putting them in a narrow space might give is better leverage,” Marcus agrees as he attempts a shot at the large grimlock. He misses and then retreats with the group.
Lola begins to lead the retreat back, but then discovers a spot where she can use her last channel energy to heal the group and not the bad guys. The burst of positive energy heals the party [each party member healed 9 hp].
Grimlocks 7 and 8 throw javelins at Worrel. Rather miraculously, one of them hits [natural 20, crit not confirmed, 8 hp damage]
The large grimlock (GC) steps forward and screams unintelligibly as he hacks at Worrel with his greataxe. The blow misses completely.
Grimlock 3 steps into the corridor to poke at Worrel over the chieftan's shoulder with his longspear. He misses.
The remaining grimlocks descend their ledges to crowd around the entrance to the cavern.

Re: [Active Thread] The Second Face of Evil
[ooc]Here's what storm burst does. It has no effect on movement.kabkal wrote:Would a storm burst spell slow the grimlocks down or does it just effect their attack?
Storm Burst (Sp): As a standard action, you can create a storm burst targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The storm burst deals 1d6 points of nonlethal damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. In addition, the target is buffeted by winds and rain, causing it to take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round.[/ooc]

Round 7 Continues
Remaining where he is, Tex fires at grimlock 6 and kils it.
Prost backs up, reloads his crossbow and prepares to cover the retreat.
Holding his bow in his left hand, Worrell draws his longsword and slashes at the grimlock captain. After missing, he steps back 5 feet.
Preparing to be the rear guard in the withdrawal, Cyrius slings his crossbow and materializes his mind blade as a rapier.
Round 8 Begins
Marcus retreats as far as he can to make room for his teammates to exit. Far back from Cyrius and the light source, Marcus is now stumbling along in complete darkness.
Lola also keeps retreating with crossbow ready in case it is needed. Lola joins Marcus in the dark tunnel. They both think it is probably about 100 feet more back to the last ledge... give or take 10 feet. Hopefully, no one steps off the edge in the dark.
Screaming, the grimlock chief steps forward and swipes at Worrel with his greataxe. The axe head just barely glances off the paladin's armor.
With no javelins left, the remaining grimlocks begin crowding into the tunnel.

Tex fires at the Chieftain, misses, then backs up, yelling Worrel, Fall back to me, I need some ammo!
Prost takes aim and fires, misses, reloads his crossbow, and steps back 5 feet.
Worrell withdraws, moving back past his companions until he is standing next to Tex. “Here, take some of my arrows. My bow is back up there.” (His wounds seem to have confused him, since he's holding his bow in his left hand; his shield is back up there.) [Tex can take a handful of arrows -- let's say 10 -- from Worrell's quiver as a move action]
With Prost still just behind him, and committed to playing rear guard, Cyrius steps back and charges his mind blade with psychic energy. He waits for the chieftain to come within reach.
Round 9 Begins
Lola and Marcus are still in the dark, so they wait.
Still growling and cursing, the grimlock chief rushes down the winding hall. Cyrius' readied action is triggered, but his charged strike misses. The grimlock counters by giving Cyrius a slash with his greataxe [9 hp damage].
The remaining grimlocks follow their leader down the tunnel.

[ooc]My bad, I guess I wasn't clear, Cyrius intended to "retreat" only as far as possible without passing one of his teammates; hence, the rear guard appellation.[/ooc]
Realizing that his companions must have misread his intentions, Cyrius will remain where he is while the in front of him move past him to safety. If one of the grimlocks moves into his reach, he will strike at it.
