The Boar and Pig (Introductions)

Post by shai-hulud »

A short man, standing a mere 5'3" tall, calls the adventurers to order. His hair is completely white, and his eyes are penetratingly blue. His skin is tinted green. He carries an enormous green book with a silver sun embossed on the cover. While the book appears to be quite weighty, he clutches it the entire time he speaks, apparently used to its weight.

This little man is in his middle age, quickly approaching old age. He does not appear to be a typical adventurer. In fact, he is dressed in wealthy clothing, adorned with jewelry befitting a man of higher station. He is clearly nobility.

Greetings adventurers, my name is Oldin. Please forgive me, but I must forgo the traditional formalities that these proceedings would entail. You have been called here because Shah Leayh's son Amon has gone missing. Magic has pinpointed his location in northern Tharbria, but unfortunately has told little of his captors. Our task is to find him and rescue him.

As I mentioned, I know little of his captors, and as of yet, they have made no attempt to contact me with ransom demands, so I am anticipating the worst. I can only assume that we have precious little time to rescue him.

Now that the task is described, I will tell you of the reward. 5,000 gp to each adventurer who returns should Amon be rescued.

Please introduce yourselves. I will begin. I am Oldin, a scholar, diplomat, and at times, spiritual advisor--but only to those who would seek my wisdom. I will organize this mission, but please, offer any advice you might have. I always respect the opinions of those I travel with, but once I have made a decision, I expect everyone to follow, whether they are in agreement or not. Something in High Viridian. PM me if your character speaks it.

Please hold all questions until after introductions are complete.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you.

The first to respond to Oldin is a tanned, grey-eyed man with light brown hair, barely an inch taller than the scholar and of wiry build. He wears a chain shirt made of very delicate-looking links over the garb favored by most adventurers and explorers, although his forest green boots appear more finely crafted than most; a pouch, shortsword, light mace, and pair of daggers hang from his belt. He has deposited his backpack and quiver at his feet, and holds a composite shortbow of obvious masterwork quality.

He speaks in the manner of a rustic of Caithness: "I be Esias Lightfoot, out o' Valder's Thorpe in th' Smoke Mountains. I were a scout there for th' old baron's expeditions into th' wastelands till he died, and since then I been guidin' 'n' escortin' travelers 'n' caravans cross most o' the southlands. I know woodscraft 'n' trackin', and if I do say it m'self, I'm not bad at fightin' when 'tis needful.

"I don't hold with stealin' children. If you'll have me, sage Oldin, I swear by th' Wanderer t' stand with you till the boy is returned."

"It's good to have a scout in a group, then having another tracker is also good to add. It should catch us up in time more swiftly as we move." said a stranger barely taller than Oldin. He says, "I'm known as Aeless Aereth, where I'm from is everywhere but it's near Elsenwood. If you would care for my assistance, I will be more than glad to lend my skills to this group that is forming." His garb is still dusty and foliage still hangs in parts of his clothing, as if he has travelled hard and just barely brushed it from his clothing. He seems to carry light, but his bow seems to protrude from its quiver, and it's larger than it seems. His greatsword is awkward in its size and balance. "Excuse my appearance for I had to travel quick and fast to your summons." his apology sounds sincere and diplomatic.

A human woman of average height and stature stands to one side, leaning on the haft of a longspear. Her brown hair falls about her shoulders and her brown eyes move to focus on each speaker, in turn. A longsword hangs from her waist and a carved wooden totem in the shape of a bear is suspended from a leather thong around her neck. She wears armor of rigid leather plates, studded with small rivets of metal.

"I am Rúadhnait (ROO-un-it) of the Kelts. I have little use or desire for your gold. I seek only to return home. If I return the child, can you help me?"

