Re: THE DEPARTURE
Bjorn listens intently to Van's well-reasoned arguments, his eyes reflecting a mix of understanding and concern. He acknowledges the validity of their points, recognizing the inherent risks and uncertainties that come with traversing the treacherous Whitefang Bay. With a calm demeanor, he offers his counterpoints to the adventurers' plea.
“Your reasoning is sound, and I appreciate your determination to help us,” Bjorn begins, his voice steady. “But we cannot overlook the dangers that lurk in the icy wilderness of the bay. It's not just a matter of the sleds' value; it's the safety of the travelers and our dog team that we must consider. Every expedition across those frozen lands carries an element of peril. We really need our dog teams to help us survive this place...”
He pauses, looking genuinely conflicted. “The Bounty has drawn attention from other brave souls, and they, too, seek to resolve this issue. I cannot guarantee that our sleds will be available to lend indefinitely. If another group decides to embark on this quest, we must extend the same opportunity to them if the sleds are still available....”
Bjorn's expression softens, his empathy apparent. “Believe me, I wish we could offer more, but we have to tread cautiously. It is not like you are well known adventurers in these parts of the world...” he says.

“Well, it was a good effort and worth trying. I think we need those sleds, and the firewood they can haul. I can cover half of the cost (8 sp) if needed. ” Mazer replies after seeing the villagers standing firm on the rental price.

When not in earshot of townspeople, “anyone recognize anyone from the hunt competition group? Were any of them caravan gaurds like us? If so, did anyone interact with them at all....wondering if will they cause trouble for us out in the wild? And i think we should take off as soon as we can to get a good head start on em...”

Sounds to me like everyone has at least 4 SP for the renting price - So @Falas, @Van, @Mazer and @Siril can each remove 4x SP from your COINS! You group now has 2x dog sleds with some wood to make a fire. The other 'group' came into town later and is slightly behind you at this point. Is there anything else you wish to do BEFORE departing? |

Does Siril pick up anything from the tracks?
Size, type, claws, weight, animal, human (booted?), etc?

Re: THE DEPARTURE
Can Van get answers as to how long it will take to get across the bay with the sleds? And also without the sleds (using them purely as firewood carriers)

Each sled can take 3 persons or 4 Bulk firewood. Is there an optimal person vs wood loadout? Can we still carry 1 bulk wood if we are passengers on the sleds? Has ther been any word of Zan? |

Re: THE DEPARTURE
Van suggests Falas and Van in one sled, Siril and Mazer in the other. That way each sled has a someone with tracking skills and one person with healing skills.

Siril shrugs since his tracking skills appear to be useless at the moment.JellyBrains wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 8:25 am Van suggests Falas and Van in one sled, Siril and Mazer in the other. That way each sled has a someone with tracking skills and one person with healing skills.

So to confirm: Sled #1: Falas and Van (driver to be determined) Sled #2: Siril and Mazer (driver to be determined) Both sleds have 4x bulk of firewood and are draw by a team of 5x Dogs each. While the sleds do not accelerate rapidly, the Dog Team ARE able to eventually get to a fast [dog] running speed!! QUERY #1: I need the 'marching order'... Who goes first? QUERY #2: You start your journey in exploration mode (Pathfinder Core Rulebook 479). Each PC needs to choose their exploration mode activity; Since at least TWO of you will need to handle the sled/dog team, each sleds needs one assigned "driver" (this is not in the list of Exploration activities, unfortunately, but it consists of making sure the dogs go exactly where you want them to go - so like driving a car... keep your hands on the wheel type of thing!). Players can use whatever exploration activities (that makes sense while being on a sled); INVESTIGATE (Survival) would be key to follow the tracks, while SEARCH (Perception) would be key to avoid hazards. Note that those designated as Drivers would have a -2 circumstance penalty in any Exploration Activity checks while busy handling the dog team...! (But the "drivers" can still choose an Exploration Activity!) Awaiting your choices! |

Re: THE DEPARTURE
Mazer speaks up.
“I'll drive my tall companion. I'm sure your eye for survival is better than mine. I'd also recommend that Falas and Van take the lead. They both seem to possess a discerning eye for detail. Unless one of you has a better idea.”
Mazer will keep his Exploration activity to Search.

Does it make sense to have Falas drive while tracking (investigate) and Van searches for dangers? If Siril is also tracking (investigating) we would get two bites at the apple.Team Falas/Van in front and Team Siril/Mazer following. |
Re: THE DEPARTURE

That is not specified in the rules - so I am assuming that it is too easy to require any skill check - like walking/running! |

Having been dogsledding IRL in March, I can assure you the dogs do most of the work and make most of the important decisions. |
