“Hold on Brad. Didn't any of you guys hear that?” Sahid kneels down next to where the slab was standing and brushes away some dust.
“I heard a click like a pressure plate releasing when we toppled the slab.”

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Before Brad gets past the statues, Marcus stops him. “Haven't you ever seen the Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider movies with the dart shooting or flame spitting statues and slits?” Marcus then gives a careful evaluation of the two statues. Search/Arcane Lore for traps or symbols (1d20+6=15, 1d20+9=11)
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Brad Stops immediately on Sahid's warning.
“I didnt hear anything. did it come from under the slab, or did we release something that was underneath it when it was upright?”

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
“I always thought those movies were unrealistic in that regard,” Eric remarks. “We're supposed to believe that some trap mechanism is still functional after centuries of neglect, or a poison hasn't evaporated or degraded to an inert state in all that time? I'd worry more about structural damage.” Nevertheless, he remains where he is, looking down the passageway lined with alcoves.

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Once Sahid brushes away the dust, it is obvious that there was a pressure plate underneath the slab. Toppling the slab off of it has caused the device to trigger, although this doesn't seem to have had any obvious effect. Maybe Eric is right...
Since the trigger doesn't seem to have done anything dangerous, Marcus and Brad proceed down the hall as planned. Examining the statues, Marcus finds that they are similar to the figure on the sarcophagus upstairs, although not identical. Each is a seven foot tall, nearly hairless humanoid of indeterminate sex, although each is meant to represent a different individual. Each has cupped hands held in front of it, as if presenting an offering. Soft currents of air emanate from each set of cupped hands. These magical currents appear to be the source of the strange breeze in the hallway.

Marus will continue down the hall cautiously scanning about. Search/Arcane Lore, traps and symbols. (1d20+6=10, 1d20+9=14) I', thinking he notices nothing more than before. He presses on taking pictures as he goes.
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
As Marcus and Brad proceed down the corridor, Eric will advance to 0706 and examine the hands of the adjacent statue in an effort to identify an obvious source (such as small vents in the palms) of the breeze coming from them.

Brad will walk to the end of the corridor, watching his steps [search (1d20+2=17)].
He'll peer around each corner when he gets there.

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Sahid follows the others down the hall, cautiously watching everyones actions.
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
The team moves down the hall. Eric stops to examine the first statue's hands. His inspection reveals no holes or vents. The breeze seems to emerge by magic!
Marcus doesn't notice anything new as he moves down the hallway, so contents himself with taking pictures.
Brad reaches the next set of alcoves and peers in. Seeing nothing unexpected, he steps forward to continue down the hall.
Suddenly, there is a hissing sound from behind you! Turning back, you see that the small elevator room is rapidly filling with a noxious green gas. The gas fills the chamber, but, fortunately, does not come rolling down the hall toward you. It seems to be venting up the elevator shaft instead.
When Brad turns back to look at the gas trap, he is suddenly hit by a ray of bluish energy from above and behind the statue to the north! Instantly, he feels very tired. He can barely keep his eyes open.
Brad and Marcus see the source of this ray: a tiny, hideous creature (marked with the small red "s" on the map) is floating in mid-air above and behind the statue. The creature (if you can even call it that) looks like 3-foot-long strand of striated muscle connected to two floating eyeballs. It stretches and twists as it floats through the air, but it makes no noise.

Combat time! I need a Will save from Brad (DC11) to avoid falling asleep. He's not actually up in initiative before the next validation, but whether he's asleep or not will probably affect everyone's actions. Initiative Order: ROUND 1 Sahid Khan Eric Lightner Lurking Strangler Tividius Alexander --> quick validation Marcus Tilsworth Brad Laskin (if he's still awake) ROUND 2 Sahid Khan Eric Lightner Lurking Strangler Tividius Alexander --> quick validation |

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
“What the crap!!! I knew this was a horror movie in the making.” Sahid will pull out his handgun but hold to his current position.
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Being out of position to attack (or even see) the floating nasty, Eric will draw his pistol and keep an eye on the noxious green cloud. It might start drifting down the passageway... or something could come out of it.

Brad needs a will save (DC11) to avoid falling asleep. I can roll for him if IC isn't working or something... Also just realized I forgot Dr. Alexander in the initiative order. Will fix in a second... |

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
ROUND 1
Sahid and Eric draw their weapons, but don't have a target to shoot at.
The eyeball creature shoots off another ray at Brad. This one is black and comes from the other eye. But it misses its mark, so Brad doesn't have to find out what it does...
Dr. Alexander draws his pistol and moves down the hallway. “It's obviously not friendly...” he says. In keeping with this assessment, he shoots the creature, causing a spurt of green ooze from one of its connecting muscles. One bullet, however, is apparently not enough.

Having camera in hand, Marcus takes several pictures in succession of the floating eyes. He then draws his gun, checking that it's loaded. The flash of the camera going off each time.

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Dodging the black ray, Brad raises his glock and squeezes off a shot. One shot (1d20+4=18, 2d6=10) (+1 more to Attack and Damage due to Point Blank Shot).
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
With an idea where the foe is, Eric moves to 0710 and squeezes off a round at the floating nasty.
His marksmanship is passable with 1d20+5 = 15.
If that hits, he does a base 2d6 = 3 damage. (Must have just grazed it. )

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
As he takes his pictures, Marcus recognizes it as a Lurking Strangler, an evil, aberrant creature of Shadow. He knows the following about Lurking Stranglers: their eyes can shoot two kinds of rays, one that causes sleep and another that causes fear. The creatures use these rays to incapacitate their victims, then wrap themselves around the helpless person's neck and throttle them.
That isn't going to happen here, however, as Brad's pistol shot blasts through one of the Strangler's eyes. It ceases floating in midair and falls to the ground behind the statue.

Assuming the creature is dead, Marcus will actually go to get it if he can and wrap it in cloth he'll tear from his shirt and put it in his pack. an excited tone: “Having a real example! I wish I had a jar and brine preservative.”
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
“well, that's a little disturbing...” Brad says with a grin.
with that he'll continue to 0814 and peer around the corners, each way.

Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Sahid will move forward to 0811.
SpoilerShow
Why do I think that is not the worst that is down here
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Tividius will also turn to track the gas cloud, ready to bolt forward if it is moving at a noticeable rate. If it doesn't appear to be moving too fast he will swing around the column he is standing next to--looking for any more signs of danger as he does so (looking up for any lurkers and down for any obvious trip wires.) “Is everybody ok?” If the cloud is moving he will move forward fast...

Howdy all--I am stepping in to play the good doctor. Welcome to my nightmare. I am looking forward to being part of yours... cave_lion (aka Gordon) pat--what is the IC game name you are using? My Spot check is +3 if you need a roll--you can do it to expedite if you want and it is needed. |
Re: [Active Thread] Beneath the Yellow Lantern
Marcus picks up the icky, gooey remains of the Lurking Strangler while Eric and Dr. Alexander watch the gas cloud. The cloud appears to be dissipating somewhat, venting up the elevator shaft, so the doctor follows Sahid and Brad down the hall. Brad shines his light both directions around the corner. He finds that both branches of the hallway turn west again about 15 feet after the T intersection.