A young slender woman with long braided red hair stands near the back of the room green eyes moving over everyone and everything. If one looks closely at her, and is familiar with the Viridian noblility, might wonder why a noble was here, dressed as she is. She stands casually against the wall, a very fine chain shirt over adventurers garb, that is either form fitting or had lacing wrapped around it to make it form fitting. A high quality short sword and dagger rest on either hip, a quiver with a shortbow on her back. In her hands is a small metal puzzle that her fingers solve and put back together repeatedly as she listens to everyone else.
Finally when Oldin looks at her she grins a little and inclines her head to show she understood the line spoken in High Viridian.

I am Leenah, and I can get you into whereever Amon is being held.

A large man, who was previously sitting behind and to the left of Oldin stands slowly, leaving a large sword, still in it's shealth, leaning against the side of the chair he was resting in. He is easily taller than most if not all of your by a foot at least, he has short cropped auburn hair with a clean shaven face. The man's eyes are too far away to notice the color, but it is not hard to notice the fresh bruises that adorn his face, and the obvious way his nose is shaped to indicate that it was recently broken. His skin is a creamy white, but is hard to tell with all the blue and purple spots around his eyes, nose and mouth. He seems to be young, not even 20, yet his face and manner express an older age. He is adorned in what is the most recognizable item upon him, a well polished breastplate with the mark of the Legion centered in the chest. The marks upon the armor at the bottom sides mark him as a sargeant, but other than the Legion helmet and greaves strapped to his legs, he lacks the required regalia of a Legionaire. He also has clipped to his cloth shirt a green cloak that clashes dramatically with the breastplate and greaves. His legs are covered by leather leggings, a dagger strapped to his right foreleg, and sturdy leather boots. His arms are bare except for leather bracers strapped to his forearm. His arms also show strength, but seem to be worse for the wear, with a few bruises around his elbows and wrists. Those familiar with Tharbia recognize the Tharbian ritual of piercing their right ear with the fangs of the first beast to be slain to signal a boy's entrance into manhood. On the table in front of him lie the helmet, possibly his, and a recurve bow that seems to bear some tribal markings.

In a relatively deep voice, the man speaks slowly in Common, so as to ensure that he does not interrupt anyone, "I am Vulan, and I will be joining you in this search."

Sliding over from the bar is a young man who stands nearly 6 feet tall. Slight of build and wearing a shirt of deep red over a chainshirt of obvious quality. He wears his jet black hair down to his collar and his bright green eyes dance from behind his sun soaked face. He wears a rapier and shortsword at his side.

"Well then, gold to be had and only a little trip to gather in a lost pup, count me in. I am Elezar, son of Yanzer the Red, First mate of the Crimson Sky, seeker of fame, fortune and love.

I too wish to join this band of hearties in helping your Master recover his young charge"

A tall man enters the room, dressed in full plate armour, with a large steel shield slung over his shoulder and a long sword in a scabbard strapped to his waist. He carries his helmet under his left arm and rests his right hand lightly on the hilt of his sword. His armour is of obvious quality, and he has the look of a seasoned fighter. He appears to be a native of Viridian Empire, though there are no marks of true blood about him. He has long hair dark brown hair and a large mustache that ends at his chin.

He glances around the room, pauses at the large Tharbrian, then faces Oldin.

I am Brand son of Brego. I will assist in the search for young Amon, as any just man should. I look forward to meeting the cowards that would kidnap a young boy.

A lithe young man stumbles into the room, leaning heavily on his walking staff. He is dressed in simple attire, with the pale green hue of his skin made more prominent and noticable by his shiny, shaved head. He grins broadly at everyone present, and manages to get his words out with only a slight bit of a slur to them...

"It looks like I'm in the right place. I would've been here sooner, but they have the most tasty ale downstairs at the bar. I quite highly recommend it. In fact, if anyone would like to try some, I just so happen to have a couple of pitchers with me... If ale isn't your thing, I could probably scrounge up some wine, or perhaps some other spirits... 'Twould be proper to begin a quest with a bit of a prayer, a hearty toast, and, of course, the obligatory libation!"

