Introduction

Created by user marc4darkskies, the TOS 3.5e Dice Roller (referred to as TDR+) is an Excel macro driven workbook developed for TOS+.

Primary Goals of TDR

The main goals of TDR are to:

  • Enable hassle free digital dice rolling for more streamlined dynamic play. The need to find, roll and add up physical dice for attack, damage, ability, skills and save rolls (among others) is eliminated. Damaging spells and other rolled spell effects can also be defined or selected from a TOS+ sheet so that they can be automatically rolled.
  • Free DMs from using manual notes during an encounter Creature / character initiatives, combat order and damage received can be tracked and combat attacks for up to 150 creatures’ or other ad-hoc effects can be automatically be rolled.

For Players

Who use TOS+ sheets dynamically, TDR will interface and automatically extract combat statistics from up to 5 TOS+ sheets.

For DMs

Creatures and combat effects for an encounter can be defined and/or selected from the built in SRD creature database (about 700 creatures) for automated dice rolls and tracking. Creatures can be created, edited, or deleted and utilised for combat dice rolls and their full stat blocks including images and web links are viewable.

DMs can also easily select and save one or more creature images (without stat block info) to a suitable network location for player characters to view.

Compatibility

TDR has been tested on Office 365 for TOS+ versions 5.137 and later using 3.5 and Pathfinder rules. PF testing has been somewhat limited, but it seems to be working fine. So please, PF players, report any problems discovered!

Please note, TDR will probably NOT work properly with Excel versions other than Office 365.

TDR Summary

1. Uses highly random functions to roll dice as opposed to the very non-random VBA functions. See the section at the end of the user manual for a brief analysis

2. Will issue reassuring sounds when buttons are pressed to indicate processing has completed. I even created my own real-life dice-rolling-on-wooden-table sounds!!

3. Can load up to 5 TOS+ characters (.xlsb files)

4. Can operate without needing to load TOS+ characters to roll ad-hoc characters or effects

5. Can select from 3 predefined default “Combat” sheet layouts – “TOS Only”, “Ad-Hoc Only” and “TOS and Ad-Hoc”

6. When using TOS+ sheets, combat parameters are derived from loaded TOS+ workbooks to enable dice rolls for Attack, Damage, Init and Saves, Ability, Action Points and Skills

7. When NOT using loaded TOS+ sheets, combat parameters are derived from the characters and effects defined in the “Ad-Hoc” sheet

8. Allows definition of up to 150 Creatures, NPCs, spells & effects via an “Ad-Hoc” character table. TOS+ character sheets are NOT required for ad-hoc attack and damage rolls

9. Will keep the last 40 “Combat” sheet rolls in a "History" table with detailed descriptions

10. In a separate “Dice” sheet, will display 1,120 dice rolls plus the sum of those rolls within 8 “Effect” panels containing 20 rolls for each of 7 dice. The “Effect” panels enable 8 distinct (non-repeating) dice rolls for damage effects per player character weapon as well as 8 ad-hoc and characters/effects – ie nearly zero risk of duplicate rolls being seen

11. Rolls and/or tracks initiative, initiative order and damage inflicted for all Ad-hoc characters / creatures. Manual initiative entry is allowed

12. Contains statistics for about 700 (mostly SRD) Creatures which can be added to an ad-hoc character table and used for combat dice rolls

13. Can filter and select creatures from the built-in TDR creature database (approx. 700 mostly SRD creatures) to enable Attack, Damage, Initiative and Save rolls

14. Can export Ad-Hoc creature images (without statistics) to a designated location to allow viewing by players

15. Can create, modify and delete creatures within the built-in TDR creature database
