Aftermath of the battle at the gates
Moderator: patransom
From the hoomauneeheether, "Just a sec ... let's see what the boss wants you to do." After a few moments, "Okay, Sarge, is the Jif still operational? Do you have enough ammo for the haynoon? In any case, your orders are to stay there in case the rest of them show up. We're going to send reinforcements to replace the guys you lost and extra ammo, if you need it."
From Sam Tinker to Shareev, "The only thing I'm hearing on their wave is you guys. You aren't fooling them, though, I'm sure of that. I hope you know what you're doing. I hear they blew a big hole in the fence the last time. Have you figured out how to use the big kuhn against them if you have to fight them again?"
It is a few minutes after these communications that Shareev notices movement on the tracking device. About half of the flashing lights depart from the home base, heading in your direction. At their current speed, it will be just under two hours before they get to Nauthun.

"Okay guys, lets give them a chase. Ten to one says they have this Jif bugged as well. I should be able to drive it. Thanis, do you think you can figure out the big Khun?"
OOC: How many people will fit on it? I don't think all of us will.
Shareev will try to figure out the jif's controls in order to drive it. (Drive +9)

Four of you will fit on the jif. If it were a normal jif, you might be able to squeeze one more on, but the big kuhn takes up too much space on this one. You are quite confident you can drive it. And you're competent enough that you should be able to do nifty manuevers, too.klakxor wrote:OOC: How many people will fit on it? I don't think all of us will.

"I think they will be after us first and foremost. Nauthan is in more danger if we stay here. However, since not all of us can fit on here and I know you cant run as fast as I can go, some of you will need to stay here. Possible protect the town if need be."
Shareev thinks for a moment. "Obviously I am going on the Jif. I think you should join me as well Thanis, since you have more practice with khuns and would be the most likely to figure out the haynoon. That leaves two open seats. Who else is up for a ride?"

Aeless away from the jif(20 ft) looking at the horizon turns and signals for the rest to gather.
"They know, we took out their boys and they barely have a notion as to how many are left from us. I suggest to ditch the jif and make it look like it exploded and have the dead bodies scattered near the jif. Grab the big kuhn and make the emplacement of it ripped or torn asunder. We lay ambush at an area near the jif."

Thanis takes look at the big kuhn. It doesn't operate like any kuhn he's ever seen before. It appears to have some sort of console on it with odd symbols, buttons and levers.tdsprouse wrote:I take a look at the Haynoon, figure it out?
Thanis has no ranks in Knowledge: Advanced Technology. The best he will be able to do is experiment with it and hope he doesn't blow himself or anyone else up ... Shareev might be able to figure out how it operates with a few minutes examination, then instruct someone on its operation.
If you work out how it operates, anyone, including Shareev, using it will be at a non-proficiency penalty: it is an advanced, exotic firearm, requiring two full feats to be proficient. However, because it creates a big explosion, the non-proficiency penalty isn't a huge deal, given that you're just aiming at a square
Also, since it is advanced technology, there's a chance of a critical failure when operating it. If Shareev were operating it, he might be able to minimize that chance.
I think trying another ambush, in open terrain, is a recipe for disaster with their weapons. Some of us have to close to melee range to fight, and will be cut to pieces before we get there. I see no choice but to lure them into the town and fight in the streets. Use the buildings for cover and try to lure them into a trap where we can fire the large weapon at them in close range without risking our people. The close quarters of the town allow us to change are tactics when the inevitable happens and it all goes wrong.
Do we have any town folk willing to help? Maybe shooting at the Dudes from the rooftops.
Do we have a map of the town?

That was going to be my next move........patransom wrote:Shareev might be able to figure out how it operates with a few minutes examination, then instruct someone on its operation.
Knowledge: Advanced Tech (5 ranks)
Feat - Tech Familiarity: Advanced (+4 comp bonus when analyzing advanced tech devices)
Shareev: Will you be using your "disaster avoidance" class feature (this is the first piece of tech you've examined that could have something very bad happen in the unlikely event you roll a 1)?
Brand: you don't have a map of the town, but Thanis is very familiar with the layout and you all have the basic idea: There's one big main street and smaller alley sized streets branching off in a very regular "city block" pattern.

Okay, Shareev has figured out the basics of aiming and firing the weapon and can instruct anyone else. Unfortunately, he was unable to figure out how much ammunition is left or how to unload/reload the weapon. On the other hand, there were no explosions or accidental discharges as Shareev experimented with the thing.

Jiam speaks up. "I think our best chance in fighting is in the town as well. We stand a better chance of using the buildings as cover and recruiting some town folk to help. We have little time though to draw up a plan.
I think if we keep the wagon at the entrance, wave at them like we are trying to be friendly, and then take one shot at them before backing into the town to a fall back position, we can at least try to take out some of them first."

"Hey where did the thief go? He was standing right where that pile of goo is just a second ago... Uh Oh... There wasn't a pile of goo there a second ago. Dang it! We go through thieves like peasants through a dragon."
Time passes as Shareev examines the big kuhn and all of you consider your options and strategy. Checking the tracking device again, Shareev now estimates the flashing lights are now an hour and half away.
At this point, you spot a lone figure walking toward Nauthun from the north. As the figure approaches, you recognize it: it's Oldin, apparently done with whatever he was up to outside Sanctuary and returning to Nauthun to collect Amon.

Oldin is carrying a small pouch above his head, but seeing his previous travel companions, he lowers it. As he approaches, he says, "Before I abscond with Amon, I have an idea that may help you with the dudes." Oldin produces his sketch of Sarge. "I can make one of you look just like this. The effect would be temporary, lasting no more than a couple of hours, but it may prove useful in infiltrating the enemy's camp. Now, the effect would only be visual, and any other form of senses would detect the affected individual as they really are. Still, if Sarge were to drive a group of you to the dude base, tied up with whatever Sam can arrange, perhaps the ruse would allow you to enter the base. I would even be willing to join in the ruse if I could be escorted to the dude's place of worship, I could desecrate it with Seker's holy fires. But, only if you have need of my assistance. I would not want to intrude.
"If you would prefer, I will collect Amon and be on my way."

Oldin smiles, "You misunderstand. You would look exactly like Sarge. Right down to his clothing. You would appear to be the same size and shape. All visual appearances would be identical to Sarge. You could strip naked and after I am finished, you would appear as Sarge, fully dressed in his apparel. Now, the effect is purely illusory. If they attempted to touch Sarge, they would be feeling you. Their hand might go through a portion of you that looks like it should be Sarge. You would have to stay at a distance. Perhaps suggest that you believe your prisoners (the rest of us) have infected you with something and the other dudes should keep their distance?"

To Sam:
"Looks to be about half their jifs. I didn't think the townsfolk would be into fighting. Thanks anyway. I would suggest getting everyone inside anyway."
Turning back to the group,
"I don't think Sam or the townspeople are going to be able to help us much. Oldin's plan seems do-able, but it seems like it would almost be a sacrifice to anyone who decides to play Sarge."

"Listening on the amount of things we'll encounter, I think the altar is of low priority till we survive this ordeal coming to this town and I doubt they'll like what we'll happen soon enough." says Aeless as he rub his finger on the furrows of his brow.
"How long till they get here from your clairaudience? Shareev, think you can identify their commander for us?" asks the half-elf.
