- Took a day or two in town to fully heal and recover spells,
- Returned to the Land Family farm to bury the bones,
- Returned to the Whispering Cairn to see if Alastair Land, as promised, has opened that last door for you.
After burying the bones of Alastair and his relatives, the party returns to the Whispering Cairn. After making their way through the dark initial passages, they return to the room of colored lanterns, where they find all of the lanterns still in place and lit. From there, they climb the chain of the blue lantern into the corridor above the ceiling. The howling face trap remains retracted into the ceiling, so the party quickly makes its way to the end of the passage to look anew upon the strange chamber with the beam and the metal balls.
Through the gaping mouth at the end of the hallway is a long, dark room with no floor. A three-foot-wide beam of petrified wood spans the chasm. About ten feet below the beam, countless iron spheres the size of large oranges form an irregular floor, but it’s impossible to tell if they represent a wholly solid surface. The walls are covered in a honeycomb of geometric patterns. The featureless stone ceiling extends about twenty feet from the beam. Several things have changed since the party was last here:
- The body of the curious grick seems to have disappeared,
- There is no sign of the child ghost, Alastair Land,
- The featureless metal door at the end of the beam is now open, apparently retracted into the wall.
