Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Tex silently accepts his 8 pieces of gold, and says “Alright, lets get this guy to the farmhouse. And get a hood on him, I dont want him fingering us later.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
So, the party loots Todrick and, skirting the town so that they go unobserved by anyone, carry him out to the abandoned farmhouse. They keep his head covered with a blanket, but the beat-up drunk shows no signs of waking up anytime soon.
OUT OF CHARACTER |
Are you going to wait for him to wake up normally? If so, it will take several hours and you will be risking fatigue if you don't get some sleep in the meantime: you've been up all day between adventuring and searching for information. Status Report: Edgar Frog - 10 hp damage Todrick the Drunk Guy - unconscious due to nonlethal pummeling |

“Let's not waste time. It'll take long enough as is to get what we want from him. Worst case, we'll have to sleep here in shifts as we work him over.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Lola agrees, “"You wake him. We will also need to keep a watch on the door so we can prepare if anyone comes looking for him. I will take watch. Do we want to start a sleep rotation as well?"”

“Being as I have not used any spells yet, I won't need as much rest as normal, but getting sleep will be required. I'll take second shift.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“im gunna get some shut eye. ive been travelling all day.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“So, which of us is going to interrogate him?” Cyrius asks.

I suspect Intimidate is the skill called for here, though Diplomacy might serve, albeit with penalties. |

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
With a hood over the man's face, Marcus slaps him and waits for his to come too. “Let's get this done.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
There is some discussion of sleep, but suddenly the party becomes eager to question the unconscious man. Therefore, Marcus slaps him around for a bit. This accomplishes nothing. The man remains unconscious.
OUT OF CHARACTER |
Todrick is in the double digit negatives for hit points. He is unconscious due to nonlethal damage, not asleep. Slapping, shaking, or yelling is not going to change his status. You can wait for him to recover on his own, in which case sleep would be advisable, or you take some action to speed up his recovery... |

“Well, I guess well sleep. I think I called second shift, so I'll turn in. Wake mepco when it's my turn for watch.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“He looks like he'll be out for a while if left alone,” Cyrius remarks. “Any of you have experience with the healing arts? Or perhaps a curative spell? That would bring him around.”

“Honestly, I'd rather not waste any of that on him. If you're looking to have this done tonight, then we will, but I think gagging him and keeping him tied up till morn' will work just the same.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Lola keeps watch until the next person's turn, will wake them and then sleep for a bit and then pray.
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Cyrius will take second watch, relieving Lola.

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
The party manages to get a full night's rest without (surprisingly to the DM) any random encounters. They are awakened by whoever took the last watch (either Edgar or Tex) pointing out that the bound and gagged Todrick is now awake and struggling with his bonds.
OUT OF CHARACTER |
If anyone needs to change their spell selection or anything for today, PM me. Status Report: Edgar - 7 hp damage (after 3 hp healed from a night's rest) Todrick - sober, conscious, bound, gagged, and with a blanket over his head. Probably pretty angry... |

my 2nd level spells will be Calm Emotions and Zone of Truth. |
Lola will cast Calm Emotions on the guy and then zone of truth (both will DC 15) prior to questioning him.

What's the range of the Zone of Truth again for Lola? Keep in mind that this spell effects all who enter, even the caster, and this guy will be aware that the spell is cast, as per the description, assuming I read it right. As mentioned, not that it really matters, Marcus' spells remain unchanged. |
Marcus gets to his feet but keeps his distance from Lola, and the zone of truth. “All we need is information. If you give us what we ask, I assure you that you'll live. If you make it hard, I promise you a lot of suffering and an outcome you'll not like. You've dedicated your life to hurting and killing people for your own selfish gain, so killing you in cold blood would not be an issue for me. Answering our questions will let you live longer, since thugs like you always end up retired one way or another just by your profession.”

Lola will still cast the two spells, centered on the guy, and will stay 22' feet away.

Mayne in 3 min we can get something from him, if not, 3 min is not that long of time before we have to beat the truth out of him. |

With the spells cast, Marcus attempts to get what he can from this thug.
Diplomacy for trying to be civil getting answers. (1d20+4=7)
“Where were the bodies of the graves outside moved from? We found the body of your associate here, so we know it was your crew that took them. Why?”
Marcus' attitude toward the guy wasn't masked very well in his questions.

Tex simply watches the proceedings, not having much interest in interrogation, but knowing it needs to be done.

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Todrick curses loudly, struggling with his bonds, until Lola casts her calm emotions spell on him. This, predictably, calms him down. After she casts her Zone of Truth spell, Marcus begins questioning Todrick.
Todrick answers, “I'll tell ya what ya wanna know as long as you give me my gear back. I got no reason to protect the bastard that hired us. You don't even need yer spell to make me tell it true. But I need my gear to stay alive in this town. I'm good as dead without it.”Marcus wrote:All we need is information. If you give us what we ask, I assure you that you'll live. “Talk. You're not in a position to bargain.” Marcus takes the lance and sits it before the man, about twenty feet from him. “As our first gesture. Now talk. Why take the bodies and who wants them. What does this family have to do with why this person wants them?”

Todrick still has a blanket over his head, so he can't see that Marcus is holding his pole arm (which is a guisarme, not a lance) |
“Naw,” says Todrick, “Ya might as well just kill me now if yer not givin' my stuff back. I got enemies that'll kill me right quick without it.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Tex nods and makes a gesture to indicate that he supports giving Todrick his equipment back.

Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
“Fine. It's agreed you'll get your things back, after you tell us all you know of this matter, not before.”
Re: [Active Thread] The Land Family Farm
Todrick believes that Marcus is telling the truth, so he begins talking, “Fine. It's a weird story, though. So, the boss has this friend visiting. Ugly goat-faced fella. Guess he's some kinda wizard or somethin'. So the boss says we gotta do whatever the goat-faced bastard asks, get him whatever he needs to get comfortable here in town. And whaddaya figure the first thing ol' goat-face wants is? Wine? Food? Women? Naw! The freak tells us to dig up some graves and get him the bones! And they gotta be whole skeletons, too!”
“Well, I about crapped myself when he said that. And I think Kullen woulda punched him in the face if it weren't for the boss' orders. So Kullen tells him there ain't no way we're diggin' up any graves 'round here, what with them Grismal types watching the graveyard. But then Rastophan says he thinks he can find some private graves at some of the farmhouses outside a town where the cultists don't watch. So we spend all day touring 'round all these old crappy farmhouses until we find one with some graves out front.”
“So we get the graves dug up. Talk about crappy work fer an honest mercenary! I ain't never doin' that kinda stuff again, no matter who tells me. Anyway, we get them bones out and into the barrow and ol' Skutch says let's see if we can make it worth our while -- maybe there's some gold or silver left over in the old house. Well, he talked us into taking a look. Weren't no gold or silver, though, just two real big feathered bears! That was the end of poor ol' Skutch. Rest of us high-tailed it out of there. We brought that goat-faced bastard his bones, 'cause the boss'd have our hides if we didn't. But if it was up to me, old goat-face would pay for what he put us through, he would! His fault ol' Skutch is dead, way I see it. And his fault I got some Amazon bitch and her friends knockin' me on the head and askin' questions, too!”
As the story goes on, Todrick becomes more and more agitated and angry. It's clear that the Calm Emotions spell has worn off. However, his anger seems directed at the "goat-faced bastard," rather than the party.
