PROLOGUE - Only Zan the Gnome Druid

Post by admin »

OUT OF CHARACTER
Since Zan has left the Inn, we will be using this thread for what he intends to do during the rest of the night.

it is around 21h30. The outside temperature is -15C (5F) and there is a mild wind blowing toward the East.

Zan can see a few villagers moving rapidly about, all well dressed for the cold temperature. There are Continual Flames lighting most area of the Village, and the ground is frozen, including the the small rivers and creaks that would normally flow through most parts of the village in the summertime. While small bridges are everywhere to cross these rivers and creaks - likely built to avoid the mud in summer - there is no need to use these because the cold has frozen all the waterways.

@erdnetra: Please describe what Zan is doing once he leaves the Inn.

I Look around for the surroundings making sure to pay attention to the surroundings and looking for a spot to find shelter for the night. Looking for other animals and where they might be holding themselves up.

THINKING: How dare they think that I am a Gnome. Bloody hell I am an Elf can't they see that.

Zan takes a moment to survey the quiet town around him. Despite the frigid temperatures, the villagers he sees moving about are skillfully attired, well-prepared for the harsh climate. Continual Flames cast a soft glow, illuminating most areas of the village, providing a sense of warmth and comfort. The frozen ground extends to the small rivers and creeks that typically meander through the village in warmer seasons. The numerous bridges, built to circumvent muddy conditions during summer, now stand unused, for the cold has solidified all the waterways.

Searching for shelter from the biting cold, Zan observes the smoke gently billowing from chimneys of every house. The tightly shut windows effectively insulate the warm interiors, preventing any precious light or heat from escaping wastefully into the unforgiving winter air. The faint sounds emanating from within the houses hint at families partaking in dinner or engaging in lively games such as Devilpin or the Golem card game. A melodic tune drifts through the air, likely the result of a musically inclined family honing their talents. Amidst these familiar sounds, Zan discerns snippets of conversation from passersby and the enchanting melodies produced by Ixil's masterful mandolin playing.

In this urban environment, Zan's keen senses fail to detect any presence of animals, and the absence of their typical sounds leaves the streets quiet and devoid of wildlife.

Utilizing his sharp survival instincts, Zan, the resourceful Gnome, diligently seeks out a secure location to spend the night amidst the unforgiving cold. His keen survival instincts quickly identify a small bridge, fortuitously aligned with the direction of the wind. Recognizing the potential benefits (Survival 27), Zan takes shelter beneath the bridge, shielding himself from the majority of the biting winds that would otherwise assault his small form.

Drawing upon his Druidic abilities, Zan taps into the power of Wild Shape, transforming himself into a creature more suited for his task. With the agility and dexterity of his new form, he begins to excavate a makeshift shelter beneath the bridge. For an entire minute, Zan tirelessly burrows into the earth, clearing one inch of topsoil. However, his efforts soon meet an insurmountable obstacle—the ground beneath him has solidified into an impenetrable hardness, resembling unyielding rock. As his Wild Shape fades away, Zan reverts to his original Gnome form, momentarily disheartened by the realization that further progress is impossible.

As Zan, overwhelmed by exhaustion, takes refuge in the small shelter he meticulously created beneath the bridge, his weary body succumbs to the harsh embrace of the freezing cold. Though the refuge offers some respite from the biting winds, the frigid temperatures persist, permeating the air around him.

In his slumber, Zan's dreams transport him to the familiar embrace of his beloved forest. Visions of vibrant foliage and the harmonious symphony of nature fill his mind, providing a brief respite from the harsh reality of his surroundings. However, unbeknownst to Zan, the bitter cold gradually seeps into his very being, gradually sapping away his life force.

As the numbing cold envelops his body, Zan's heart slows its rhythm, its life-sustaining beat gradually fading away. The dreamscape of his forest sanctuary fades into darkness, leaving only an icy void. The toll of the merciless cold claims its final victory, and Zan's fragile form succumbs to the chilling grip of death.
