Round 10
Worrel continues to wait until he can attack the Faceless One...
Cyrius stands ready to attack the Faceless One when the opportunity presents itself...
Marcus stands and asks Tex to get behind him. Going to cast burning hands when he comes up. Marcus stows his crossbow. Marcus' pit spell ends, bringing the Faceless One to the surface and triggering an end to Worrel's and Cyrius' waiting...
Worrel marches into the room and attacks the Faceless One, but misses [attack roll total = 19].
Cyrius also moves up and attacks. Like Worrel, he has no success [attack roll total = 23].
In spite of the occluded view, Lola shoots her crossbow. The shot bounces off the intervening wall [attack roll total = 17].
In a surprising display of agility, the Faceless One tumbles away from Cyrius and Worrel [acrobatics checks = 21 and 21]. Cyrius is not fooled and gets in a swing with his mind blade, but misses once again [AOO attack roll total = 12]. From his new position down the hall, the Faceless On casts a spell, aiming between Worrel and Cyrius. Sticky webs erupt, filling the surrounding room and corridors [Cyrius, Worrel, Tex, and Marcus need Reflex saves vs DC17 to avoid being grappled; see below for more effects]. The Faceless One's flaming sphere disappears and he burns a little more before the alchemist's fire goes out [1 hp damage].
Tex finds himself entangled in the web [failed reflex save]. He twists and strains, though, and manages to break free [made grapple check as a standard action]. Realizing he might still be able to shoot at the Faceless One next round, he remains where he is.

OUT OF CHARACTER |
Had to make a lot of rolls this round, so I did them in the DM sheet. I posted results above so you would have an idea of how hard it is to hit the Faceless One. |
ACTIVE EFFECTS |
Spells in effect: 1. Bless: all party members +1 morale to attack and +1 to saves vs. fear, 1.6 minutes left 2. Web: The entire area is difficult terrain (2 squares per square). Creatures that fail lose their movement and become grappled in the first square of webbing that they enter. If you have at least 5 feet of web between you and an opponent, it provides cover. If you have at least 20 feet of web between you, it provides total cover. Round 11 1. Marcus Tilsworth: nothing in hand, 1 elemental ray left, 4 alchemists fire left, 84 bolts left, 17 hp, 3 Wisdom damage, needs a Reflex save vs DC17 to avoid being grappled 2. Worrel: longsword and shield readied, 42 arrows left, Smite Evil 1 left, Lay on Hands 2 left, light (from Marcus) on longsword 47.7 min left, Divine Bond 3.7 min left, 14 hp damage, needs a Reflex save vs DC17 to avoid being grappled 3. Lola: unloaded heavy crossbow readied, wand of CLW 5 charges left, 3 channel energy left, 78 bolts left 5. Masked Man in Green Robes (a.k.a. the Faceless One) (F1): 18 hp damage (2 are nonlethal) 6. Can I use Prestidigitation to create a flame on Tex's sword to cut through the web, or is that too advanced for that spell? |

Waiting on Lola |
Re: [Active Thread] The Third Face of Evil
If she can, Lola will reload the crossbow and then move into line with the others. If she cannot move and reload, she will just move. Either way, she wants to be behind Marcus.
Re: [Active Thread] The Third Face of Evil
Round 11
Thinking about using Prestidigitation, but realizing that what he wants to do is too complicated for the spell, Marcus decides to force his way through the web. Taking a step he immediately acknowledges his mistake. He's now stuck in the web. “We cannot let him get away!!!”
Worrel avoids being caught in the web. When he sees the Faceless One trying to escape, Worrel bulls his way through the web in pursuit.
Taken by surprise, Cyrius finds himself snared in the web. He strains to escape its clinging strands and succeeds, emulating Texudus by waiting for another opportunity to engage the fearsome foe.
Lola moves into line with the others, avoiding the sticky webs and grabby pillars. Then she begins reloading her crossbow [she'll need to use one move action next round to finish reloading, leaving her with another move or standard action after that]
With Worrel now threatening him, the Faceless One opens the door behind him. Worrel takes the opportunity to swing at the wizard, but misses [AoO attack roll total = 22]. Beyond the door, Worrel can see that boxes and crates fill a small room, leaving only a narrow alley to cross. Kegs of water, boxes of rations, and other mundane gear are arranged in neat, orderly piles. Some of the gear is familiar, since it includes Cyrius' backpack and the other missing loot the party had been storing in their carts! Only the briefest glimpse is possible, though, as the Faceless One steps through the door and slams it shut behind him.
“Grumble,” Tex grumbles, “Can't shoot him if he's behind a door!” He begins forcing his way through the web to follow Worrel. Like Marcus, he immediately realizes this was a mistake. He's also stuck in the web.

For the record, I read the web spell to require only one CMB check to move through it, not one per square. You either get stuck in the first square or make it all the way to your destination. |

Round 12
Marcus struggles with the webs, but remains stuck.
Worrel steps to the door and opens it. Finding the Faceless One immediately on the other side, he attacks, but ineffectively [missed].
Cyrius pushes his way through the webs to follow Worrel down the corridor.
Lola finishes reloading her crossbow, then casts light on the loaded bolt. She takes a first step in the direction of the secret door.
The Faceless One growls “Foolish interlopers, you will never defeat the Triad! We possess the combined power of three gods!” He steps away from Worrel and casts a spell. The spell unleashes a bolt of lightning down the corridor, catching Worrel, Cyrius, and Tex [19 hp damage each, Reflex DC19 for half]. He follows up with a croaking sound that you suspect indicates he is laughing evilly behind his mask.
Tex avoids the worst of the lightning [made Reflex save]. but cannot free himself from the webs [failed CMB check]. “Fine. I'll burn my way out, if that's what it takes,” he says, retrieving a vial of alchemist's fire. “Marcus, do you care if you get a little singed?” he asks [Tex can avoid catching you, or he can include you and get you free; you'll end up taking 2d4+1 from the splash and the burning webs if you want to be included].

Marcus replies to Tex “DO IT!!!” And waits...
After failing to to avoid the full force of the lightning bolt, Worrel steps close to the Faceless One to slash futilely with his longsword [missed].
Cyrius also fails to avoid the full brunt of the lightning bolt. Scorched but undeterred, he proceeds to move next the Faceless One, who, holding only an ornate rod, is unable to defend the position [No AoO]. Cyrius swings at the vile foe, missing by a country mile. “Athena's Aegis, what does it take to hit this son of a diseased goblin!”
Lola continues her path, running to the secret door.
The Faceless One steps into the short corridor exiting the room. He growls “You call me a son of a diseased goblin? You'll soon see worse than that...” He retrieves a scroll from within his green robes [No AoO from Cyrius because of the cover provided by the corner] and begins reading from it, waving his ornate rod. Whatever magic the scroll possesses must be complex, because the Faceless One's recitation continues for a while...
Tex tosses his alchemists' fire onto the ground a few feet in front of him, setting a good-sized area of the webs alight. An area that includes the webs holding himself and Marcus. They are each burned rather severely [9 hp damage each], but now free of the webs. Tex takes a step forward and retrieves another alchemists' fire, commenting “Don't get too close. I'm going to take care of the rest of the corridor, too.”
Marcus replies to Tex “DO IT!!!” And waits...
