Scent...found this Pat: This extraordinary ability lets a creature detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell.

A creature with the scent ability can detect opponents by sense of smell, generally within 30 feet. If the opponent is upwind, the range is 60 feet. If it is downwind, the range is 15 feet. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at twice the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk or troglodyte stench, can be detected at three times these ranges.

The creature detects another creature’s presence but not its specific location. Noting the direction of the scent is a move action. If the creature moves within 5 feet (1 square) of the scent’s source, the creature can pinpoint the area that the source occupies, even if it cannot be seen.

A creature with the Survival skill and the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Survival check to find or follow a track. A creature with the scent ability can attempt to follow tracks using Survival untrained. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10. The DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry’s odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2. The ability otherwise follows the rules for the Survival skill in regards to tracking. Creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility.

Creatures with the scent ability can identify familiar odors just as humans do familiar sights.

Water, particularly running water, ruins a trail for air-breathing creatures. Water-breathing creatures that have the scent ability, however, can use it in the water easily.

False, powerful odors can easily mask other scents. The presence of such an odor completely spoils the ability to properly detect or identify creatures, and the base Survival DC to track becomes 20 rather than 10.

ROUND 5 CONTINUES

Ardrea points out This may be obvious but that last used a spell and went invisible. She cackles to extend the protective hex on Cyrius and casts another on Prost. The whip continues to grapple A4.

Worrel tries to discern the actual position of the spider before attacking. He swings at the area in front of him and connects with nothing.

Charging his mind blade with psychic energy, Cyrius again thrusts at Spider A4 and manages not to impale himself.

Blimy, that first spider disappeared too, says Prost as he tumbles into a flanking position on A4. With a clever and balanced reverse-stroke, he executes the spider [20 hp damage kills A4]. Prost looks for other spiders, then adds Fluffy find the hidden spiders. Fluffy does not seem to understand Prost's rushed and unfamiliar command.

Tex sees no enemy to attack with his axe...

Go ahead and post what Tex would do given that Prost crit-stealed him. I'll account for it next validation, so you'll effectively have some extra actions.

Spider A4 appeared dead but actually wasn't quite there yet. Unconscious, it quietly bleeds to death [3 more hp finish off A4].

No spiders can be seen. However, everyone notices drops of what appears to be spider blood on the floor at various locations (marked on the map with bloody "footprints").

The doppelganger remains unconscious.

Seeing Prost dispatch the spider in front of him, Tex would step to 2218 and try swinging at 2219. He'd swing again if he connects wit something. If he fails to connect, he'd swing at 2318.

If Tex hits nothing, on the next turn (this turn?) he'll move back to 2017 and retrieve and ready his bow.

Prost not knowing about attacking invisible spiders comments, does anybody have any kind of powder, like flour. Maybe if we throw some in the area, the flower or powder will stick to there bloodied wounds revealing their location. Prost begins looking for anything dusty, dirt or anything..

Ardrea will cackle (move action) to keep up the protective hex on her allies. She will take her standard action and direct her familiar 'Ahm Shere' to tell her where it senses the unseen foes using Speak with Master.

Familiar is a Greensting scorpion. Senses include Tremorsense 60ft.

She directs her familiar 'Ahm Shere' to tell her where it senses the unseen foes using Speak with Master. A scorpion crawls out of her robes onto the floor and chitters at her. Ardrea reports that the spiders are located at 2022 and 2420.

This is a great plan that would work better in person instead of play by post. I took the liberty of adjusting your actions to account for the new information.

Assuming Ardrea continues to want Ahm Shere to help, I'm going to have her report the scorpion's findings at the end of the round, too, so that your Round 7 actions can take advantage of it.

 

Based on Ardrea's advice, Worrel tries hitting into 2022. Both of his swings fail to hit anything.

Prost may not know about attacking invisible spiders, but he hears Ardrea and sees Cyrius' success, so he moves into position and stabs into 2420. He doesn't connect with anything.

Tex's swings from last turn hit nothing. This turn, guided by Ardrea, he moves and takes a swing into 2420. He hits nothing.