Throughout these introductions, Oldin indicates only slightly who should next introduce themselves. His gaze then becomes diverted as they begin speaking, a distant sort of gaze, not really looking at anything or anyone. It appears that he is not even listening, off perhaps in his own little world. Then when the speaker finishes, he nods to another to begin. After this latest speaker, Oldin chimes in with a smile, directing his gaze to this newcomer...

Plenty of time for spirits after introductions. Please, favor us with your name.

The next entrant to the room is a fairly tall, slim built man of apparent human origins. He has a youthful face, but the crow's feet around his eyes and the weather worn lines on his expression bely him to be a traveller of more advanced years. He wears a simple scholars outfit, that seems to have uncountable pockets which bulge with several kinds of writing devices, looking glasses, hand scales, sealing wax, scraps of parchment and more. A cloak trails over his back, showing a small amulet, and the robe in itself is of a deep blue colouring, and made of heavy fibres that surely would keep out the cold. He carries a large backpack that, like his outfit, has many possessions of a small nature sticking out it, with small unstrung crossbow lashed to the side. He moves further into the room, his sturdy deep coloured staff making a tapping sound on the rough hewn floor, thanks to the metal caps nailed on the end. In his other hand he carries a tome of some weight, bound in leather with gold trim from the interior of which several silken page markers protrude. This book possesses any obvious otherworldy eldritch quality.

The man paused having surveyed the occupants of the room, and turns to look at Oldin, seeing a connenction of wisdom and knowledge with this man.

"I am Jermain, simply Jermain. I have spent many years wandering in Viridistan as both a traveller and a scholar, a teacher and an apprentice. I hear you are in need of skilled persons of both the martial and magical. I believe I can be of service with the latter, and therefore if you accept me into your cadre, my arcane learnings and extensive knowledge will be yours." He bows his head slightly and awaits a response.

OOC: I am assuming that Jiam has already stated that his name is Jiam based on my previous post.

As the last speaker finishes, Oldin briefly scans the faces of everyone present.

"Before I decide who shall come, I would like to have a word with each of you individually so that you can tell me in a little more detail of your skills. OOC: Though PMs.

First I will speak with Vulan. I know of him and his past, although this is our first meeting. Oldin glances behind him to the hulking man. He is joining us to repay a debt, and any man willing to risk his life to repay a debt is one worth knowing. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves while we are gone and take Jiam up on his offer of spirits and merriment. A prayer in Celestial. PM me if your character speaks Celestial.

The order of "interviews" is Vulan, Esias, Aeless, Rúadhnait, Brand, Jermain, Elezar, Leenah, and finally, Jiam, if anyone was paying attention.

The party is now assembled!

Ideally, I'd like to handle Oldin's private interviews via email, so that I can be in on them, yet have them be private. With that in mind, please pm me your email address. If anyone has a problem with that, let me know and we'll work out another method.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I'm assuming that this way all the conversations will go on at the same time in real world time. (Hopefully, Oldin can handle that much email :))

As Vulan picks up his sword and helmet and bow, strapping the former to his back and carrying the two latter, he moves from behind the table to follow Oldin out of the room, and his height is now easily seen, he is very clearly almost six and a half feet tall! He gives only the briefest look to the Knight before leaving the room.

An indeterminate amount of time later (we haven't finished the conversation yet), Oldin returns with Vulan, who's bruises seem to have almost disappeared. Oldin next escorts Esias out of the room. (I added this because of the potential this information might have on the private conversations, which are all taking place concurrently in real-time).

Aeless goes to the nearest corner and brushes off more of the foliage he had on him and say, "Hmm, for a group that seems to assemble here. You're all rather quiet to each other even after brief introductions." as he smiles and pulls the cowl on his head revealing a slight elvish look that one would say he is half-elven.

