What is a Data File (Addon)?

A Data File {known as an Addons, if applied to TOS 2^nd PRO edition} is a text files that contains information that you wish to apply to an existing character. Contrary to the normal “Load Character” button, loading a Data File will *not* trigger a reset of the current Character. The data contained in a Data File is merged in the Character.

How to Apply a Data File?

To apply a data file, you need to visit the Control sheet, where you can use:

• On TOS+, the Load .tosdata button
• On TOS FIVE, the Load Data File button
• On TOS 2^nd, the Load ADD-ON button

Why use a Data File?

There are many uses for a Data File. For example,

• • a Dungeon Master can create a specific set of options that will be applied to all Characters created for his campaign. Like custom backgrounds, weapons, spells etc…)
  • a Player can grab a Data File from the Community Forums to add specific book content or items
  • a more experienced user can create the Data File required for a friend’s Character.

Exceptions to the overwrite rule!

In most cases, the data found in a Data File will overwrite pre-existing data at the same position (cell) in The Sheet. For example, if you create a Data File which applies a specific Deity to a Character, then this will overwrite any existing Deity defined. But there are a few exceptions to this. The reason is simple: Sometimes, you wish to apply multiple Data File to a Character, all of which should add to the current Character, without losing previously added data.

TOS+ and TOS FIVE exceptions: Custom Feats and Spells are not overwritten, but added.
TOS 2^nd PRO edition exceptions: Custom Feats, Gear, Magic Items, Spells and Weapons are not overwritten, but added.

File name extensions

Because each of the TOS Managers have the ability to load Data File, we use a different file extension to distinguish between them, as they are not cross-system compatible:

.tosdata: Used for TOS+ Data Files.
.tos5data: Used for TOS FIVE Data Files.
.tos2data: Used for TOS 2^nd PRO edition Data Files/Addons.