Fluffy follows Cyrius. Sniffing the air in front of him, he growls and bites into 2420. He misses.

Since Lola now has an idea where a spider is, she moves next to Worrel and swings into 2022. With an almost casual flair, she manages to wound a spider she couldn't see [7 hp damage to A1]

No one sees what the spiders do, but Ardrea reports that they have both climbed to the ceiling.

Assuming she doesn't detect a spider thats melee attackable (or would trigger AOO if she moves), Lola moves to 2217 picks up her crossbow, sheathing her shortsword. If something is still on reachable by shortsword (example enemy in 2022?) she would move <if needed> and swing instead.

Tex will step to 2218 and switch back to his bow. He'll hold his shot unless he sees something definite to shoot at for this turn.

Prost will move to retrieve his sling staff @ 1920 and load it.

and that is a miss if in fact the staff is loaded... :wtf:

Thinking about it ...even if sling staff is loaded, I still couldn't fire...too many actions, move, stow short sword, retrieve sling staff, and fire...not possible

Heeding Ardrea's pronouncement, Cyrius charges his mindblade with psychic energy and throws it at the ceiling. With grit and determination, and in spite of the spider being invisible, he manages to pull off a flawless shot. There is crunching sound and a spatter of goo as something large lands on the floor right in front of him [14 hp damage to A2 and Ahm Shere confirms there's a dead invisible spider on the floor at 2420 now]

Prost moves and retrieves his sling staff.

Tex steps back and switches to his bow.

Fluffy remains guarding Cyrius.

Lola moves and picks up her crossbow.

For both Lola and Prost, moving and picking up an item is two move actions, so they have no other actions left to sheath their melee weapons. Tex only took a 5 foot step, so he had two move actions available to sheath axe and ready bow.

 

ROUND 8 BEGINS

Ardrea reports that the last remaining spider has exited the room by scurrying along the ceiling and going out through the illusionary mirror. Ahm Shere pokes its head through the mirror enough to know that the spider is now heading west on the ceiling of the long corridor. Ardrea passes along its location in case anyone wants to chase it.

The doppelganger remains unconscious.

With Worrel on guard, Tex will take some time to search this room. Was this merely a holding pen for the spiders or something else?

I could use some restorative attention, Cyrius responds, materializing his mind blade as a rapier and looking about. We have our duplicitous friend here, who may be more forthcoming when he wakes up, he adds, indicating the doppelganger, and somebody should check out that room we passed through.

Lola sheaths her shortsword and readies her crossbow and says Please make sure the prisoner is secure, and the spider stays gone - and I will do a burst heal After waiting until knots checked, and when people grouped up, channels energy.

Thats the last burst heal, and I am nearly tapped out of spells - so we need to be careful. If someone has a wand of curing with charges maybe help out the still more wounded people?

Thanks Lola, Prost then finishes gathering his dropped sling staff, after receiving healing burst from Lola, and supplementing with a CMW potion from his Handy Haver Sack. Image
Prost then checks the area looking for hidden doors and generally just tring to help Tex seaching for any sign of where the spiders may of moved off to. Image

Pat, I think that leaves Prost at 6 hp dmg, and Prost just used one of two CMW potions, leaving him with one.

Prost comments, So it seems that anything this changeling has to say is a lie. I would suggest we make a hasty retreat from this place, since the spiders may be bringing others down on us, unless they bleed out. I got them both good. Prost sneers, and continues his search hoping to stumble into the corpse of the invisible spiders.

Worrel keeps watch.

Tex and Prost search the room. They figure out the location of one dead invisible spider (at 2420) in addition to two dead visible spiders (somewhere in the room, I forgot where exactly), but find no hidden doors or anything else of interest or value.

Cyrius suggests some healing, and also searching the room with the illusionary mirror.

Lola gathers everyone together and channels energy [11 hp healing to all PCs; 11 hp lethal and 11 hp nonlethal to the doppelganger].

The doppelganger wakes up and, finding itself still tied up, looks very unhappy.

Prost uses a potion [9 hp healing]

I didn't change the map but Ahm Shere reports that the invisible spider has scurried away out of range of the scorpion's senses, so ignore A1 on there