Brand wanders over to Jiam. Clearly amused by the little man, he says,

I think I might join you for a drink, it's been a long dusty road to get here, and I have not yet partaken of the Ale in this fair establishment. Mind you, I better take it easy, getting out of this armour after a few too many mugs, is rather difficult.

Gathering up his haversack and quiver, Esias favors Aeless with a bemused smile. "I' the wild lands, useless chatter oft be a sign t' them y' hunt or avoid, that y' be about. A good woodsman soon learns t' bide his tongue till words be needful. Belike some o' your kinfolk could tell y' that," he remarks pleasantly. Then he follows Oldin out of the room, his footsteps light and difficult to hear.

After Oldin returns with Vulan, but before interviewing Esias, Oldin stops at the bartender, then returns to the room.

Drinks are on the house tonight. Relax and have a good time. We will be heading out the day after tomorrow, just enough time to get supplies, so tonight will be our last for revelry before we depart.

Then follows Oldin, for their conversation.

Orders a mug of meade, and proceeds to sip the mug during all of the interviews. She settles quietly off the side, as near to a wall as she can get, with her back to the wall. Watching the others as she works through a manipulative puzzle with her fingers, taking it apart and putting it back together rapidly before pulling another out of her belt pouch. She works through several puzzles as she watches and listens.

Aeless walks into the room, and states towards Leenah, "Puzzles are one of the best way to relax ones mind or just to waste time with some folks." As he walks passed and tells the innkeeper, "I shall return for more mead in an hour." and grins.

Tips her head looking at Aeless, she nods and a bit of humor enters her eyes.

"They are an excellent way to relax the mind," she responds softly.

Jermain having seated himself at a nearby table, removes his cloak and starts searching through his many-pocketed attire. After a moment he pulls out a this box that is hinged at one side, which upon opening shows it's true nature as a small chess set. Setting it down upon the table, the peices that were a moment before scattered around the table start righting themselves and moving their starting game positions. Clearing his throat, he announces "Would anyone present care for a game?"

An hour passes, Aeless comes back looking more refine than before. He wears a dark green hooded cloak(hood off). His hair is silver and he's fair complected, underneath his red shirt is a fine silvery chain shirt. Although in his hand is some wet clothes, as he says "Innkeeper, which one of the rooms can I take? Oh, and am almost ready for that mead." and smiles.

After his interview with Oldin, Esias takes a mug of mead from the innkeeper, which he nurses until Aeless returns in his new finery. Quaffing the last of his drink, he approaches the half-elf.

After the innkeeper showed him his room and a few minutes passed, he grabs his mug of mead and sat near Esias as he finishes his question, "At last a drinking conversation, I don't have much to tell other than I had been to Viridistan and Elsenwood area travelled the plains of Targnol to deliver a missive to the port then turned around and my feet took me Caer Cadwen accompanied a merchant caravan near the Gigabolt ranges and came near here in the outlying villages and hamlets. I think it's more of a tale of people would call a travelled person, but it more sounds like a person who was lost in his direction." after a mouthful of words he takes a swig of his mug.

"Is there a measure to what one can do by asking who trained them?" he asks Esias, as if his question is for the whole.

"Jermain is it? Bring thy game here to our table, I could give it a try. We can always enjoy a nice mug of mead or ale as we play." as he moves a chair for Jermain.

"It seems we are missing a few things here...." as a grin shows as he ask, "Innkeeper, what kind of food we might be able to consume that is available and is there a bard that we may listen to some music filling the air?"

"Esias or Jermain... you seen a barwench who can help us? I really don't like disturbing the innkeeper." he whispers to the two.

Esias shrugs as he watches Aeless and Jermain begin their game. "Might be as we should wait for sage Oldin afore startin' a meal; he may have a final word for us all. And might be," he muses pensively, "as he's not over anxious for news of our purpose to be nattered about by every tavern maid and minstrel in Tak Shire, else word might fly t' folk who'll not wish us success. The less who know of us here, the better, I'm thinkin'.
