This section is intended to help users fix problems they might encounter with any of the TOS managers: TOS+, TOS FIVE or TOS 2nd PRO edition.
Software Errors
Excel Freezes/Locks up when trying to load a .tos, .tos2, .tos5 file, or a data file (2022)
When loading a file from within the Sheet (either of the 3 managers) using any of the "Load" buttons, Excel freezes or locks up.
CAUSE: Windows Defender’s Real Time Protection is seizing the file and it doesn’t release the file for Excel to continue loading OR it takes a longgg time to allow the file to load (like 5 mins, for something that should take less than a second).
SOLUTIONS:
- Create a local folder on your hard drive (like c:\TOS) to store the Sheet and any add-ons (.tos, .tos2, .tos5 or datafile). Then add an exception for the folder in Windows Defender, you may also need to add the folder to your Trust Center in Excel
- In Excel, make sure the local folder you are using is a Trusted Location
- DO NOT use Online Drives such as OneDrive or Google Drive.
- Check Online if you don't know how to do any of the above
When I open the Sheet, excel freezes (2022)
When opening any of the managers, a Window will pop-up that checks the version and displays information about the latest builds. You need to close that window before you can use the Sheet. You can close this window by pressing the OK button, or pressing the escape key.
Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine (Outdated)
A window pops up and says Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine. After installing a Microsoft update, the Windows Common Control Library does not work anymore.
TO FIX: With Office 2007, make sure you have the latest service release (Service Pack #3). Download the install the update KB2687493 from Microsoft, here. After install, the problem should be resolved.
If you still have problems, try the fix proposed here.
Excel crashes when saving the workbook (2012)
This errors appeared after the MS12-060 security update was released by Microsoft on 08/14/12. Click on MS12-060 to resolve. As a side note, you can save the .tos file directly (in the Control sheet) by using the Save Character button.
"Unspecified Automation Error" when opening the Sheet (2012)
This errors appeared after the MS12-060 security update was released by Microsoft on 08/14/12. Click on MS12-060 to resolve.
Some people found that this solution does not work and have come up with an alternative fix.
Error: 'Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found'
With the 32 bits version of Excel
On April 11th, 2012, Microsoft released a security update which breaks the .EXD files on an existing installation. When The Sheet is opened, this error will appear. To solve this, you need to remove ALL the .EXD files on your computer - Excel will re-create them itself as required (reference)
With the 64 bits version of Excel
If you use the 64 bits version of Excel, then you need to use the 64 bits version of the Sheet. Both standard version and the 64 bits version of the Sheet are posted in the Download section of the community forum. On Excel 64 bits, this is cause because Microsoft decided to abandon the TreeView control, which is used for the Quick Pick feature in the Sheet! See the ReadMe_EXCEL2010-64Bits.htm file (included with the 64 bits version of the Sheet) for more details.
If you still have this error while using the 64 bits version of the Sheet, make sure you remove ALL the .EXD files from your computer.
After opening, many cells show #NAME or ####
When you open the Sheet, you are required to activate macros. Macros are actually the code (VBA) that has been added to the Sheet to make it work properly - like any piece of software, the Sheet needs this programming to access all the powerful functions that makes it work.
To change the security level of the Macros, search the help in Excel on macros security.
General Errors
I defined a new weapon (armor, shield, equipment), but the Statistics do not correspond with what I entered!!?
Most probably, you used a name which is already assigned to another item. Make sure you are using a unique name!
Errors on Welcome worksheet
Excel tells me the Sheet is protected when I try to insert my Registration Key
Click on the "Enter Registration Key" button and paste your Key in that box! Note that Macros are essential to the Sheet. If you do not activate them, The Sheet will not function properly.
Errors on FRONT worksheet
When I select a Weapon, its name becomes RED
If you select a Range weapon and use it as a Melee weapon, you will get this condition. Make sure the mode of attack matches the type of weapon.
